Many..but depends on luck mostely...well atleast 2 hours^^
im guessing about somehtin like this

Based on LUCK^^

Pokeballs : 70
Greatballs: 40
UltraBalls : 20
Master Ball : 1
Dive Ball : 45
Net Ball : 60

Zapdos dang near killed me, until a certain Aerodactyl saved me...

Took me fifteen Ultraballs. End of story.

Really though, it all depends, and you shouldn't base your success on other people's answers.

It took me like 5 tries and like 10 ultra balls on the last try. Now I have 2 mewtwos, 2 articuno, 2 Zapdos, and only one more Moltres to have two of those.

Possibly having both FR/LG.

Like other people said, luck. There's no definite number of Pokeballs it'll take to catch it. But I suggest you save that Master ball for Mewtwo.

Mewtwo was actually VERY easy to catch, took me like 5 or 6 ultra balls, then I used the MB on Raikou cause those things are a frickin' pain.

And Nightdawn, you must be REALLY bad (no offense) at catching legendaries if it took you 20 ultra balls to catch a bird... I went in there with like 9 ultras and 8 greats and caught it. And for articuno I caught it with a great ball! ^^

Mewtwo was so easy. Zapdos is just by chance unless you gave him a status condition and low HP. It took me only 2 PokeBalls but remember the nature counts too.
