When you catch all 200/202 Pokémon for the Hoenn Pokédex, visit Birch's lab to recieve a Johto starter, and see the Hoenn 'Dex certificate from GAME FREAK at Lilycove, and similarly with GAME FREAK when you have 382/386.

Tips: Trade with people, get Colosseum, and a copy of FR/LG.

My steps usually follow:

1. Play through the game normally. Don't worry about completing the Dex till after the Elite 4.

2. Go out and catch every single Pokemon that can be caught by normal capturing methods. This includes Legendaries if you choose so.

3. Scan your PC. Select any Pokemon that are close to their evolution stage and train them first.

4. Take this time to gather up any loose ends, such as Pokemon gotten in trades, Pokemon gotten by speaking with People, Pokemon from other versions, Pokemon that evolve through items, etc.

5. Find any remaining Pokemon. Chances are, these will be the toughest to level and evolve. Use the Elite 4 as the fastest means for EXP. and keep at it. Use EXP. Share, it really helps.

6. By now, you should have most of the Dex finished. All that remains will be Pokemon you neglected to look at or special event Pokemon.

Heh, my personal goal was to find every pokemon possible "As soon as you could"... I only have Saphire, Emerald and DX.

The only thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of people who beleive you need to beat the E4 to get the 3 Reg*s where you really don't.

I'm wondering though without trading how many pokemon can you really find in each game...

V-Faction gave the best advice. Also, save your rare candies up. It helps. And perhaps trading your pokemon with someone else and then having them trade it back to you would too. Remember, traded pokemon learn faster.
