A sudden, solid mass slammed into Brenna, knocking her into the dew-stained grass left behind by the cruel, cold, early hours of dawn. The Dusclops winced in pain, but refused to let her terror show as a scraggly Vigoroth leered down at her, his clawed forepaws digging suggestively into her stomach.
Why is this hobo so sure he can get what he want from me? she thought sourly. Taking a deep breath, she focused, releasing ... a deep breath. She cursed mentally; stupid Erasing! Ominous Wind had always been her signature move; without it she felt as helpless as a Magikarp. What sort of idiot would be stupid enough to bring wild Pokemon back to the level of jungle animals? She spat out a word that made the Vigoroth flinch in shock, though he continued to dig into her body eagerly, which she found unsurpassingly nauseating. A deep, ravening anger welled up inside of her. Oh, yes, claws and teeth are the true meaning of superiority when it comes down to it! Not.
The anger transformed into pure terror at the speed of light: the Vigoroth was beginning to tear at her already tattered wrappings.
A brief flashback swept across her vision; the Skuntank again, pinning her to the ground and leering before her attack sent him soaring into the sky. That had occured just after she had evolved, she remembered. More out of uncertainty than anything else, she closed her single eye, hoping against hope that a miracle might occur.
And occur it did. For a moment she sensed a bright, pulsating wave of energy gather swiftly into her clenched fist, screaming to be released. Without thinking, she did so. The balled white hand slammed deep into the Vigoroth's chest, sending him flying about a hundred feet before his head smashed into a nearby tree. The impact had such force that his brain exploded, dying the wood of the tree a deep red forevermore.
But Brenna did not notice this last gruesome detail, as she had already turned and begun to walk away. In what direction, she did not particularly care. Focus Punch, she mused, examining the hand she had used to deliver the attack. The hand was clean and unscarred, almost in mockery of its jealous twin. I ... I relearned it. But how is this possible? Only caught Pokemon know moves anymore ... unless something has changed?
She continued her pondering as she walked waywardly into an open glade where no trees grew. Not knowing that someone was close by ...
