Pokemon Battle Styles.

Lately I have been thinking about more using Pokémon moves to create battle themes or styles that a trainer could use. These styles will not be based on the video game meta game. Here are a few of the styles that I have come up with.

Empowering style. This style focus on moves that strengthen yourself. The longer the fight lasts the stronger your Pokémon are. Trainers usually use this style when they want there Pokémon to fight against multiple Pokémon in a row.
Example moves. Power up punch, Steel Wing, Dragon Dance, Flame Charge, and Drain Punch.

Weakening Style. This style uses moves that weaken the foe’s stats and damage them. The long the fight lasts the weaker the enemy is. This style helps weaken far stronger Pokémon and could allow another Pokémon to win the battle.
Example moves. Icy wind, Rock Smash, Bulldoze, and Acid Spray.

Pummeling Style. This style since overwhelm the opponent with high power moves that hit hard. The opponent usually can only talk two or three hits before they fall. However, it should be noted that many of the moves have low accuracy and that many other trainers teach their Pokémon some this style to use as finishing moves.
Example Moves – Hyper Beam, Gigi Impact, Focus Punch, Overheat, and Zap Cannon.

So what does everyone think about this. Should I post some more styles? I have some ideas for tyles that a ninja, witch, or wizard would use.

Well it's time to post my ninja & witch style.

The ninja style of Pokemon battling is not one that realize on strength. Instead you will try to go out maneuver your enemy and fight him with attacks that are fast, accurate, or disabling.
Example moves: Quick attack, Water Shuriken, Double Team, Swift, and any move that poisons the important.

The wizard style uses many moves that use the special attack stat, but the attacks are for a lack of better word unusual and quite impressive. The oppent will have quite the hard time trying fight back against such moves.
Example moves: Future Sight, Psywave, Telekinesis, Trick Room, Fire Blast, Fire Spin, Rain Dance, Water Pledge, Electric Terrain.

The Witch Style uses many moves that use the speacal attack like the wizard style, but it also heavily uses disabling moves or curses to subdue the oppent.
Example moves: Toxic, Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp, Confuse Ray, Destiny Bond, Nightmare, Torment, Hex, Dark Pulse.

Hope you like these. Maybe next time I will post a two pokemon move set from divert styles.

Middle of nowhere
I know this isn't quite what you had in mind, but for The Alola Pokedex I use a mix of metagame, fighting game and observations to figure out the global metagame.

Obviously, very powerful and armored Pokemon like metagross and tyranitar have a big role because they can hit hard and take hard hits. If you're going for knockouts, they are the core of the metagame.

Birds play a role in blocking some melee attackers in the above category, like Aggron, because they can just stay out of range and occasionally attack with projectiles or dive bombs.

Projectile attackers with some bulk counter birds because they can take hits and knock their opponent out of the sky.

A handful of walls can form a stall-ish team by simply being able to tank hits far better than the opponent can dish them out. Pure stall is rare because there aren't many Pokemon that can take on the sheer range and power of existing threats, but bulky offense or defensive pivots aren't.

Wallbreakers or fast technical Pokemon exist to break stall. The former are very slow juggernauts that might not be a good match against a metagross but do just fine beating up a chansey who can't really fight back or flee. Fast technical Pokemon like gengar exist to taunt/toxic the opponent and just generally be a nightmare to slow Pokemon and walls.

Set up sweepers exist. They're usually fast or speed boosting Pokemon that take an opportunity late game to clean up everything that remains on the opponents team. They can get stronger and faster than the pure offense Pokemon that dominate the metagame, but it takes them time to setup so they need a good matchup to come in on.

And then there's arena control. Weather, entry hazards, screens, some terraforming moves used properly can all slowly shift the battlefield itself into a tool either for the arena modifying Pokemon or their allies. Unfortunately, arena control gets wrecked by most fast technical Pokemon.

There are a few oddities that don't play into any of those categories, but those are rare enough that none readily come to mind. In the Alola Dex most top tier battles (full team of six) take thirty to sixty minutes to complete because most animal fights in the wild are rather quick affairs and the offensive powers slightly outclass the defensive ones.

Two hyper offensive teams going at it can end in less than fifteen minutes. Two stall teams can sometimes take up to two hours since both sides are bulky and neither are particularly strong.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sure many people could use this kind of information you posted. Please feel free to post anything else you think is helpful.

Double Posting
Well here is an example of a pokemon with two different battling styles and a description of their moves. Keep in mind that these are for anime like fanfiction and not the actual meta game so they most likely will not be useful in an actually match.

Alakazam with the Pummeling Style. In this style the Alakazam will simply try to blast the target with powerful ranged attacks.
Psychic- A straight forward attack with telekinetic blast.
Reflect- a pure defense move that allows the pokemon to protect it form physical hits.
Signal Beam, Energy Ball, Focus Blast - More stight forward attacks that are used to add coverage.
Psyshock- A move that can be used aggsint foes with a high special defense

Alakazam with the Wizard Style. This style the Alakazam will attacks in ways that are hard to doge or predicted.
Future Sight - A powerful delayed attack that can come out of nowhere and strike the opponent by surprise.
Psywave - In the anime this attack was made up of a wavey beam of energy. The opponent will have a hard time figuring out where it will strike so it will be hard to doge.
Teleport - In anime and fanfiction this is a great wave to doge attacks and get in to position for your next attack.
Miracle Eye - For dealing with those annoying Dark Types.
