Hey, I'm trying to catch Moltres right now, this is my second time around and this time I'm using a Falseswiping Altaria, and I was wondering what status conditiions were best for catching pokemon? It doesnt matter if it's something Altaria can't learn, I also wanted to know this for general use. If anyone could help that would be great.

Good conditions to put onto a Pokemon to catch it easier are Sleep and Paralysis. Burn and Poison are ok, but they could weaken the Pokemon into its death. Try getting a Pokemon that can put it to Sleep, and it should be able to be caught a bit easier.

And, this is more of a FRLG question, seeing how Moltres is caught in FRLG. :p

Use a move that will OHKO Moltres. Restart and repeat this until it uses Endure. (That's how I caught mine). ;)

Edit: He's already at 1hp because of false swipe and I'm using sleep, I was just wondering if there was anything better than that.

Ok and here's another question: at what time are Timer Balls worth using?

It should be fairly easy to catch if it's on 1HP and asleep. Just use Ultra Balls.

Well, if you're getting Moltres down to 1 HP and putting it to Sleep, then Timer Balls aren't worth it. I don't know 100% for sure about Timer Balls, but I think it's like, after 10 turns or so, the rate for catching is increased. But for your case, since Moltres is about as far down as possible, Timer Balls are almost useless. :p Just keep on with the Ultra Balls and...good luck. ;)

Personally I prefer paralyze than sleep. Sleep Pokemon can awake, but paralyzed Pokemon will not cured until the battle end. Also, almost all Paralyzing moves have 100 accuracy, and Sleeping moves often miss..
Oh yes, timer ball's catching rate increases by 1 every 10 turns.

But when a pokemon is asleep/frozen,its catch rate is higher than a paralyzed/poisoned/burned pokemon.

Stat reduction also makes a poke easier to catch. Single moves that lower two different stats (like Tickle) are best. Sleep raises the catch rate more than Paralysis does. Unfortunately, two out of the three Spore/False Swipers are 2x weak to Moltres's Fire moves, and 4x weak to its Flying moves. (does it have any?) Either way, when I was catching the birdies, it helped a lot when I Featherdanced and Screeched the things.

The Timer Ball is always useful, regardless of the foe's condition, provided enough turns have passed. This is because it multiplies the odds of catching it.

Poison and Burn work great until a point. That point is when you are on the verge of catching them, they are in red health, and the status condition knocks them out. You want that in a battle, not in a capture. So in my opinion the best status condition is Paralysis, for it lasts the entire battle, unlike Sleep and Freeze. Granted it can still attack, but everything great has to have a downside.

I just weaken them down to red HP and throw ultra balls like made. The only thing Timer Balls are worth using in in my opinion are against the Regis. Those battle take forever. I caught all of them with Timer Balls.

timer balls have a 1x catch rate, same as a pokeball. every ten turns the battle has lasted they will increase their catch rate by .5
so at 20 turns itll be as good as an ultra ball
i found nest balls to be of great effect( ithink thos are the ones)
they hav increased catching ability if the poke ur battling is half the level ur poke is

Hmm, I think I'll use the nest ball idea for catching Articuno (my last bird) because my false swipper is now 100.

No, no, and NO! Articuno is Level 50, and provided this link is true:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Poké_Ball

...then since Articuno's Level 50(21 levels above the maximum level that a Nest Ball can possibly catch a Pokemon at the same rate as an Ultra Ball, and that max level is 29), the Nest Ball will have the same Catch Rate as a regular Poke Ball... If you don't know all about catch rates, then try this link:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Catch_rate

...for the answer to your question... and have a good time trying to catch Articuno!

However, since this is a little late, if you caught him already, then you might be just lucky that he didn't break free... if you haven't yet, then know that for when you try yet again to catch Articuno, and make sure you have the best chance of success...

I usually always use paralysis. Never, ever, ever burn or poison. Sleep is the best to use, though.

IMO, Moltres wasn't that hard to catch. None of the birds really were. Or at least, not in comparision to Rayquaza or Mewtwo.

I pinch.
After 20 turns, timer balls become better than ultra balls and reach their maximum effectiveness after 30, I'm pretty sure. I generally use ultra balls until 20 turns have passed, and then switch to timers; suicune is always easier to catch 'cause I can start out using net balls, yay. For status conditions, sleep is probably the best (freezing is too unpredictable), but paralysis will do if you don't have anything else, and it doesn't wear off like sleep does. After that, it's entirely luck. I usually find something else to do at the same time, 'cause it's boring.

Articuno is definetly 50...

Couldn't find any nest balls in FR/LG anyways and theres no way I'm trading stuff like that. I went on and caught Mewtwo with 6 Ultraballs :p by falseswipping to 1hp, Tail Wag and Growling it down to bottom Attack and Defense, then singing. Thanks alot for those bulbapedia pages, if they are right about the formula I can start calculating my chances. Yay! :D
