Pokemon contests

I'm curious, are there supposed to be lots of different places that hold contests or something?

Because, I've noticed at one of the contests that May attends, they mentioned that the contest was held once a year, and since you need 5 ribbons to enter the Grand Festival, and May won 5 out of the 7 she attended...

Are there like 23478234 contests held in the Hoenn Region once a year or something? If a contest is only held once a year, seems kinda hard to get 5..

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
When you get to the Grand Festival episodes, they say somewhere around 100 or so coordinators got 5 ribbons to enter.

That means there must be a gazillion Contests running throughout Hoenn. Don't bother doing the math, it's impossible if this were real life.

Thank you, SPPf! :)
It'd be a complete waste to build an entire contest hall that were to be used only one day every year. Unless each city has a whole lot of cash that they don't know what the hell to do with.

That's true, but I'm not making this up. They specifically mentioned that the contest was only held once a year :(

Lol. I worked the same thing out the other day.

There are about 160 or something competitors that enter the Hoenn Grand Festival. Each of them has won at least 5 contests...

Let's see:

160
x 5
_____
8000
_____ <=== Ignore my lame maths skills.

_______
365|8000 = 21.9048532932 <==== Ignore more lame maths >.>

Anyway, you get the gist. There are virtually 21 contests in Hoenn in a day. Probably more, because trainers (Like Drew) may have won more than 5 contests, and then there's the contests won by those who never got into the grand festival.... bringing the grand total of the number of contests held in a day up about 30.... Unless my maths is wrong of course xD.

Yes, people who actually win 1 or 2 contests by luck don't move on to the Grand Festival. And there are 273 or something, I just watched the Grand Festival, so the number is even higher than that..

I like pie.
i'm guessing most towns have contest halls and contests but ash and co. didn't pass by when they had the contest. anyhoo, this is part of a TV show. they don't quite get all the little details down just right.

Well, it's not like the anime is limited to 8 gyms per region, as evidenced by a number of things. If it were, then those gym leaders must suck hard, losing to probably over 100 trainers apiece each year.

Most of which are 10 year olds too.

Makes you wonder if some Gym leaders purposely handicap themselves and use weaker Pokemon so the 10 year olds have a chance to win. Makes you wonder why Roxanne had a Geodude instead of a Golem, or Bugsy battled with a Metapod when professional's like them should be using evolved Pokemon.

It also goes against the people desperately trying to claim how strong Misty is just because she's a Gym leader. She probably gets beaten by challengers a dime a dozen.

In this episode, they meet Lillian in Kanto. She claims that she is the MC of the contests in Kanto, while Vivian is the MC of the contests in Hoenn.

Vivian can't be everywhere at once............. 1 contest a day!?

Also, another thing: Pokemon moves always look so much more awesome in battle?

I mean, check out Cacnea's Pin Missile in ep 421. We've seen Pin Missile countless times before, and now it suddenly looks ridiculously cool.

What's up anyway. The animation and artwork in ep 421 really kicked it up several notches.

Well yes, there are more than 8 gyms per region, that makes sense. I'm sure it's not uncommon for a Gym Leader to have 1 or 2 battles per day.

Contests are a different matter, in order for that many people to gain 5 badges to gain entry into the Grand Festival, there would literally need to be thousands of contests held per year in one region. Not only that, but since each contest is apparently only held once a year, and Vivian and the judges appear to be present at every single contest..the mind boggles.

She can, and apparently Sukizo and Contesta traverse Kanto and Hoenn (and it looks like Shinou, and maybe Johto too?) in time.

My guess is Sukizo and Contesta have magical teleporting powers. Either that or there's a million of them, like Joy and Jenny.
