Oohhhh~ D< The first thing I notice: You save in JPEG.

Please, PLEASE don't save in JPEG. It ruins the quality of the image, and it makes it near impossible to edit again!

I think the maps really need some changing. They have way too much open space, and all of the buildings, grass, and trees are either all lined up, or in a bunch. Scatter them a bit, and maybe add some paths along their direction, too. It makes it look less-empty.

I also just noticed that your Cut trees aren't aligned properly. Make sure you align them correctly, otherwise it looks really rough. And I don't think that many Cut trees are necessary, either. ^^;;

Try that for starters. :3 I hope I've helped in some way.

Um. Okay, where do I begin?

First: The maps are saved in JPG. Don't save in JPG. Always, always, ALWAYS save in PNG.

Second: There's no order to the maps. Everything is just randomly placed.

Third: There's too much open space, especially in the first map. Might want to fix that.

Look at the official maps and you'll see what I mean, especially official maps.

The map looks alot better. Also, I just did the grass starter line, is it ok?

Left=normal
Right=shiny
The first one is leafug, (grass),then grassug, (grass,bug),then,Trensect.(also grass,bug)
Its actually my first scratch, and i think its pretty decent.

Edit: did some NPC's:

This is what I think the sprites should be but its up to you.
From left to right:
Academy Dean
Professor or university dean
Rival
Male
Female
Professor or university dean
Oh yeah- any ideas for the fire & water starters?

EDIT:
for the grass starter could you have them in separate pictures therefore making it easier to put them into the fakedex
