Pokemon: Era of Conflict (PG-13)

Naraku_Diabolos

DNC20/NIN10
Okay, I'm posting Chapter 2 now. I don't want anyone to flame me or post harsh messages against my fanfic. Otherwise I'm reporting you to Dragonfree and Zephyr Flare. I'm completely ashamed that people would diss someone's idea when it's not their's. Keep your bad comments to yourself. If you have nothing nice to say, then don't say it at all.

Okay, the fanfic. If you remember, this fanfic is a mix between Pokémon and Final Fantasy. My ideas are original (except for 'some' characters who are from FFXI) and I have new inventions that aren't available in or shown in the anime or video games.

Creation of the World…

Long ago, the Goddess Altana created the Earth by Herself... It took seven days and seven nights to complete this task... Her dearest friend, however, God Promathia, was in a deep slumber whilst the world was being formed... He, along with His Servant, Diabolos, awoke after the Earth was formed. She created eight Servants to serve as creating the life forms throughout Earth. The Servants went by the names of Carbuncle, Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Titan, Leviathan, Garuda and Fenrir.

Carbuncle made the life forms for Earth and helped Goddess Altana by creating the sun and daytime.

Ifrit, the beast of flames and heat, created warmth, heat and fire on Earth.

Shiva, the queen of eternal winter, created cold wind, snow and ice.

Ramuh, the sage of wisdom, created energy and electricity in the atmosphere.

Titan, the giant of Gaia, had a pet to work with him named Groudon, who helped to mold the land, soil and rocks.

Leviathan, a beast of the water, had a pet named Kyogre who helped fill the dry and rocky ground with water to help create lakes, rivers, and oceans.

Garuda along with her pet Rayquaza, the winged avian of air helped create the air for all life forms to breathe and helped make clouds for transporting Leviathan's water.

Fenrir, a wild beast of darkness, aided Goddess Altana by creating outer space, the moon and helped Earth with having night...

Goddess Altana asked Carbuncle to create the first human beings and he brought life to them with his breath...

Soon after words, Goddess Altana asked the other servants to make animal life forms on Earth, and it was done.

However, God Promathia and Diabolos were upset over Goddess Altana's creations of the world. Diabolos, his minion, went to Earth to cause trouble with the humans. Diabolos created sins, diseases, sickness and hurt for the human beings to witness. Goddess Altana wanted to prevent humans from witnessing these terrible calamities. This is when the first Pokémon was created...

Goddess Altana commissioned all of Her Servants to create a creature with all the traces of the eight heavenly elements. The first Pokémon to be created...was Mew... Mew awoke after being given life. She reacted with such frightening results that she created her own trace elements—seventeen elements: Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying (Wind), Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Steel, and Dark.

Mew gave the trace elements their identity and a physical form. These were the Elementals or spirits for the early forms of Pokémon. Normal became "Purity", Fire became "Flame", Water became "Marine", Electricity became "Plasma", Grass became "Floral", Ice became "Frost", Fighting became "Power", Poison became "Miasma", Ground became "Soil", Flying (Wind) became "Zephyr", Psychic became "Spirit", Bug became "Shell", Rock became "Marble", Ghost became "Specter", Dragon became "Mystic", Steel became "Luster", and Dark became "Necro"…

The appearances of these Elementals are strange; they are a form of energy and have an appearance of theme after what kind of ‘elements’ they are. No human has seen one of the Elementals since they came into being. Yet it is believed that the Elementals appear during horrific weather or until a person has made a commitment towards Goddess Altana and Mew for bringing peace to the world, a chosen person… If horrific weather is about to occur, one of the Elementals comes forth to abolish the foreboding threat. Horrific weather meaning a war with Pokémon and humans, a war with endless deaths and catastrophes…

These Elementals brought forth the many species of Pokémon. The Elementals spotted wild animals or inorganic material. After the Elemental had analyzed the subject, it copied the form of the object and molded into the Pokémon. However, certain ones took hold of certain regions throughout Earth itself... These were called Legendaries. With the Legendary (the pets of the Servants) Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza as aid, Goddess Altana and Mew created three other Legendaries and one of them was Mew's son: Mewtwo, Ho-oh and Lugia. Lugia itself had three other Pokémon it created: Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. These winged avians guarded sacred treasures of Frost, Plasma, and Flame. Ho-oh had three other Pokémon it created too: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. These beasts watched over humanity and became guardians of them. Rayquaza, Groudon, and Kyogre pitched in as well and made guardians of the land: Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. These golems were cast away because of their ancient powers and could have posed a threat to humanity...

After the Pokémon were created, the Servants of Goddess Altana fell into a deep slumber and were locked away from the physical world in their own sanctums… They await the call of a chosen person or Goddess Altana to come to their aid.

The Elementals, however, had deposited some form of their energy on Earth: Crystals. These were brought along with Pokémon and called PokéCrystals. The energy from the Elementals is infused in Crystals and exists in their seventeen elements.

Pokémon existed with the first humans and animals from the dawn of time. However, Mew is revered as the “Daughter of Altana” and “Mother of Pokémon”; this is why some cultural tribes sought this. There is one continent in particular that is thought to be the origin of Pokémon: it is called the Elemental Eve. From modern and ancient times, people have tried to tame these creatures called "Pokémon". With success, people trained these creatures as partners, friends, pets or tools.

As time past with people and technology, people created spheres that could hold Pokémon, PokéBalls. The first ones were created by infusing the elemental PokéCrystals with nuts called Apricorns. Artisans still make custom PokéBalls even today. When technology grew, there was no need for using the PokéCrystals for Apricorn PokéBalls.

Now PokéCrystals were used to create new tools, Technical and Hidden Machines. These were created by melding certain types of PokéCrystals with heat and radiation. TMs, when being touched by Pokémon, give the creatures’ new ways to use their abilities. Pokémon could use them and forget them as they pleased. HMs, however, when used on a Pokémon, could not be forgotten by normal means. Only special herbs and medicines could eliminate these moves from a Pokémon's memory.

The Elemental Eve Continent has different types of regional and environmental factors. There are four districts that are named after the chief elements: Gaia (Earth), Aqua (Water), Pyro (Fire), and Gale (Wind)... Within these districts, communities of people thrive with different ethnics and cultural backgrounds. Many of them erected Pokémon Stadiums in honor of the land and the Servants.

Many people, furthermore, have used Pokémon as tools when they were created. Tools to cause destruction towards people and other Pokémon. One of these, in the region of Kanto, was the famous organization that abused Pokémon, and was named Team Rocket. In another continent, the region of Hoenn, there was two organizations who sought the power of Leviathan and Titan's pets, Kyogre and Groudon... However, they failed in trying to use them and were finished as an organization.

In the Elemental Eve Continent, however, there was no evil organization to begin with, but a military force that was commission to bring upon safety of the Continent's Republican government. Soon afterwards, a threat appeared and it was soon that the military would need to fight against it… It hungers for the power of the PokéCrystals…

Chapter 1: The Appearance of a Beast...

It was a brisk night and Adam was outside chopping firewood in his backyard. His mother, Alexa, told her son that he needed to do so because there was a cold front coming in next morning. Adam stretched and yawned, “I’m pooped. I hope this is enough firewood. I don’t know how cold it is going to get tonight, though.” The moon was shining brightly through the clouds, while the gusts of wind picked up with leaves dancing about in the air. The cold gusts of air were starting to get to Adam, which he was wearing a short-sleeve shirt. He started to shiver. Adam held up his hands and then blew into them with his warm breath, trying to keep his hands warm.

“Hm?” Adam heard a slight rustle amongst the bushes and then suddenly a clawed foot emerged. Adam picked up his axe and clenched it tightly. Then a whole leg appeared, and soon the creature.

“Soool...” the Pokemon cooed. It came forward towards Adam, with a limping stride. Adam gazed downward and saw that the creature’s leg was severely injured. Blood was dripping from its wounded leg. The Pokémon looked like large dog, yet it was light reddish brown furred. Its face was a darkened shade of brown. The legs were long and had a spike or a hook where the leg bends. It also had intimidating claws, three on each foot. The Pokémon had a long crescent on its head, colors similar and face. Its tail was also arched and the same brown. Its eyes glowed blue in the darkness.

“Hey, don’t worry buddy...” stated Adam, “I won’t hurt you.” The Pokémon took another step and collapsed onto the ground. He made haste but carefully crept up to the injured and then picked it up. With his arms full, he walked up to his house with the Pokémon in his hands, but kicked the door instead of knocking.

“Mom! I need your help!” shouted Adam.

Alexa came rushing up, “Hmm? What is the matter, Adam?”

“I need your help, mother. I was outside chopping firewood and this Pokémon appeared. I don’t know what it is, but can you watch it while I go upstairs and retrieve my PokéDex?” asked Adam.

“Okay,” Alexa said uncertainly.

“I’ll be right back,” said Adam while he was going up the stairs.

“Make it quick, honey. I don’t know if it’s safe to have a wild Pokémon inside the house..." She said to herself since she was alone. "Okay big guy, let me have a look at your leg... Hmm...Oh! What’s this? Huh...?”

The light fixture was dull, but it revealed something more that caught her eye. Clearly, this was no normal Pokémon. The coat of fur was brown. It did not look like its natural coloring. Its coloration was very different. “Oh my God... You’re nothing like any other Pokémon I’ve ever seen before. Adam! Come quickly!”

“Okay, mom,” he shouted from upstairs, “what’s the problem?”

“Hurry, son! I think there is something bizarre about this Pokémon. It doesn’t seem normal...!”

“Hang on, mom, I’ve only got two legs here you know.” He said in reply. Adam rushed down the stairs almost stumbling. “What is it you wanted to show me, mom?” he asked.

“Adam,” Alexa started saying, “come look over here by the lamp next to this Pokémon...”

“Hold on,” stated Adam, “let me see what Pokémon this is on my PokéDex.”

“Analyzing... Absol, the Disaster Pokémon: Every time Absol appears before people, it is followed by a disaster such as an earthquake or a tidal wave. As a result, it came to be known as the disaster Pokémon. Absol has the ability to foretell the coming of real natural disasters. It lives in a harsh, rugged mountain environment. This Pokémon very rarely ventures down from the mountains. It is a long-lived Pokémon that has a life-span of 100 years.”

“Adam, I don’t know about this particular Absol...it’s not the same coloration on your PokéDex. Look, this one has a brown coloration.”

“Yeah, mom, you’re right...” he replied.

“Dear, I’ll give Professor Herb a call now. I’ll see if you can ride your bike down to his lab tomorrow morning.” Answered Alexa.

“Okay then, but can I take Growlithe with me than? I don’t know if I might be confronted by a wild Pokémon on the way, so I might be able to battle and capture it.” Adam smiled softly.

“Sure thing, Adam, but get some good night rest now. I have to ask the neighbor if I can borrow his Machoke so I can do lawn work tomorrow morning,” sighed Alexa. “It’s just that ever since your father left us,” she felt like crying now, “I just haven’t had enough spirit to work around the house. It’s tough being a single mother, but I’ll get over it eventually. I’ll wake you up when I awake, okay?”

“Yeah, that sounds fine.” Adam said as a response.

“Now,” Alexa began, “I’m going to bind up this Absol’s wound and feed it. We have leftover hot dogs in the refrigerator. I’ll warm them up and feed it that. Take a good rest honey and I’ll see you in the morning.”

Adam woke up the next morning, feeling good yet very hungry. He groaned coming down the stairs. “Mom,” he asked in a weary voice, “what’s for breakfast?”

“Oh, I see that you’re awake now.” She said sarcastically.

“Ha-ha, very funny, mom,” snapped back Adam.

“Okay, we have some cereal, you don’t mind some Wheaties? We’re out of the berry mixed kind...”

“Sure thing. Hey, Growlithe!” Adam yelled.

“Shhh, not so loud. You’re forgetting that the wild Absol is under the table still sleeping. I was up until 3 A.M. this morning feeding him and getting him comfortable. Growlithe was doing his part trying to help me settle Absol down.”

“Sorry, mom,” he answered, “Where is Growlithe anyways?”

“He went to go fetch the paper out on the lawn. Unlike some people who sleep in, mind you.” Alexa winked.

“You don’t have to rub it in, mom...” he replied.

Alexa glanced out the window. “I also managed to get a hold of Professor Herb last night. At least he wasn’t asleep. He was trying to wait and listen for the Noctowl to return to their nest in the tree next to his window. He’s seeing where the Noctowl are going to every night and search for food for their young Hoothoot owlets.” Stated Alexa. “On top of that, he’ll be awaiting your arrival at his lab at 10 o’clock. He wants to examine that Absol and see what caused its injury. I also mentioned that the Absol had an unusual coloring as well.”

“Okay then,” said Adam while his mouth was full of cereal, “you know...I’m almost done eating now. Let me drink my Moo-Moo Milk in the bowl as well.” (Milk that is made from Miltank, a cow Pokémon.)

“Okay, now I’m done.” Proclaimed Adam.

“Wow,” Alexa was getting sarcastic again, “do you want a cookie?”

“Mom...anyways, I’m gonna go get dressed now, I’ll be right back.” He started making his way back up the stairs and into his bedroom.

“Okay, I’ll be waiting.” Alexa spoke.

In case you don’t know about Adam and Alex’s pet Pokémon, Growlithe, it is a small dog Pokémon. It has reddish to brown coloration for its fur with dark brown or black stripes. Its fur upon its chest and head is tan to beige. A Growlithe is a Fire-type Pokémon. It protects its Trainer from harm, barking at intruders or any creature that is walking by its Trainer. Very loyal, a Growlithe usually stays near its Trainer at all times. It may even have to use its fire attacks and biting.

5 minutes later, Adam was in his clothes, had his backpack reading, Growlithe, and Absol were ready to go. He put on his favorite clothes. He wore his purple shirt that had attachments that would hold PokéBalls and his green shorts that came down to his knees. He also seized his blue backpack from the chair next to his desk. Adam got on his bicycle with Growlithe in the basket.

“Okay,” Adam started to say to Absol, “do you want to become my Pokémon? I promise I will take very excellent care of you.”

Absol looked up. “Sol...” it said and then nodded.

“Okay! It’s settled then! Absol, you’re our newest addition to my family! PokéBall, go!”
Absol was captured inside a red light and absorbed into the PokéBall! Like any normal Trainer, you can nickname your captured Pokémon, but Adam decides not to rename any of his Pokémon that he captures or has with him.

“Okay,” he started saying to Growlithe, “did you want to ride in the front basket on my bicycle?”

“Growl!” Adam took it for a yes. Growlithe jumped into the basket.

Alexa was standing at the door waiting for him to get going. “Okay dear, I’ll be seeing you shortly! Tell the Professor that I said good morning to him!”

“Will do, mom,” he replied.

With Adam kicking up the dirt with his tires, he started making his way to the Professor’s Pokémon laboratory. It was a pleasant morning. The wind was brisk and very calm. It seemed that the cold front that went through last night was over in a few hours. Several Pidgey flew by in the treetops while some Rattata scurried across the pathway. Adam knew that it wasn’t the right time to start catching anything at the moment because he had a duty to fulfill by arriving to Professor Herb’s lab, although it felt tempting to catch Pokémon that were running within his field of vision.

The sun was shining brightly. Growlithe had its tongue hanging out of its mouth, just as if any dog would do. “So,” Adam was starting to say, “How long, Growlithe, has it been since we were both alone with each other?”

“Growl-growl?” it barked in questioning.

“Yeah, this seems like the first time we’ve been together in a few years. After my dad died, it was lonely. It was a good thing that you weren’t killed too. Who knows how life would be like having no dog around the house and a good companion? Isn’t that right?” he started rubbing it on its head.

Growlithe’s nose nudged Adam’s hand. “Hehe. Thanks buddy. Ever since my dad died, you were the only one around the house to look after my mother and me. You were a big help after those years. We’re proud of your loyalty to us.”

Ten minutes past, and Adam had made it down the dirt road leading towards Professor Herb’s laboratory. Growlithe jumped out and landed on the ground while Adam laid his bike against the wall of the building with the kickstand up. Adam walked to the door and rang the doorbell.

“Yes,” replied someone over the intercom, “who is it?”

“It’s me, Professor, Adam.” He answered.

“Oh!” said Professor Herb. “Come on in!” beeped the intercom shutting off.

“Hey, Professor Herb. How are you doing?” yelled Adam.

“I’m upstairs, so wait for me. I have to get a book.”

“Okay,” Adam said patiently.

Herb came down the stairs. He was a short man of 5 feet and had thin hair. Herb had grey hair and a small mustache. He wore glasses with thin frames. He had the appearance of a middle-aged man, but was in his late forties. Growlithe stayed by the doorway while Adam and Professor Herbert started walking.

“My,” he stated, “you’ve grown the last time I saw you! I’m doing fine right now. I got my journal from my room. Remember what I said to your mother last night that I was observing a pair of Noctowl? I wrote down some information on the times they were flying in and out of their nest. So, what is it you wanted to show me, Adam?”

“Well, Professor, last night I was chopping some firewood out in my backyard and I heard something rustle in the bushes. I didn’t know what it was, but it appeared to be a Pokémon, called an Absol.”

“An Absol, eh?” he said. “Absol only live in the mountains you know, but they are very rare to spot. I knew one time that in the newspaper around seven years ago, there were an abundance of wild Absol thriving in the mountains but they have seemed to disappear. They must have migrated to another part of the mountains, though. However, it’s strange to see an Absol wandering down from the mountains and into Breezy-Grove. That’s a very rare occurrence there, though. Do you mind showing me the Absol?”

“No problem, Professor,” he said in reply, “PokéBall, go!!”

Absol came out of the PokéBall, with the bandage still attached to its leg.

“Wow!” Herb said in astonishment, “what a beauty! Huh? What? This is something! Adam, this Absol is a different color! I’ve never even seen a Pokémon of an abnormal coloration! Absol have black skin and gray fur, not brown skin and tan fur… What a find indeed! Do you mind walking with me to the lab’s office?”

“Sure thing.” Adam replied.

Walking down the hallway, Adam noticed a picture of a man standing next to the Professor in the picture.

“Professor?” Adam asked, “Who’s that young boy standing next to you in the picture?”

“Why, Adam,” he seemed shocked, “don’t you know that that is your father?”

“Huh? It is? He looks like me.”

“Yes, you always reminded me of him. Ever since your dad was a younger Trainer, he was always fascinated with Pokémon. He didn’t want to become like a Professor like I am. He wanted the world to understand that Pokémon are our friends and make peace between both humans and Pokémon. When he was in his late teens, say twenty years or something, he went the Pokémon Academy of Lilac-Creek Town. There he met your mother. Soon, about three years later, they both married. Then another year later, you were born. Then, after you were five, William was enlisted in the military. He thought it would be a good idea to serve the community and our city.

“It wasn’t then until your father had to get into a conflict in the Gaia District. He was standing guard one day until he got word that there were some Team Mecha henchmen surveying the area. He had Growlithe along with him, but it was a major mistake. He didn’t realize what Team Mecha was capable of and didn’t understand the type of power they had...

“William didn’t know that Team Mecha had made, for themselves, an extension of scientific breakthroughs with synthesizing TMs. The TMs created by Team Mecha are complete evil. However, I know some people who hold knowledge of how to make TMs that can counter what Team Mecha is making. I can’t remember the names of the people, but if my memory serves me right, they all live in the Elemental Eve Continent. There might be something useful if you can get to it in the north. It’s in the Republican capital of the Sol District, Aurora City. There is also a lab there that does research on TMs and maybe they can give you help on what there is.

“If you need guidance and look for a way to train with your Pokémon, why not fight in the Stadiums held in the capitals of the Districts? Who knows? They do give away TMs and powerful ones too. The founders of the Stadium are the ones who undertake research on TMs from the Republican capital and are distributed to the Stadiums.

“Adam, I’m sorry for rambling on there for a bit.”

“Its okay, Professor, I was listening to what you said. It sounded very interesting.”

“Well now, I’m impressed you didn’t fall asleep! I got something for you. I was able to order a helpful device I found online. It’s pretty popular in the Hoenn Region. It’s called a PokéNavi. All the Trainers who live there have one of them. I got an updated one that has a call system on there. It acts as a cell phone, and you can keep in touch with your mom and me. It also has a built-in radio so that you can listen to music on it as well. There is a map function equipped with every PokéNavi produced. Let me get it out of the drawer in my file cabinet. Come into my office, Adam.”

They made it around the corner and into Herb’s office.

“Okay,” he said while getting it out of the drawer, “here you go, Adam.”

“Thanks Professor!” Adam said excitedly while grasping the tiny device in his hands. The PokéNavi was oval shaped, tan and had a blue sphere that appeared to be the button to open the device.

“Adam,” he started, “let me register my name and phone number on there so that you can keep in touch with me. If anything bad happens, please call me or your mother so that we can know if you’re going through difficult times throughout your journey ahead, yet I have a little mission I need you to go on...”

“A mission...” Adam said in shock, “What do you mean?”

“Well,” Herb stated, “I need you to go up to the Whisper Mountains a little west of here. That Absol you have, it’s a mountainous Pokémon. It only thrives in high altitudes, you see. That’s why I need you to travel up to the mountains and report back to me through the PokéNavi. I need to know what has caused this Absol to wander from the mountains. I also need to know what has caused its injury. If it were a boulder that fell, that’s fine. However, I see that its flesh wounds are deep cuts on its left leg. A rock couldn’t have done that damage. It must have been more, something that could have hurt its leg that bad...”

“So, when shall I leave, Professor?” asked Adam.

“Oh, anytime you’re ready. Don’t worry; it’s not a long hike to the mountains. Out in my backyard is a path I take every-now-and-then to search for Pokémon while doing field studies. Do you want to have some lunch before you hike into the mountains?”

“Sure thing, Professor.”

NOTES:
The Absol Adam found isn't shiny; it's a different color. In the story, Pokémon coloration differ from District to District. They also have different classifications:

Forest Taillow: Small and light blue. This Taillow has small tail feathers and a curved beak that is used to dig in the soil for insects.

Mountain Taillow: Larger than the Forest Taillow. It has a darker blue coloration and longer tail feathers. Its talons are longer so that it can grasp prey without it slipping away.

Forest Linoone: Smaller version of the River Linoone. Its coloration is a hazel color and has tan stripes on its back. Its claws are curved so that it can dig in the ground.

River Linoone: Similar to an otter, these Linoone have darker brown fur and black stripes. It is all-aquatic and its claws are hooked for catching fish.

Back on Absol, you will later in this story find out why this Absol is a brown coloration. Why did it appear before Adam? Could it be someone he used to know?

You'll also learn WHY that Absol came to Adam as well, so don't be jumping to any conclusions that, "Oh wow, he found an Absol. Aren't there more FanFics that are like this?" Don't be making assumptions until there are more chapters, then you'll know why it appeared and so forth.

Chapter 2: The Mission

After finishing some lunch, Adam departed the Professor’s laboratory. Herb prepared soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. They also had Nomelade for drink.

“See you later, Professor! I’ll beep you when I get into a clearing for sending a clear signal from my PokéNavi.”

“Good luck, Adam. I’m counting on you to make it up safely. There is a clearing up there, as you were saying. It’s a space near a large boulder that has few trees thriving. You’ll notice it from below the path. Okay?”

“Sure thing, see you later, Professor.”

Walking along the path, he spotted a purple snake that was sunbathing on a rock. Adam decided to try to catch it. This will be the first Wild Pokémon battle he would have. He didn’t have one with Absol because of its injuries. This purple snake, an Ekans, is a Pokémon that appeared to be dark purple; probably a male. It had amber eyes matched the golden bans swirling around its body. It appeared that this Ekans was at least a good 5 feet.

“Absol, come on out!” he said as he flung his PokéBall towards the Ekans.

“Absol!!” he barked. He looked ready to fight even though he has an injured leg.

“Absol, use the Scratch attack!” Absol extended his talons and lifted its left leg for the attack.

The Ekans woke up. He flicked his tongue to sense the impending danger from Absol. He rose his head and let out its cry, “KEHHH!”

Scratch made a direct hit. It seemed to weaken the Ekans a bit. The Ekans reared up and gave a Leer attack towards Absol. Absol flinched back a bit. It seems that he had let his defense down a bit.

“Absol, give it your Leer attack right back at him!”

“Sol...” Absol glared at the Ekans...it then flinched back and seemed to let down its defense a bit as well. Then the Ekans lunged forward for a Bite attack. It sunk its fangs right into Absol’s right leg.

“SOL!!” Absol got angry and swung his leg into the air. The Ekans flew for a split second and landed onto the ground with a rising cloud of dust. He wasn’t moving and it appeared to be knocked out.

“PokéBall, GO!!!” Adam threw the PokéBall and it managed to strike the Ekans. Ekans was then absorbed into the PokéBall and it was shaking furiously. He must have been really p*ssed, Adam thought, for being captured. The PokéBall stopped shaking! The red light from the button to open the Ball flashed and went off slowly. Ekans was caught!

“Yeah, Absol, we did it! We caught a new Pokémon!!”

“Absol!” he cheered in a yelp.

“Growlithe!!” Growlithe yelped too.

“Hee, thanks guys. Okay, let us continue upward. But first, let’s have a break now, shall we?” Growlithe and Absol nodded as well to his reply and Adam let his newfound Ekans out of its Ball.

“Kehh!” He hissed at them.

“Here, Ekans, have a juice box that I have. It’s Leppa Berry Juice, but I don’t know if you like this really tasty berry. I know that snakes don’t usually tasted fruit, but try it.” Adam then undid the lid of the juice bottle and poured it into a bowl from his backpack.

“Keh? Kehh!” He started to submerge its head into the bowl and took down a few gulps. He seemed to enjoy the taste and he then re-submerged his head into the bowl and started drinking again. After a few minutes, Ekans had finished the juice and then had some bits of meat Adam had prepared for himself, Absol and Growlithe. It was some beef jerky.

“Okay guys; let’s move forward up the mountain. Ekans? Do you want to stay out with Growlithe, Absol and I?”

“Keh!” he nodded.

“Why don’t you come around my neck, okay? You can coil around it, but don’t squeeze too hard. I have to breathe, you know.” Ekans started slithering towards Adam and climbed around him and then onto his shoulders.

“Absol, you want to stay out or go back outside your Ball?” Adam asked his Absol.

“Sol.” Absol nodded down.

“So, you want to be inside it?”

“Sol.” He nodded up in reply.

“Okay, in you go.” Absol flashed red and then disappeared into the Ball. “Let’s go forward, shall we?”

“Growl!”

“Keh!”

Adam and his Pokémon hiked up the mountain and made into another clearing where the sunshine was visible through the sparse growth of trees.

“AHHH!” yelled someone in vain. It sounded like a young girl’s cry.

“Huh? What was that?” Adam said quietly to himself.

“Let go of me!!” yelled a girl.

“Hey, shut up you little wench!” said a man.

“Help! Someone, help me!!” she was crying for help.

“Shut up or we’ll make you!” it was another man’s voice.

“Pipe down, or you’ll cause a big scene, you little brat!!” the first man yelled.

Adam walked slowly toward where the struggle was. He saw them through the branches of a tree and there was a bush below the branch. He peered through the bush and watched. The girl had long, curly and reddish brown hair and bright lavender eyes. She was dressed in a pink gown with green floral patterns imprinted on it. She had sandals on. The two men had dark purple uniforms on with black boots. There was a silver ribbons that encircled their shirts and pants; they must be from Team Mecha!!

“HEY! Get your dirty hands off of that girl!!!” Adam yelled at them.

“What was that?” the one man said when he was alerted by Adam’s voice. “Hey, kid! Who the hell do you think you are! You have some kind of peppy attitude towards us," he sneered back. "You wanna fight? Pffft, go ahead; we’re going to knock you out cold, you little worm!!” yelled the one Mecha Grunt with brown hair. Adam felt like he did not know what he was getting himself into just now. He felt very nervous. How was he going to get away from this? There was only one way out, and that was to battle this Mecha Grunt.

“Hey, Clayton,” yelled the other Mecha Grunt, “I’m going to head back into the shack. Take care of this whelp for us, would ya? You’re coming with me, my little wretch.” Adam felt ashamed at this very moment. Oh great, he said to himself, I let that person get away while taking that innocent girl as his hostage…

“OW! Stop hurting me!!” the girl yelled back in response. The Grunt pulled her by the arm and slung her over his shoulder. She started to beat him on the back.

“You know what to do, Clayton; just get the job done and dispose of this kid!” he said while running away. The man took a sharp turn to the left and was out of sight.

“Hey! Get back here!” Adam yelled to the Grunt who ran off with the girl.

“Nuh-uh, kid, your fight is with me! Let us battle!! Great Ball, go!”

He flung a Great Ball that had a golden trail following it; what an incredible sight! No time for sightseeing. Adam soon snapped out of it. He looked down at Growlithe, who was getting a bit edgy about this situation.

“Growlithe, go!!” yelled Adam. While pointing towards the Great Ball that had landed onto the ground.

“All right, come on out, Mankey!” The Great Ball flew open in a golden light. Bathed in a golden light, a Mankey appeared.

“Mank!!” squawked the Mankey. It started to beat the ground with its fist. It looked very aggressive. The small monkey was a foot tall, had a light tan coloration and dark brown feet and hands. It had a tail that was long and tan with and dark brown tip. Its eyes were red; red with anger and hatred. It had a look on it as if it were about to kill anything that messed with it. Its fur suggested that it was female because of the pale coloration it had.

“Growlithe, use Ember!” Growlithe took a deep breath and summoned a fireball from within himself. It blasted forward and struck the Mankey. Looked like it made a direct hit too!

“Mankey, use your Karate-Chop!” The Mankey got up, cracked her knuckles and lunged at Growlithe with her tiny hand. *SMACK!* She made a hit onto Growlithe! Growlithe was panting. That Karate-Chop must have really hurt Growlithe there.

“Growlithe, Leer at her!” Growlithe looked at the Mankey with his eyes and gave her a stare. The Mankey flinched back and seemed to lay down her defense.

“Ma-ma-ma-mank!!” she screeched in fear.

“What’s wrong, Mankey? Go for it with a Seismic-Toss!” yelled the Grunt.

This time, the enemy Mankey took action completely. It clenched Growlithe by the neck and threw it into the air, aiming at the cliff wall. Growlithe was sent flying and looked dizzy. It was heading towards the wall of the cliff too fast!

“Growl?” Growlithe came to its senses and landed against the wall by aiming its feet facing the wall to brace the impact. Growlithe struck the wall with its feet, but pushed off it.

“Growlithe!! Take Down!!” Growlithe’s push was good enough to launch this attack combo. He was heading straight towards the Mankey. Growlithe raised its paw and he bared his claws. Its claws glistened in the sunlight. He cut right through the air at such an amazing speed that the Mankey had no time at all to react.

“MANK!!” The enemy Mankey was struck out cold. Growlithe slashed a deep cut onto the Mankey’s head. Blood started dripping and the Mankey collapsed. Growlithe wiped hs paws onto the dirt and stomped the ground in victory.

“What the hell did you do to my Pokémon, you little brat?!” screamed the Mecha Grunt in frustration.

“Hey, I’m not letting you get away with this, you thug! Where did you take the girl?” questioned Adam.

“I ain’t telling you nothing, you little punk! Time to meet your end! I’ll fight you now, one on one!” the Grunt used the PokéBall to call back his Mankey. He then reached into his pocket and looked as if he was going to pull out a knife on Adam.

“Oh yeah, dude, well guess what? Growlithe, FLAMETHROWER!!”

Growlithe let out a big howl, “GROWL!!” His throat started to glow with red and he then spewed hot flames from his mouth! The swirling column of fire was launched directly at the Grunt!

“What the...?” said the Grunt, having no time to react to his end. The Grunt stood there; burning to death and slowly fell apart as if a tree branch caught on fire... He was completely incinerated from the Flamethrower attack.

“Wow, Growlithe...oh, damn...did I just kill him by accident...” Growlithe made a face that had a sadden expression and so did Adam. Adam thought that that seemed the way of how his father had died. He felt a swelling sensation stirring in his heart. Adam felt ashamed for doing that to the Team Mecha Grunt. “Gosh, I didn’t really mean to do that...,” he said quietly. He knelt down, grabbed a handful of dirt, and sprinkled it on the burnt body. Growlithe’s eyes became a bit watery and tears trickled down the side of his face. “Oh well, I feel very sorry for doing that,” he said, “but we had better go look for that other guy who kidnapped the girl! Come on, Growlithe and Ekans!”

Ekans then sprung off Adam’s shoulders. “Huh? What’s the matter, Ekans?” Ekans looked at Adam, than the corpse of the Mecha Grunt. He then slithered over towards the Grunt and went where his fried shirt was lying down. Ekans dug into the heap of ashes and pulled out something that was a shiny disk. “What’s this?” Adam was shocked. It read “Zero-SD Disk.”

“What the heck is this? This kind of looks like a TM or HM, but this one is glittery, like it’s from a girls’ make-up kit... Huh, let me keep this stored in my pocket...” Adam then slid the disk into his pocket for safekeeping. He then gazed upon the Mecha Grunt’s body and saw his PokéBall laying there. He picked it up as well and threw it into his backpack, seeing that the Grunt had no other use for it since he was dead...

Adam looked at the dirt path that the fleeing Grunt took. It seemed that it was through some trees to the right of the clearing around the side of the cliff. Walking with Ekans on his shoulders still and Growlithe at his feet, he went forward through the brush. It got dark, because now the path they were taking was on the shady part of the mountain. Adam saw a few Spearow flying and a few Nincada making humming sounds through the trees. A gentle breeze wafted through the trees as well. Making it around the bend, there was another clearing. A giant mossy stone laid there and it seemed to appear to be a lighter shade than the surrounding rocks. Adam crept up to it and lightly brushed away some of the twigs that were on top of it.

It was cloth all right and it was covering a small wooden shack that was dug into the rock wall. Peering through the window, Adam saw a shadow of a body lying on the ground.

“No...Please tell me that’s not the girl...” Adam said to himself quietly. He quietly went around the side of the shack and opened the door slowly.

“AHH!” It was the girl!

“You’re not hurt, are you?” questioned Adam.

“No...But thanks for finding me here. I really appreciated it.” She said smiling back.

“What were you doing up here in the mountains by yourself? And why did those Team Mecha Grunts go after you?”

“Team Mecha Grunts? Who are they? Those men who took and ran with me back here?” said the girl.

“Huh? You mean to tell me you don’t know who or what the Team Mecha criminal organization is?”

“Nope.” Said the girl with a plain and straight face. “I came up here on my own free will. I’m traveling the area looking for something...by the way, what were you doing up here in these mountains then? Are you a bad guy too?”

“No, no I’m not. What’s your name anyways?” said Adam.

“Well, why don’t you tell me yours first?”

“Okay then, my name is Adam.”

“My name is Mackenzie. So...oh my! That’s a cute Growlithe you have there!”

“Oh, this little guy?” Adam said happily while patting Growlithe on the head. “He’s my pet Growlithe. He actually belonged to my father, but he died several years back in a conflict when he was in the military... It’s a shame that he’s gone now. All I have left is my mother and Growlithe to protect me. Since I was young, I wanted to become strong just like my dad.” Adam was saying.

Mackenzie looked up and Adam with her bright, lavender eyes and smiled. The beam of light poured in from the window and Adam could see more of the interior of the shack.

Adam looked past her and at the other Team Mecha Grunt who was lying on the ground. He seemed to be knocked out cold.

“What did you do to this guy?” questioned Adam

“Oh, nothing really, Adam…well, I could at least tell you ‘what’ I did to him. Please, keep this a secret of what I’m about to show you.” Said Mackenzie.

“Okay, no problem…what is it then?” Adam seemed puzzled.
Mackenzie got up and held out her hand. Light was shimmering around her hand and soon she flicked her wrist and then a single spray of lightning shot out from her palm!

“…what are you?!” Adam was stunned.

“I can’t exactly tell you what I am…or why those men were after me either…all I can tell is that I need help searching for the elemental crystals.” Mackenzie said. She seemed worried that she finally told a bit of her reason, or so, for being here.

“Hey, don’t worry Mackenzie. I won’t harm you. I’m not like those bad men. I came up here because I’m helping a friend of mine find out what caused my Pokémon’s injury. Here, let me show you.” Adam had a PokéBall attached to his purple shirt’s slot. “Come on out, Absol!”

Light was released from the PokéBall and Absol appeared. The bandage came undone from his leg! Adam looked at his leg and noticed.

“I forgot about your injury, Absol.”

“Sol…” he nodded.

“My goodness,” Mackenzie squealed with delight, “this is the Absol I met yesterday morning while hiking in these woods!”

“You know this particular Absol, Mackenzie?” Adam frowned slightly. “He isn’t your companion, is he?”

“No, I was minding my own business in the woods when we both crossed paths. I fed him a vegetable sandwich and then we both went our separate ways.”

“Sol!!” Absol nodded.

“Let’s see if I can figure out what caused his injuries now…” Mackenzie lifted her hand and gently placed it on Absol’s head, closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Sol? Sol…” he seemed to have fallen into a trance.

“What?” Adam was confused.

Several seconds passed and Mackenzie lifted her hand off Absol’s head. Absol also came to.

“It was them. Those two men… Absol was wandering down the pathway after we left each other, and came into the clearing where you found me, Adam. It’s much easier to explain this to you, Adam, if I did this…” Mackenzie laid her hand on Adam’s head and he now fell into a deep trance.

Here comes the first of the Final Fantasy elements of the series. Mackenzie is a special character. Unlike humans in the FanFic, Mackenzie has elemental abilities (and a hidden one not going to be mentioned yet until later) and can battle against Wild Pokémon and a Trainer's Pokémon. In the Final Fantasy series, I'm sure you're aware of a Red Mage. Red Mages are able to heal their allies and cast destructive magic against their opponents. Mackenzie is like a Red Mage, but in the story, it goes by a different name. She also can gain in level like Pokémon can and surprisingly, later, something will happen to her (can you say 'upgrade'?).

I just want to point out that reporting a harsh reviewer to a mod. Well.. I'll get it short harsh review+user reporting it= reporter get's chewed out. So I'm going to try saying this tactfully. To avoid offending you.
Well........ here's my review on the second chapter.
First off Adam still seems a bit flat and perfect to me. He didn't act very scared in the Team Mecha situation. You needed to show more fear of Adam in the situation. Also in the situation when he killed the Mecha Grunt. He didn't seem to care at all. He reacted like he just lost a video game to a friend. You should've showed more sadness. Make him cry, feel guilty. He seem a bit perfect. He doesn't react correctly enough. He didn't act very relieved when he found the girl. He didn't sound very sad talking about his dead father.
It also seemed a bit rushed. It's kinda difficult to correct rushed fics. But ask someone else to assist you in that era. I've seen more rushed fics. But this needs work.
You still use the short term Prof. instead of proffesor. And I told you not to do that in my previous review on your old fic. So from now on, do NOT use prof. Or if you're desperate you use it in dialogue, don't use a full stop/period afterwards or in narration.
You're still missing out a few actions. Like the bowl. Since when was there a bowl? I'm confused. Read through this to check you didn't miss out actions again. Be very careful in future.
Please when you're describing. Do NOT say 'they saw an Ekans. Which was purple, with yellow marks blah blah blah'. DO say something like 'they saw a purple snake. It looked at the duo, revealing yellow marks. It's eyes matched it's marks. Adam realized that it was an Ekans' and stuff. I wasn't really too sure what the Mecha Grunts.
On originality. A strong point. But needs a bit of improvement. In this area, I reckon you could've been a bit more creative with the name for the grunts. It's a different region afterall. And you made the Mecha grunts uniform too similar to team rocket's
The grammar. Another strong point. But need's improvement again. Growlithe is either male/female. Why am I pointing that out in grammar? Well, you said 'its' when you should have said 'his'. That would have made grammar easier. 'cause 'its' is when your basically fighting an army of its. 'it's' is used for an unbreedable thing, and reffering to something it posesses.
Hope I helped you. If you need help in adjusting some part just reply. Don't complain that I was harsh though. Some people are a lot harsher than I was. And you're actually lucky I did that nicely. Compare to most of my reviews that was very polite.

Yeah, that was. I do understand what you mean now... I think I'll add that quote to my 'advice' section in my FanFiction folder on my laptop.

I see where you're going at. However, when Mackenzie and Adam make it back to the Professor's lab/house, Mackenzie does ask him if that was a moral thing to do; to kill someone without a personal reason to do so.

However, I'm taking your advice and I'll re-edit my story later. I won't post the third chapter anytime soon, even though I'm on chapter 9.

I think that Adam's Growlithe is male, because Mackenzie has a Pokemon who is attracted to it and her Pokemon appears to be female.

In fact, I wish all people who look over fanfics, should be like you. Your advice was REALLY helpful. I do appreciate it.

In fact, you are right about it being rushed. I am going back over the story completely from the first chapter onward to nine.

The story thus far is in the 'prologue adventure'. This means the chapters are short and have a minor theme. When it is the 'main adventure', the chapters are very long because all the events happen within one whole day. It may seem a bit rush because I 'was' trying to get towards the main story. So yes, I did rush it a bit.

Yet, Blingin-G, what about military status such as Lieutenant and Captain when Adam encounters the military? Should I abbreviate it to Lieut. or Capt.?

PS: I added your advice to a Word document so that I can use the advise while working on the story. Thanks for being helpful.

I just want to point out that reporting a harsh reviewer to a mod. Well... I will get it short harsh review + user reporting it = reporter is chewed out. Therefore, I am going to try saying this tactfully. To avoid offending you.

NO. Any short abbreviated names should stay OUT of narration, you could do it in speech or vision. But if it's in speech, do NOT use the full stop (period) afterwards, or your making a big mistake in grammar. It's nice to know that I've given some helpful advice. I'm trying to get better at reviewing.

Hey there! You linked me to your fic, ND, so here I am.

First of all, I do have to agree with a bit of Blingin G's advice, such as trying not to rush it or changing the way you describe something, but for the latter, might I add on a little more help? In general, if you're posting a Pokémon fanfic then at least 99.99% of us know all the Pokémon through and through, maybe we can't say all the names right from memory but given a picture or short description, we're often able to distinguish what it is. Pokémon fans usually don't need too long or in-depth of a description unless it's an obviously special Pokémon like Adam's Absol. Typical Pokémon (Pokémon who have nothing different from their original selves) don't need as much, so something like "'Go, Mankey!' A tan colored monkey-like Pokémon with darker brown paws was released from the ball." or, "The two came upon an Ekans, a purple and yellow Poison-type snake." could probably work. BG's advice on description is agreeable, but I was more concerned about flow...sorry for taking so long with that.

Also, I can understand where he's coming from about abbreviations, but in some cases they're needed, like for example when you call a teacher Mr., well, we know that that's short for Mister. I don't believe we should unabbreviate THAT much, yes? Mister, Missus, Miss, and Doctor are almost always abbreviated. Once again, I apologize, I'm just trying to keep you guys and myself from being confused.

But all in all, this definitely looks like it'll turn out to be an amazing story, and I'm not saying that just because you're crossing over two games I like either. You've got plenty of potential as an author. Crossovers usually aren't original, but this one seems to have aspects which set it apart. I see mainly good coming out of this fanfic, and I can't wait to read Chapter 3. :)

EDIT: Oh, and just to be even more helpful as far as punctuation marks go, the way to get the accented E such as in Pokémon is simple. Just hold down Alt, and press 0233. Just thought it'd be good help, most people don't know about that.

Ah, I see Blingin-G. I see what you mean. Thanks for making it easy for me to understand. (I have to finish a report and then I'm going over the things you told me to correct on my FanFic)

Thanks for your help too, Empress.

Hey man. I remember reviewing your fic the first time you posted it here, before it got closed. I even remember trying to tell Zephyr Flare to give it one more chapter, but it got closed anyway. I just gotta tell you that what Blingin G said is pretty much correct. You are most probably going to draw the short end of the stick if you choose to report harsh posts. I can tell you that the best way to get it done would be to ensure that critics have nothing to slam you about.

Ifrit, the beast of flames and heat, created warmth, heat and fire on Earth.

Did you get the Ifrit from FF lore, or did you love it from DMC? Anyway, it is a pretty famous entity in the Arabian Nights, as are most of the other names you threw into the mix. For example, Fenrir, who most people know as the werewolk from HP, is actually the son of Loki in Norse mythology. Leviathan is a famous entity from the bible. Ok, I actually stopped at Carbuncle, because if I remember my biology correctly, those are sores on the skin right?
Actually, it was a mythical beast once spotted in the Americas by the spanish. However, I am going to guess that they were in fact taken from FF. I like the usage of such names, though. Just remember to stay true to their origins.

Dear, I’ll give Prof. Herb a call now

Be careful when you use abbreviations in writing. It is fine when you use them in speech, but not in the narrative, ok?

We have leftover hot dogs in the refrigerator

Reminds me of one of my favourite horror books, "The Traveling Vampire Show", in which the three main characters kinda liked to eat cold wieners from the fridge. Kinda random, but it reminded me of that book.

Prof. Herb

Indeed, you made the mistake. Remember to spell everything fully, unless using speech ok?

Milk that is made from Miltank, a cow Pokémon

This line was superfluous, but was funny.

It wasn’t then until your father had to get into a conflict in the Gaia District

More terms! I used a "gaeas" in my fic. Wonder if you know what that means? Pretty obscure term.

I see that the reviewers ahead of me have told you about the abbreviations. I am going to add that crossovers are hard to do well, as it is so hard to stay true to the subject matter, all the while evoking the ethos of your source material faithfully. You are effectively combining three different worlds, or are attempting to. The onus is on you to ensure that you guide this particular ship well enough.

I would like to see Adam being given some characteristics which make him stand out. Right now, we know that he is probably the protaganist, but the only reason we know that is because he was featured the most, not because he has something which gives him the right to take the limelight. Give him a handicap, or give him an attitude. Anything is better than nothing at all. Your chapters are long enough, but can be made longer, because while your sunject matter is present, your description is often lacking, especially if you are dabbling in fantasy. People need to see things as you would have them see, not as you assume they would see. Show them what they are supposed to see. Other than that, we have not seen enough of the story to give us a clear glimpse of what you are up to, as in we still do not know what the motives of your characters are, what they are up against etc. I cannot really judge this until that becomes more apparent, and I assume it will unfold over the next few chapters. In the meantime, good luck dude. Take care.

Yes, those 'Servants' are from FF lore.

Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, Garuda, Leviathan, Titan, Carbuncle, and Fenrir are the summonings from my favorite FF game, FFXI. Carbuncle in FFXI is a small three-tailed fox who has a red jewel on his forehead.

I know that a carbuncle is a type of sore a person gets. Have you read the The Canterbury Tales? See, and this is where it gets weird, Mindripper and EmpressMyuu. In the story, there's a man called a summoner (a person who is summoned for jury duty). He is described of having 'carbuncles' all over his face.

The strange thing is, I pointed it out to my English III teach last year by showing her the Canterbury Tales booklet and my FFXI guide about the summoner and carbuncle. She thought that Square-Enix got their idea from the Canterbury Tales.

In this story, if you note that there are 8 Servants. What 8 things must you do in the video games? I'm leaving that up to you to find out.

Currently, I'm correcting and adjusting what you've asked me what needed to be done.

EDIT:

Carbuncle:

1. MEDICINE inflamed swelling: a multiple-headed boil
2. rounded red gemstone: a red gemstone, especially a garnet, that is smoothly rounded and polished

Microsoft® Encarta® Reference Library 2003. © 1993-2002 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

EDIT 2:

In case you're wondering why I've named the evil organization, 'Team Mecha', is because mecha, meaning mechanical, or machine. The organization uses captured and obtained Pokémon as tools of war. That's why I have called them that.

EDIT 3:

Gaia is another form of saying Earth. Gaia literally means, "mother earth."

Yup I read it.

Carbuncle in FFXI is a small three-tailed fox who has a red jewel on his forehead.

In folklore, they have gems on their heads as well. Made from dragon blood/brain, if I am not mistaken.

Gaia is another form of saying Earth. Gaia literally means, "mother earth."

Yes it is. Gaia, Gaea, Gaya, all the same. The "gaeas" I referred to is definitely not the same, and neither is it a plural.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3: The Truth is Revealed

“Ohhh, my head…hm…what?” Adam felt fuzzy for a moment and suddenly realized that he was in a pitch-black void. “Hey! What happened? Where am I? This is getting all too weird…” he said. His voice was resonating.

“Adam…” it was Mackenzie’s voice. Suddenly, she appeared right next to him. “Don’t worry, Adam,” she said. “You are okay. We’re inside Absol’s mind. I’m going to show you what he witnessed.” She smiled trying to calm Adam. He seemed to be freaking out that they were in a dark void.

“Huh? Well, okay then…but how did you do this? Are you a psychic or something?” Adam asked.

“Well, you could say something like that…” Mackenzie answered. “Anyways, watch closely, Adam.” She closed her eyes. Vivid colors surrounded them both and images of the Whisper Mountains’ scenery took form. Adam noticed the pictures took to life. Turning from flat to three-dimensional, everything became life-like. Adam could then hear the wind whistle and the birds chirping. Underneath Adam and Mackenzie, a small patch of naked ground appeared. He reached out to the dirt underneath him and grains of soil fell from his hands. He was amazed by what Mackenzie was doing. He did not know what to think of her.

Suddenly, a dark figure started to lumber by. It came into view. Its coloration and appearance was unmistakable—it was Absol. He went through the brush, strolling along in the forest.

---------------

“Absol…sol?” He stopped and heard something through the brush.

“Hehe, yeah, this is good,” it was the man, Clayton, which Adam killed by accident earlier! “Ever since the Mecha Administrator sent us here to capture some Absol, we’ve had rotten luck. Let’s just kick it off for now, Brent.” Clayton kicked out his feet while he was sitting against a boulder.

“Yeah, Clayton, I know what you mean. Wanna beer?” he smirked to Clayton. Brent leaned over the rock they were sitting on and opened the cooler.

“Don’t mind if I do. Say, do you know why our Administrator wanted some Absol?” asked Clayton.

“She said that an Absol is one with nature. Absol are rugged and fearless. They hardly back down when it comes to battling. They also have a knack for learning elemental attacks and so forth. We were told from our Administrator there was one Absol in particular that was spotted recently by hiker, an Absol that guarded a cave. Our guess from what the Administrator told us that it is a cave littered with PokéCrystals.” Brent answered.

“That’s interesting. Remember, we need to find any kind of PokéCrystals in this area... Hey? Did you hear that just now?” Clayton was alarmed. He stood up and started to look around, shifting his head left and right.

Absol stood calmly in the bushes. He had accidentally stepped on a twig, snapping it in half. He then stood guard and tried not to flinch, being worried that he would soon be discovered.

“Yeah, let me take a look.” Responded Clayton. He silently moved his hand towards his belt. He placed his hand on the Great Ball adorning it. “Hmm, Mankey, come on out!” He said as he flicked his wrist with the Great Ball in hand.

“Mank!” squealed the Pokémon.

“Mankey, go scope around our camp, would ya?”

“Mank!” She leapt onto the tree, climbed up and started scouting the area.

“So, what did you want to talk about then? Do you plan to attend the simulation room back at the Outpost? I heard that Cameron is running the program this month. You remember her, right. Tall, blonde girl? Really attractive?” asked Clayton.

“…I dated her last year, remember Clayton?” Brent seemed to think that Clayton forgot that.

“No, I didn’t forget that.” Whew, Clayton got off easy with that one.
Adam and Mackenzie focused their attention on Clayton’s Mankey in the treetops.

In this ‘dream’, both Mackenzie and Adam could not interact with the surrounding events. Words and emotions did not catch the eyes of the actors in this presentation. However, they both could touch and feel the environment around them.

“Ma-ma-mank!” squealed the Pokémon in delight. She hopped off the branch and landed onto the ground before the startled Absol. “Mank…KEY!” She tightened her paw into a fist and swung it above her head in a circle. Mankey used Focus-Energy! Absol got serious and used a Quick-Attack to counter Mankey’s fighting stance. Mankey was knocked onto the ground and rolled into a bush.

“Wha—? Mankey, are you okay?” Clayton got up and looked around. “I thought I heard you, where are you at, Mankey?” Clayton noticed the bush was starting to shake furiously.

“Ma-ma-mank!” Clayton noticed Mankey was in trouble.

“Okay, this should take your pain away, my little friend.” Clayton pulled out the disc Adam noticed he took from Clayton’s clothes when he was defeated. “Zero-SD, GO!” Clayton flung the disc towards Mankey. Mankey was hit by the disc and it faded onto her. Mankey got up and soon a glowing, neon aura appeared around her. Mankey turned around and Adam looked at her eyes… They were glazed over with hatred and infuriation. Her coloration turned from tan to a greenish brown. The tip of her tail and her hands were a darkened brown. The hair on Mankey bristled outwards into stiff spikes.

The Mankey leapt off the tree and onto the ground. “MANK!” it screeched, pounding her chest and beating the ground. She jumped backwards and sprang forward with her fist clenched tight. *WHAM* Mankey smacked Absol on the side of his chest.

“SOL!” Absol let out a yelp of pain. Absol dug his talons into the ground and jumped up and dove towards the Mankey with his talons exposed. Right as Absol was going to make contact, Mankey dodged the attack by side jumping; she made a blur behind herself as if she had moved at super speed. She dashed forward and brought up her hands, crossed into an X. She kicked her feet several feet away from Absol and dove onto Absol, letting out a Cross-Chop.

“SOLLL…” Absol was hit very hard by that attack and its side was bleeding. It seemed as if Mankey’s attack struck with incredible force. The impact cracked Absol’s right shoulder bone in half; yet it didn’t break completely. “Solll…” he moaned, trying to suppress his pain. He looked at the crazed Mankey with a glaring look. Absol folded up his right leg underneath his body and stood on three legs now. He hunched over and then sprang up into the air. His claws extended again and his aim was now fixed on the Mankey. In a quick jolt, the claws caught Mankey’s fur on top of her head and gave Mankey a new hair trim. The hair flew off her head, but suddenly, new hair re-grew in an instant!

“Meh-meh-meh…” Mankey chuckled. Absol’s body was above Mankey and his chest was exposed for Mankey to make another direct or fatal attack. Mankey made this open opportunity to make a quick strike to Absol’s belly. She clenched her fist and let out a Mega Punch to Absol’s chest. The attack knocked the breath out of Absol so hard, he was sent into the air and landed on the ground, stirring up a dust cloud.

“Sol… *cough* Sol…” he spat out some darkened blood as he slowly rose to his feet. He stared at the demented Mankey, looked to the path of stones. He bellowed, “Solll…” and the wind was swirling around his body. He was getting ready to attack with Razor Wind to end this finally. Mankey was getting ready to brace the impact of the attack. Mankey crossed her arms in another X, shielding her body.

“SOL!” the wind was charged and Absol sent the spiraling whirlwind towards Mankey. Mankey looked at the whirlwind with a blank stare.

“Mank!” Mankey was sliced and cut all over her body from the attack. As soon as Absol sent the attack towards Mankey, he silently slipped away unnoticed…

---------------

“So,” Mackenzie started saying, “we now know what caused his damaged leg. It is weird that only one assault like that Cross-Chop had enough force to crack his right shoulder bone.”

“Yeah,” Adam replied. Soon enough, the environment melted into nothingness and shattered apart. Objects that were in the surrounding area had faded and everything went black. Mackenzie then faded and soon everything grew dark around Adam…

The Zero-SD is a name given to the Shade Disc that Clayton has. This device makes a Pokémon mutate its coloration to a 'Shining' appearance. However, some parts of a Pokémon will alter. When Mankey was hit by the disc, the radiation caused Mankey to have her hair become very bristly. Shade Discs are created by Team Mecha.

Several years back, before they started to become a threat to the military, they broke into the capital in the Sol District to gain knowledge into creating their own branch of TMs and HMs. By going to the Republican's research institute, they went as tour guests and slipped into the storage rooms and achieved data on the records of the TMs and HMs. They gained data AND a new member to their organization, but that person will show up later in the story.

When a Shade Disc is being synthesized, all of the elemental PokéCrystals are used (meld into the form of a HM, since those cannot break) and an added dose of radiation is used to give the disc energy. All those added PokéCrystals can cause a chain reaction when it is absorbed into a Pokémon and so they become more sinister and malicious when battling. Sometimes they fight with their instincts so well, their Trainers do not have to give them orders. They can predict their opponent’s moves and seek out their weak spots just by battling with them in a minimal amount of time.

Shade Discs can also hold information and encrypted data like on a CD. That encrypted data can be documented on a computer so that the user can review the information on what a Shade Pokémon has battled against by tapping into the user's Pokémon brain. Gaining that knowledge on what the Shade Pokémon has battled against, they can find ways to gain better advantages in battle if they capture a Pokémon that their creatures have fought. That will give them an upper hand in any upcoming battles.

Adam got Clayton's Shade Disc, but cannot use it at all. He knows that it holds information and he needs to get it to the Republican capital or to any military outpost he comes across. After the disc is examined, that is it. However, he might find a way to 'purify' the Shade Disc. When I mean by 'purify' (yes, this is much like Pokémon Colosseum and XD), he will get away the side effects that the disc induces on the Pokémon he has used it on; the sinister and malicious presence it brings upon a Pokémon.

Wonderful to see Chapter 3 up! And so, let me take the honor on being the first to review it.

After reading this chapter, I've gotta admit that while it was a bit shorter than the other chapters, I can definitely see that you've taken a lot of our advice into account (our being mine, Blingin_G's and mindripper's comments). I noticed that it seemed to flow a good deal better than last time, I don't think anyone will have trouble understanding the gist of the story. Plus, I totally admire your scene of entering Absol's thoughts. Very surreal! I love aspects like that in stories, being a bit of a fantasy/supernatural fan.

I really can't wait to read what Chapter 4 brings. It's coming along great. :D

Thanks Empress.

I re-added some new segments to the original chapters now and I have to 'revise' (add and change stuff around) most of the chapters with more descriptions and detail.

The Shade Disc is one of the new things I created for a Pokémon story. There are several other ones, including some weapons that selected Pokémon can wield. There's also going to be a nifty invention that is sort of like the PC in the video games, but I won't tell what it is yet. But it is used to transport 'stuff'.

Not a double-post; it's the fourth chapter.

Chapter 4: Back Down the Mountain

Adam was flailing his arms about while Mackenzie watched him coming to his senses. He slowly opened his eyes. Mackenzie’s face was in front his face.
She spoke, “You finally awoke, Adam,” Mackenzie said to Adam whom was dreary.

“Mackenzie, were you not there with me in the dream?” He said. He yawned again. She had her hands on both sides of his shoulders, as if she were trying to seduce him. “Um, Mackenzie, I don’t like this position I’m in right at the moment. It seems sort of…odd…”

“Oh!” She said. She started blushing vigorously in front of Adam. She then calmed down and said to him, “Yes,” Mackenzie stated, “we witnessed what Absol went through and how it was injured. Do you not remember? I sat by you right there.”

Adam was confused, “How did you make that happen? That dream event…or whatever?”

“Well,” Mackenzie stated clearly, “I guess you could say I have ‘magical’ powers.”

“Can you explain why you have those powers?” he asked. He started thinking that she might be a witch of some sort.

“In time, Adam, I will. But this isn’t the time.” Mackenzie closed her eyes for a few seconds and then reopened them again. “Adam, it seems that we can’t keep your friend, Professor Herb, waiting for you.”

“HUH?!” Adam was stunned with amazement, “how did you know about Professor Herb?” He was freaked out. Did she read his mind just now?

“I told you,” Mackenzie sighed, “I have powers.” She lifted up her pointer finger and wiggled it in front of Adam.

“Okay,” Adam took a look around the hut’s interior, “let’s fine some clues on why those goons were so aggressive and determined to stop us, let’s look around and see if there are folders with information about their purpose of being here.”

Mackenzie was delighted, “I knew you were on the right track of proposing that suggestion.” Mackenzie smiled big at Adam and her graceful eyes seemed to touch his soul. “Now then, over there, when I was being dragged across the floor, the man had a glowing box stationed in the corner of this room.”

“A glowing box? You mean a computer?” Adam glanced around the room, “which corner is it?” The room was lit dimly by the sunlight pouring through the window. Ekans again, hopped off Adam’s shoulder and slithered to the northeastern corner.

“It seems that your Ekans sensed warmth from that corner, Adam, after all, snakes can sense heat patterns, but you already knew that, right?”

“Yeah, I knew that,” Adam said while starting to blush. He held his hand behind his head and started scratching it.

Mackenzie made her way to the machine and placed her hand on top of the hard drive. “Aha,” Mackenzie said, “the machine was giving off heat, so no wonder your Ekans sprung forward and went to the corner.”

Adam then made his way to the computer and stood in front of it with Mackenzie.

Mackenzie pulled back the cloth covering that was on the computer monitor.

“So, Mackenzie, do you know how to work a computer?” Adam asked.

“No,” she replied, “I’ve only heard about what a computer is, because where I come from, they are more myth and talked about like stories. Do you know how to work it?” She really must have not known what a computer was then, he thought, but just a glowing box…, Adam thought to himself.

“Yeah, I do,” he replied, “it seems the computer was put on stand-by mode.” He pressed the button to turn the computer back on and the monitor button. It clicked, and the screen lit up slowly. It displayed mathematical equations and graphs. Adam then looked onto the lower part of the screen where the menu bar was. “I wonder what program they were using up here.” He then noticed that there was no Internet signal. “Hey, Mackenzie, can you walk outside the hut and see if this computer has an antenna on top of the roof?”

“Sure, but what does an antenna look like? Never heard of it before…” she said. Mackenzie was sounding like a grandmother who did not know anything about modern technology.

“An antenna is a metal rod that goes up, like a long reed of grass.” He told her. Okay, she must no ‘some’ stuff…, he thought.

“Oh, okay then. Be right back then,” she said as a response. Mackenzie walked over the fallen Mecha Grunt whom she knocked out and opened the door. She was gone for about three minutes and then returned. The shack was not that high. Only 7 feet high, why would it take so long? Moreover, for three minutes?, He thought again.

Mackenzie then reappeared suddenly. Adam did not even hear her open the door. She popped out as if she were Dracula…

“Sorry, Adam,” she sounded like she was going to give him some bad news, “I didn’t see a metal antenna on top of the roof. Why did you need to know if there was a metal antenna for?”

“Well,” Adam was getting ready to explain, “I needed to see if this computer had a connection to a local city or something. It is called ‘Internet’. It is used for looking up information and for communicating long distances. Since it seems that this computer does not have any communicating connection of any sort. It seems that there is no use for using the computer for anything. We will have to go back down the mountain.” Then an idea popped into Adam’s head. “OH! I almost forgot! I have the PokéNavi on me still! I’ll use it to communicate with Professor Herb.”

Adam whipped out the PokéNavi and turned it on. The screen lit up. It said, “LOOKING FOR SERVICE…” on its screen, then five seconds later it read, “CONNECTION ESTABLISHED. WHAT OPTION WILL YOU CHOOSE?” Adam clicked the ‘COMMUNICATION CALL’ option using the arrow pads on the PokéNavi. “WHO WILL YOU CALL?” There were two names listed in the selection, Professor Herb’s residence and Adam’s home. He chose Professor Herb on the selection. The PokéNavi lit up and beeped several times. It then contacted Professor Herb with his picture on a holographic projection that appeared near the blue sphere of the PokéNavi. The call was being picked up on the other line. Adam was amazed by the image; how could a small machine project a holographic image?

“Hello? Adam? Is that you?” said the Professor. Herb looked about in the screen left and right, as if he were actually there with Adam and Mackenzie.

“Yes, it’s me, Professor.” he replied. Adam felt nervous and was curious on how the Professor was going to reply.

“What took you so long to call me? It is almost 5 o’clock now!” he exclaimed. “Your mom called and asked where you were, so I told her that you had to run an errand for me up in the mountains. So, what did you find on your way up there?” he asked diligently.

“Well, on my way up here, I fought a wild Ekans and caught it. Then I heard some noise coming from another part of the forest and went to investigate.”

“So, what was the noise?”

“A girl was being attacked by two strange men. They had purple uniforms with silver ribbon designs on their outfits. I think that they were both members of Team Mecha…” He reported.

“WHAT? Team Mecha was up there?!” Herbert sounded shocked at this news.

“Professor, don’t worry, there were only two of them up there. I managed to defeat one of them while the other got away carrying the girl.” Herb then put his hand to his face as if he were embarrassed and astonished.

“Um, hello!” Mackenzie said while giggling. She waved to Herb.

“Hmm? And who might you be?” Herb questioned.

“My name is Mackenzie. Adam saved me from those strange men.” She stated.

“Hehe, that’s no surprise, my dear. Adam’s father was a strong military leader and Trainer. It’s in his blood.” Adam then blushed and then sighed by hearing this.

“Thanks…Professor.” Adam made an embarrass expression, “Oh, I also got a strange CD-like item I picked up from one of the Mecha Grunts. It looks like a TM or HM. However, does not look like any of the two I have seen. Do you mind looking at it when I come back, Professor?” he asked.

“Sure thing, Adam. Just come back in a hurry. Your mom is expecting you back for dinner soon.” The Professor reminded him once again.

“Take care, Professor, see you when I come back down.” Adam said as a farewell.

“No problem. You take care too, as well Mackenzie.” He then said while he directed his attention to her.

Adam shut off the PokéNavi and inserted it back into his pocket. “Well, Mackenzie, we better get a move on. You too Growlithe. Growlithe?” Growlithe was asleep on the floor. “So much for following my orders…” Sighing, Adam started to rub Growlithe on his back. “Growl-growl…” He yawned and his eyes blinked. Growlithe looked up at Adam, leapt forward, licking his face. “Yeah, yeah, Growlithe. Okay, we all are about to travel back down to the mountain path. So, come on you lazy bum, we’re heading off.”
Mackenzie giggled again, “Hehe, silly dog.” The cloth that was once covering the computer now was now covering the unconscious Mecha Grunt. As Mackenzie and Adam stepped out of the door, he asked her quietly, “You didn’t kill him, did you?”

“No,” she replied, “I shocked him into unconsciousness with my Shock spell. It’s supposed to drain his energy and put him into a state of ‘shock’, if you know what I mean.”

“Oh, I forgot you were still out, Ekans. I need to recall you now.” Adam said.

“Kehh?” he hissed. Ekans was still around Adam’s neck. He looked at Adam with his golden eyes in curiosity.

“Sorry buddy, but we have to get back down the mountain.” He said to him. Ekans nodded in understanding what Adam said. “Okay, buddy, return.” He said as he lifted the snake’s PokéBall.

Adam and Mackenzie made their way out the door to the shed.

Adam asked Mackenzie, “Do you think that man will wake up soon or not? I don’t want him to come chasing us anytime soon…”

“Nah, I say he’s out pretty cold. He won’t awake until night, I suppose…” She told him. Adam closed the door slowly and quietly, not to wake up the sleeping Mecha Grunt.

After traveling down from boulders along the pathway, the sky grew immensely dark and a low rumble of thunder was commencing around the mountain range. “Aw, it’s thundering now. I love thunderstorms, but I don’t really want to be caught up in one, even at this high of an altitude.” He complained.

“Hehe, don’t worry Adam,” Mackenzie replied, “I’ll do this on Growlithe, you and I. SHELLRA!” Mackenzie announced by yelling out. Her dress started to swirl around, but there was no wind that Adam noticed blowing. The air was thick with humidity. A shining light came up from around Mackenzie’s feet and went upwards. Adam felt a tingling sensation humming around him and he felt warmth. Then, a glowing green orb descended around Adam, Growlithe, and then Mackenzie. The orb smashed into all three and seeped into their skin. It was if that ‘magic’ had made some sort of shield by being absorbed into their skin.

“This’ll take a second as well, BARTHUNDRA!” She uplifted her hand again and a crunching sound of stones came about and engulfed them. “There,” she said, “the thunderstorm won’t harm us since we’re all at high elevations and we won’t get struck.”

Adam stared blankly at her and said silently, “What the hell are you…” Okay, she is definitely a witch of some sort, he thought.

“I’m a gifted girl,” Mackenzie said, “so don’t worry about me. Let’s just get back down the mountain.”

Adam, Growlithe, and Mackenzie rushed down the mountain as fast as they could, because the thunderstorm was starting to get intense. The vegetation of the trees darkened the ground. *FLASH!* a streak of lightning bolted downward and then seconds later…*BOOM!* crashed the thunder. Its crashing sound was so immense that Adam could feel his bones vibrate within his body. That huge bolt of lightning struck a tree several feet away from Adam. It was not raining at all, and the tree caught on fire.

“WATER!” Mackenzie yelled and she held her focus on the burning tree. Around the trunk, tiny beads of water appeared out of thin air. They suddenly grew to giant bubbles and then smashed into the tree. The water had enclosed the trunk of the tree and the fire was unexpectedly put out. Its bark was hardly burnt from that water that engulfed it…

“Let’s go! We have to get out of here!” Mackenzie told Adam, “The storm is starting to worsen!”

Adam looked at her and nodded at her with understanding face. “Come on, Growlithe!”

“Growl-growl!”

Suddenly, the sky was now pouring sheets of rain and the trees started to quiver furiously with the wind. The storm seemed to make the whole forest alive. The stones along the path became slippery with mud and moss. “Watch your step, Mackenzie.” Adam warned her. He did not want her to fall and injure herself. However, she could heal herself if she had the power to…

“I noticed already, silly.” She said in reply. They were just about to exit the forest. The trees started to thin out as the made it into the tall grass of Professor Herb’s backyard. However, a Chikorita suddenly appeared out of nowhere…

“Chicku!” it screamed. It’s body was shaped as a pear and had a light sea-green coloration. It’s eyes were a cherry red with a sheen upon them. There were green plant buds around its neck.

“Hey, could you please move for us?” Adam said nicely to it.

“Chicku!” it yelled back. It extended a vine from one of its buds and struck Adam on the arm.

“Hey! Don’t be attacking my friend, little miss!” Mackenzie said to it. Why did she call it a little miss? Adam thought. A ray of sunlight emerged from the clouds and descended towards the ground. The ray of light traced its way towards Mackenzie as if it had chosen her as the star for a play.

Shellra is a Final Fantasy spell that White Mages learn. It cloaks your ally in a protective barrier that reduces magical damage. For FFXI, it protects all of your allies in the radius of your character. In FFXI, you can upgrade Shellra to II, III, IV, and V. That only happens with either White Mage and only up to IV for Red Mage. Paladin gets only up to III of Shellra.

Barthundra is also a Final Fantasy spell, but it's exclusive to FFXI. It is also a White Mage spell. Barthundra cloaks the party members within radius against Lightning elemental magic. It's an Earth spell that reduces damage caused by lightning attacks. It lasts for a short time, though. However, Red Mages get Barthunder, which only casts upon themselves instead of all party members.

Shock is a Black Mage exclusive spell. It does continuative lightning damage while it lowers the Mind trait (in Pokémon, the Mind trait would be Special Defense).

Water, as its name implies, is a basic Black Mage spell that's of the Water element. It does so-so damage. When Black Mages become stronger, (and like Shellra II going up) Water will get upgraded to Water II, Water III, and finally Water IV. Yet, it can also be an Area of Effect spell (AOE), which hits all attacking opponents at once with high damage. Waterga is the AOE spell, and can be upgraded to Waterga II and III.

Like all of those magic moves (except Shock and Barthundra and Barthunder) can get upgraded in the upcoming time. Both in FFXI and with Mackenzie. She'll have to undergo tasks in order to learn more advance magic, either. She does, in the store, gain levels. She will eventually be in a more upgraded form later, but I can't tell you guys what it is. And yes, Mackenzie does fight against Pokémon and Team Mecha members with her magic.

Also, with the upgrade magic that she learns, the battling animation I describe with them will be more intense because they're more powerful. That's to be expected.

Hey there, Adam! Wow, guess I'm the first to reply again...anyway, the chapter's great as usual. Mackenzie's ignorance of technology is definitely unique and quite fitting for someone who has no need of it. It's also quite cute! *is still laughing about Adam having to explain the Internet* hehe.

The story only seems to be getting better by the minute, so I probably won't review as often, but I'll add my input when I feel it's appropriate. Don't even think about letting this fanfic go! It's got high potential indeed.

See ya until next chapter then :)

Chapter 5: Ambushed and Caught

The rain was now starting to lift up. Raindrops spat here and there onto the soil and soon enough the rainstorm ended.

“Adam, let me take care of this,” Mackenzie said. She dug her right foot into the ground, ready to attack with a spell.

“What? Are you crazy? Don’t you have any Pokémon with you to battle it?” he questioned.

“Nope, just watch how I battle.” She snapped back. She then focused on the Chikorita.

“Huh?” Adam was now clueless. He started scratching his head in wonder.

“Okay now, it’s time to fight!” Mackenzie held out her hands in front of the Chikorita.

“Chicku!” it growled at her. Mackenzie flinched back, and she seemed to lose her attacking opportunity.

“Take this…Ahhhh...FIRE!!” Mackenzie created a circular motion with her hands and it was taking a lot of energy. Soon, a ball of fire came in between her hands. “Gah!” she yelled as the fireball shot forward at the Chikorita with great force. It struck and Chikorita was panicking.

“CHICKU!” it yelled. Then it collapsed out of exhaustion.

“There, now there’s only one thing to do…Friend Ball, GO!” Mackenzie reached into her small blue bag and then held out a wooden PokéBall that was colored green. The ball popped open and a blue light encircled around the wild Chikorita. There seemed to be no electronic device inside of this PokéBall, only a glowing orb. The PokéBall itself was just wooden, not even the hard plastic that they are usually made. The wild Chikorita seemed not to put up a struggle once inside the Ball. After she was captured within the blue light of the Ball, it stood still.

Mackenzie walked over to the green PokéBall, held it, and showed it to Adam. “See this,” she said facing Adam, “when I don’t have any Pokémon with me, I usually battle them with my ‘powers’. I will tell you when the time comes, of my real purpose for being here, besides finding elemental PokéCrystals, and why I came here. I will do what it takes to help you on your quest to put an end to Team Mecha and I want to help you with another task; uncovering the origins of this continent.”

“The Elemental Eve Continent?” Adam questioned, “What about it? You mean there are unknown secrets about this continent?”

“Yes,” she said, “and I will unveil you more mysteries this land as well, including how Pokémon became to be.”

“Are you serious? Are you sure, you will not tell the Professor about this? After all, he knows a lot about this land as well, including the many different Pokémon species that inhabit it.” Adam questioned.

“No, I won’t, Adam.” She said.

“Okay, in any case, we have around 10 minutes left until we manage to get back to the Professor’s lab.” He told her and showed her the clock on the PokéNavi. It acted as a palm-pilot and showed the distance the needed to travel on the visor that it was equipped.

Mackenzie released the captured Chikorita from its green PokéBall.

“Chicku!” it squealed with delight.

“Wow, how did it get friendly that fast?” Adam was stunned.

“It has to do with the type of PokéBall I used. Friend Balls, for instance, makes the captured Pokémon friendlier.” She said back.

“Well,” Adam started to state, “I know of one type of PokéBall that was created from the capital nation of the Sol District. It is called the Luxury Ball. It has the same affect as the Friend Ball you used.”

“Right, but see here, this type of PokéBall that I have here was handcrafted by my grandfather, Grandpa Greenwood. He is an artisan and makes the handcrafted PokéBalls out of things called Apricorns. They look like nuts from a tree, and come in several colors. They are sort of related to the many types of berries that we find throughout our continent, it’s just that these grow in certain forests.”

They were starting to walk now at a slow pace. Down the hill they could make out the structure of a building; it was the Professor’s lab.

Suddenly, Mackenzie’s Chikorita was strangely attracted to Growlithe and flocked towards him.

“Chicku!” it squealed in delight. Could this mean that Chikorita fell in love with Growlithe when it first saw him? That must mean Chikorita is a girl!

“This is weird; I have to look at my PokéDex for this.” Adam said. Adam took out his PokéDex out of the left pocket of his shorts. Opening up the red device, Adam punched in the PokéDex classification number on Chikorita—152. The screen changed from its dull tan to a three dimensional image of Chikorita.

It spoke, “Chikorita, the Leaf Pokémon. A grass-type Pokémon that has a complexion of a pear. It has a large fan-like leaf on top of its head. This is used to seek out warm patches of sunlight. It can be seen sunbathing on sunny days. In battle, it uses its leaf to keep its foes at bay. However, it can also give off a pleasant fragrance, which could entice foes to come near it. When this is done, it unleashes a barrage of leaf and vine attacks.”

“Huh, I wonder what it says about breeding groups.” He then said to Mackenzie.

“I don’t get it why a grass-type would be attracted to a fire-type, though.” She then replied. Mackenzie looked at Chikorita who was cutesy-eyed towards Growlithe. He did not seem to show any interest in Chikorita that much.

“Ah, here’s what it says on breeding groups, Mackenzie. Growlithe is a Field group while Chikorita is a dual of Monster and Plant.” He said.

“Weird…” she replied again. She gave Chikorita a glare of embarrassment. She then sighed. “Well,” Mackenzie started saying quietly to herself, “She’s not the only one who thinks she’s in love.”

“Huh? What did you say, Mackenzie?” he asked her. Did he hear me? She thought.

“No! I said it is weird since she has fallen in love with Growlithe. That is all. He-he-he…” she said while blushing. Sheesh, that was a close one, she thought.

They were still walking at a slow pace with their Pokémon following behind them. Mackenzie then had an idea. “Race you back, Adam.” She said, smiling at him.

He grinned back, “Yeah, you’re on!”

They started running down the hill, with both Chikorita and Growlithe running behind them. The sky seemed to lighten up a bit. Misty blue patches of sky appeared through some of the clouds. The rain came to a very light drizzle now, ran spat here and there in a few yards of the other droplet.

The grass in the Professor’s backyard was 3 feet tall to the end where it met the hiking trail to the mountains. It gradually grew shorter when it was reaching his house. Herb had made a path in his backyard, made out of mulch from his backdoor through his backyard to the woods. It then met up with the hiking trail.

They made it to Professor Herb’s backdoor and then knocked. No one answered.

“I don’t think he’s near the back of the house. Let’s try the front.” She told him.

“Good idea, Mackenzie,” he said. They made their way around the front of the house. They saw a few Oddish in a vegetable garden to the right side of the house. Since they were nocturnal, they had their bodies buried in the ground with their leaves showing on top.

“Let me ring the doorbell,” he told her.

“Okay…” she said quietly. What? Can he not trust me? She said to herself again.

*DING-DING-DING!* rang the doorbell.

Adam put his ear up to the door to listen for footsteps. Sure enough, he heard them.

The door creaked open and Herb was standing there.

“Welcome back, my boy.” Hebert greeted Adam. “Ah, I see, you spoke this Mackenzie of, Adam. She is an adorable looking girl. Good choice.” He said as his greeting. He peered at Mackenzie and looked at her up and down. Then he gave his attention to Adam.

“Huh? You make it sound like I won her as a prize in a game.” He said. He started to receive a feeling that somehow that Mackenzie was as special as a prize in someway…

“Hehe, well, you did, Adam.” She said smiling towards Adam.

“Why don’t you two come on in, then, and we’ll talk about the information Adam has collected while up in the Whisper Mountains.” Asked Herbert.

All five of them, including Mackenzie’s Chikorita and Adam’s Growlithe, walked into the living room of his laboratory, since it was his house with the laboratory in the basement. Entering his living room, Adam and Mackenzie sat on the couch while Herb was seated in an armchair. Growlithe and Chikorita sat on the floor by their owner’s feet. Chikorita put its leaf that was on her head to Growlithe’s side.

“Chicku!” She squealed with delight. Her eyes sparkled red and pink with envy.

“Growl…” He replied in kindness. He looked at Chikorita and went along with it.

“So,” the Professor started out, “tell me what you have found up in the mountains.”

“Well, to make things short, I caught a new Pokémon along the way, an Ekans. When I caught Ekans, I made my way upward again and came to a clearing. I heard a bunch of screaming and yelling. It had appeared that Mackenzie had been assaulted by two Team Mecha Grunts when I arrived. One got away with her and I fought the other one…ending up killing him by accident in the process…”

“Huh? You killed a Team Mecha Grunt?” The Professor was shocked when he heard this coming out of an eighteen year old.

“I had no choice,” Adam said. “If I hadn’t defeated him or whatnot, I would’ve never been able to pass. I could not let him go; otherwise, he would have called for reinforcements… And besides, the other Grunt held Mackenzie as a hostage.” Adam seemed confident about what he just said, but realized that it was not the right thing to do…

“I see what you mean by that, Adam, but it wasn’t moral to actually kill a person, other than it being a bad guy.” Mackenzie spoke out. Her lavender eyes were fixed on Adam. He knew what she meant when she said this. It was not the right thing to do, but he could not let her get hurt.

“Yeah, that’s true…” he now felt ashamed. “Nevertheless, I saved you, Mackenzie. I couldn’t jeopardize you if I had not been able to get to you…”

“I would’ve been fine, and I’m thankful you came to retrieve me. That was a very noble act you did for me.” She said while blushing to Adam. Her attraction and cuteness was starting to get to Adam.

“Ehm,” Herb was clearing his throat, “can we get back on topic now? Sorry for being a bit brash.” The Professor was starting to get annoyed now.

“Sorry, Professor, it was my fault for getting off topic.” Apologized Adam. He now felt quite embarrassed, including that he was next to Mackenzie.

“No problem, please continue about your report.” The Professor mentioned.

“Well, right before I killed the Mecha Grunt, he was about to reach into his pocket to pull out something. Like a gun.” Adam said, as he started up talking about his report again. “Therefore, I ordered Growlithe to unleash a Flamethrower attack at him. I had Ekans out at the time and not Absol. Ekans sensed something hidden in that Grunt’s pocket. He slithered off me and went to the Grunt’s corpse. He dug himself into the ashes of where his shirt was and pulled out this metallic disc.” Adam pulled the shiny disc out of his pocket and handed it to Herb. Herb put on his reading glasses and examined the disc.

“Hm, I’ve never seen a disc like this at all. Cannot be a TM or HM. This device is something. Ooooh, Adam, see this at the bottom of this disc? It looks like a CD, but it is a device of some sort. Let me see this. Ah, it seems to have a wavy mark on this part of the disc. It seems that this might be both a disc and a device,” Herb got up with the disc in hand and walked over to his computer in the corner. He opened the hard drive’s CD compartment and slid in the CD. The computer’s lights lit up and the hard drive made a humming sound. The screen came up it seemed that the CD contained typed documents and scientific charts. Herb clicked onto the document with his cursor and the screen came up. The document was not labeled; and for a good reason too. If it had been titled, it would show that it would contain information for anyone to read. Since it had no title, it seemed that this document contained some private information regarding Team Mecha…

Part 2 of Chapter 5: Brent’s Wake up Call

“Gah, my head is throbbing…,” said Brent as he gain consciousness, “why hasn’t Clayton come back yet? How long does it take to deal with a simple brat with a weak Growlithe…wait, where the hell did that girl go?” He looked around the shack. “Damn that wench! She did something to me… That was weird. She did not have any Pokémon on her at all. Did she have some sort of machine that stunned me?” Brent got up on his legs and he started to sway back and forth from dizziness. “Whatever she did…I can’t seem to stand up. Huh, what?” He stared at the computer in the corner of the room; they used it?! “That little brat! How dare he touch my computer!!?” He flipped the light switch on the wall. The lights flickered repetitively and then stayed on. He gazed at his watch. It was 6:22 P.M. already.

His feet shifted on the dirt floor and he looked downwards. “Hey, there are two sets of shoe prints and a dog’s… That boy… Clayton did not beat that punk. That boy must have gotten past Clayton somehow and came to rescue that wench I took back here.” He then snickered and sighed, “I guess I had better go check if Clayton is all right.”

Brent walked out of the shack’s door and looked around the area. “Huh, it must have rained while I was knocked out. That will make it harder looking for foot prints…” He retraced his path towards the first clearing where he left Clayton earlier.

“What the hell is that smell? It smells like decayed flesh…” Brent said. He then spotted what appeared to be a pile of cindered remains of a human. “WHAT THE FREAKING HELL! NO! Do not tell me… CLAYTON! This cannot happen!! What happened to you?!” Brent then collapsed onto his knees facing Clayton’s remains. “That little *******… He’s going to pay for what he did!!” Brent looked at the pile of ashes. Clayton’s PokéBall was not there (PokéBalls cannot be destroyed but can be damaged). “He must have taken his PokéBall as well… This is it. I’ll have to call back to our base.” He paid his respects to Clayton’s burned body. “Sorry pal…” He took rocks and dirt from the surrounding area and covered up his friend’s remains. He then got up to his feet and turned around. The view from the mountain clearing he was at had a good view. The sun was setting and the sky had a purple to pink to orange color range to the sun. Brent made his way back to the shack. Opening the door, he made his way to the computer and sat down into the chair.

Picking up the microphone to his mouth, he spoke into it. “This is Brent, reporting,” he said while giving a sigh of distress, “I’m calling into the Mecha Base at Fort Edge. Hello?” he said while there was a small pause.

“This is Anne, from Fort Edge. What is the problem? Why the report?”

“Clayton and I seemed to have run into some interference. We spotted a young girl climbing up the mountain side,” he said.

“Are you sure this girl wasn’t just a mountain climber?” Candise spoke with uncertainty about that remark.

“I’m pretty sure that this girl wasn’t a mountain climber. She had a long floral dress and no equipment. Clayton and I captured her…although, this boy showed up.”

“Oh?” she said daintily.

“This boy had a Growlithe and Ekans on him. He was a Pokémon Trainer, whom Clayton and I thought was weak. Yet, that boy killed Clayton somehow. He might have had his Growlithe use a Flamethrower attack on Clayton, because I just found his body burnt to a crisp.”

“Damn, where were you when all this happened?” Anne asked.

“Well, when I took the girl back to the shack we had, she kept yelling and screaming. Then, something strange happened. Her body started to glow and I was stunned by some electrical shock.”

“That’s strange. Do you have any idea about her physical characteristics? Hair color? Eye color?”

“I didn’t get a good look at her eyes that well. I think they were a light purple. Her hair color was a golden orange.” Brent replied.

“Good,” Anne said, “I’ll tell some of the other members around Fort Edge to check the surrounding pathways for this girl. What about the boy?”

“The boy? He had dirty blonde hair and I did not see his eyes at all. From a distance, they looked blue.” He replied.

“Excellent…” Anne said, “We’ll see if we can find these two brats.”

“I would like to get them on my own, though…”

Apricorns make a comeback in this FanFic. You will, later on, see how some more Final Fantasy stuff becomes incorporated in the story later on.

By the way, as the story progresses, the chapters get very long. This is because that the main adventure's story has chapters that take up a full day. That's how the chapters are going to be written. So, it may take me awhile to write them. I'm almost done with 9, but I'm also making changes to the chapters before 9.

Hey dude, just read your new chapter you've put up here...whoa, Brent's found out about Clayton...heavy stuff, man. I can see the next chapters not being so lighthearted. But there's nothing wrong with that, I love a good amount of drama mixed in.

...Am I the only person left who reads this anymore? Come on! I know this fic had a slightly bigger fanbase than just me! Where'd Guitar dude and mindripper go?

It's here, it's near
Sorry for forgetting about this, I was just quite busy with stuff to review and all. Well, now it's here, my next review.

Gotta say it's a lot better. Your characters act a lot more emotional now, the descriptions a lot better. But heck the storytelling is powerful. I reccomend you stop doing this, crash, bang, wallop thing in the asterisks and start describing the sounds more. I reccomend you describe their inside emotions in story telling rather than just show it through their actions. But overall, great!

PS: If you don't add blitzball into this; I'm going to have to kill you.
