Pokemon Fanfiction Glossary

Tezza

Bird Master
G'day people! I'm working on a website for Pokemon fanfiction tutorials and Negrek brought to my attention that when you first enter the fandom there are so many words people use on a newbie that they get lost. Mary-Sue, Anywhere But Here fiction, scripting, purple prose and so on.

What words should be included and perhaps give your own definitions. I am looking for the definitions of all those weird 'shipping words I've come across, Eldershipping and so forth.

Also I also want to do summaries of the generic kinds of fanfictions people write. Things such Game Fics, where people use the games as a guide, XD fics where they follow the XD plot, Legendary Girl fics where a kid is chosen to befriend legends and excetra.

Thanks!

Good. *claps* Many people don't know what a Mary-Sue is.

Journey Fics: Where people go on any kind of journey.
Original Trainer Fic: Where the main character is a trainer.
Author's Universe: Where the characters from any story/anime/fiction is removed from their plot world and enter the author's made up one.

I can't be much help since I'm kind of new to this sort of thing as well. ^.^;

Good luck!

Crossover- Media where concepts and/or characters from multiple original works are merged and interact with each other.
Shipping- Supporting relationships, whether canon or not, between characters from any form of media.

There’s a whole forum in the Anime section of these boards dedicated to Shipping if you want to find out more about it and what specific ships are. Now, I don’t know how risqué you want this thing to be, but there’s also:

Lemon- A term applied to media, especially fanfiction, to describe that it contains explicit sexual content.

Author's Universe: Where the characters from any story/anime/fiction is removed from their plot world and enter the author's made up one.

...is it now. I've been reading fanfics for four years or so, and I've never encountered this definition. It's always been 'Alternate Universe' for AU. Is it just specific fandoms that define it as such, or...? It's true that I haven't much followed the Pokémon fanfiction scene.

Generally, Journey and OT fics are synonymous. Also, just because a character is a trainer does not make it an OT. An OT generally involves a character travelling around with a mission, whether it be collecting badges, stopping an organization, or whatever. It's very broad, and branches off into 'save the world' fic, possibly pokemorph fic, and so on; though, usually, it is just generic game-like travelling. And just to repeat it, OT and Journey fics are one in the same. -.-'

AU means Alternate Universe, dear. It's a fic that placs canon characters into different positions in their worlds or worlds which function under different rules, IE, an AU in which Ash is a member of team Aqua, or Misty is a model, or all of this happens, except on a planet with zero gravity or something. It's usually used as an excuse to horribly butcher canon and personalities, and an actual AU fic is pretty uncommon. Por ejemple, a fic that says, "This is AU because Ash is buff and Misty doesn't exist so he can hook up with May," is total crap. >.>

Yeah. That.

Clearly we're great!
Jossed - Fanon disproved by an official source or Canon.

I thought Jossed meant canon that was later contradicted, like Origin of Love and Truth.

Sorry to bump this thread, I thought some other people might have more definitions before I post it.
