Pokemon LEGENDS: Z-A - General Discussion/Speculation Thread

Det. Viper

That’s Detective Viper to you
Sony likes to support both the current and the previous Playstations. They've been doing it since the PS2 launched.
They actually back support for a while. In fact, the PS4 was out for a couple years before the PS2 game production and support ceased. With systems being supported longer they transitioned just to current and previous consoles. With the current cost of a home console, it makes sense to go with this business model.

My guess is the respective Legendaries would be at least part Flying type for Kaze and part Water type for Nami.
who knows

Sun and Moon legendaries weren't fire or dark types, we'll have to see.

Lord Godwin

The Lord of Darkness

Also Koraidon was not Rock despite it being the most Ancient type.

For some reason I'm expecting armored Pokémon.

Lycanroc inspired Zacian and Zamazenta, Toxtricity Koraidon and Miraidon so now Amarouge/Ceruesdge can inspire gen 10 Legends

My guess is that Generation 10 might get a little over 500 Pokemon programmed into the game without DLC.

Also, it's a little odd that everyone in this forum is talking about Switch 2 and Gen. 10 rather than about Legends: Z-A, which this forum was actually supposed to be focused on?

It's mostly because we know so little about the game. All we know is that it exists and it will take place entirely in Lumiose City. That's it. We don't even have gameplay footage so we don't know what time period this game is set in.

Pretty much we do have very little to go on. Though we also do know some of the Pokémon who will also be in-game. https://www.serebii.net/legendsz-a/availablepokemon.shtml . Your main point stands though.

Yeah, you can't help but wonder why Nintendo and the like are keeping their mouths shut about this game.

Technically we don't know why but my guess is they partially wanted to avoid the issue they had with legends arceus when they showed the first trailer with gameplay at a very early stage and it got some backlash as it was very limited. So I suspect they were waiting for the date they release main trailer and wanted in-game footage to be ready before they reveal anything concrete. Whether or not that was right idea to do will vary from person to person.

On top of that I would say it has to do with the Switch 2 reveal and coverage.

Feel like we'll get another next year teaser from them that is simply "Pokemon 2026, the next generation is in the works"

It could also be just the fact that in terms of marketing and release, GF do plan to release ZA later in the year, there for if that had revealed new Pokemon, forms or mechanics last summer. That would still be a year between revealing and releasing, which by then the hype and feeling of new would probably not be as exciting.

I just wish they showed the starters during the teaser(whether it was the Kalos trio again or another random set). That would have been plenty before going dark for a year.

That’s true. Lugia isn’t even part Water and is a Pokemon associated with the Sea.

I don't think there will be any kind of mainline release in 2026. I think it will be a gap year so that GF can be better accustomed to the Switch 2's more powerful hardware and to prevent the Gen 10 games from turning out in the same state as SV.

It’s Pokemon 30th anniversary next year, there not going to just suddenly make that a gap year when they can tie the gen 10 games to the 30th anniversary.

Do you want Pokémon to have its own equivalent to Sonic 06? The Switch 2 is much more powerful than they've ever experienced so they need the extra time to develop it.

Sonic is a Sega property so they didn’t have full access to the PS3 software which lead to the game being rushed. Part of that game’s problem was Sony not wanting to share the PS3 with Sega too early.

Pokémon is 100% a Nintendo exclusive property so I can almost guarantee that GF/TPC/Creatures has access to the Switch 2 software. So if they were to make the theoretical Generation X games they are able to optimize if to the Switch 2. If not, Switch 2 is backwards compatible and they can just develop the game for the Switch 1. There’s little reason to believe that this console would affect the Pokémon game release schedule.

That's not what I said, though.
I didn't said Z-A is not coming to Switch (something that was confirmed along with the game's existence). I said GF is not going to make an improved version for Switch 2, since the game being released for Switch will already mean it's going to be on Switch 2 anyways.
I understood what you meant what I meant was the same games were being made for PS4 & 5 despite 5 being able to play 4 games so GF making a Switch 2 enhanced Verison isn't necessarily completely out the question

It’s pretty safe to say that won’t make an enhance version of Legends Z-A for the Switch 2 as they would more likely want put the resources that they dedicate to an an enhanced version of Legends Z-A when those resources can better used for gen 10 and other future games.

Legends Z-A will just be made for the Switch 1 and the first main series Pokémon games for Switch 2 will likely be the Gen 10 games.

There not going to want waste time on making an enhanced version of Legends Z-A for the Switch 2 which would basically cannibalize the sales for the version of Legends Z-A for the original Switch when they can just let Legends Z-A come out just for the original switch and then have Gen 10 be the first main series Pokémon games for the Switch 2.

Also Pokemon doesn’t have to rush out a main series game for the Switch 2 to come out the same year as the Switch 2.

Heck if you look at the first main series Pokémon games for a new console always come out a year or more after the new console is released.

Do you really think Game Freak found out about the Switch 2 at the same time we did? lol

Do you not think they've been developing titles for the Switch 2 this whole time? I mean, what do you think 'Project Bloom' is being made for?

EDIT: With that being said, I do think Legends: Z-A and the Gen 10 titles are going to be testing grounds for 'Project Bloom.' Considering the project is said to be Game Freak's most graphically advanced title yet, I can see them using the Pokémon titles to flesh out certain kinks before applying it to 'Project Bloom.' Of course, that means we can expect a few bugs. Par for the course, really.

This may sound like a ridiculous idea, but what if future games would feature various cry updates for certain Pokemon? (I liked when they did Pikachu's for the games (except Pokemon Quest, Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet/Violet which used the Gen. 1 variation.)
