Pokemon LEGENDS: Z-A - General Discussion/Speculation Thread

This may sound like a ridiculous idea, but what if future games would feature various cry updates for certain Pokemon? (I liked when they did Pikachu's for the games (except Pokemon Quest, Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet/Violet which used the Gen. 1 variation.)

It's possible they could do that, but honestly I prefer the cry Pikachu had in legends Arceus. I've never liked the whole Pokémon saying their name (even in the anime). Some Pokémon have really cool sounding cries. It was fine when it was just Pikachu and Eevee but I wouldn't want them to do many more than that.

I'm excited for the updated Mega models! Maybe I'll end up liking some of them more!

Mega Aggron is going to look sick with the polished metal texture all over it.

I'm just excited at potentially using megas that aren't locked behind the post-game.
They could do it like in ORAS were while you get certain stones from NPCs or missions you can find a bunch of them scattered randomly in Lumiose City.

Or like in Legends Arceus, the Stones would just replace Arceus plates but on a bigger scale. What would be really awesome would be to have to unlock certain Stones to get one of the best ones (e.g. Mewtwo Stones after getting all Psychic and Fighting mega stones, Primal Orbs, Diance stone, Lati@s stones).

I would have to agree. I'd like to see Mega Beedrill in particular be early as Beedrill without its mega is quite low power with but the later that its mega is obtained the greater the likelihood it's in competition with another mega.

As someone who never got to use Mega because they just felt like cheating in XY (since no enemy trainer besides the Champion/Final Boss used them, so it was a broken card that only you could play), I really hope they give Megas to your enemies this time.
Dynamax never felt like cheating because it was limited to battles where your enemies could also do it.

I think it's likely every boss battle in the game will involve a brand new Mega Evolution.

The trick is we will not be able to mega evolve in those battles.

Not sure whether Legends: Z-A will do away that trainers that can use Mega Evolution are “special snowflakes” since that was a thing in XY. Since the games likely don’t have the shackles of needing every major trainer needing a Kalos ace, it could make their Mega the ace instead.

I'm hoping they will be a bit more willing to give megas when it comes to opponents. X and Y had enough megas to give most of the major trainers in those games a mega if they'd wanted to (they did not). ORAS added new options and ORAS also had a lot more Pokémon trainers that had megas and while some of those were in rematches it at least was a bit more open with it.

Hopefully we get the Megas that were being considered but then cut like Flygon and Jynx. Jynx definitely needs something to make it stand out and more viable in battle. It just always felt like something was missing. I think with the Switch being able to display more impressive graphics than previous handhelds, Mega Flygon could be a reality and actually work if there is a lot of details. And then add Mega Slowking and Kleavor just to round out their evolution families’ Megas.

its not that mega flygon was too powerful for the 3ds, its that GameFreak couldn't come up with a good design that wasn't redundant.

Jynx is one of those that has just been power crept over time. In gen 1 it stood out but now there's just a lot more ice types to compete with. As for Mega Flygon I think it could work with the right design and I'd like it to be the first Bug/Dragon. As for Kleavor I'll be satisfied if it is in the game at all even if doesn't get a mega.

That’s what I mean. GF can now create something that has a good design on the Switch that won’t be redundant especially with the existence of convergent and Paradox Pokemon.

That explanation always felt so tongue-in-cheek to me. I mean, I can't look at half the Mega we got, like Mega Aerodactyl or Venusaur, and truly believe "being uninspired" was a reason to cut some of the designs.

With that said, after the Teraleak revealed what Mega Jynx was supposed to look like, sometimes it's for the best that something never sees the light.

I swear they dropped Mega Jynx because of Disney. Frozen released a year before ORAS, now we could have just a "chicken or the egg" scenario here, or the artist was very inspired by Elsa.

Either way, on top of the Jynx allegations in the past, I feel like they did not have the time or desire to fix the design to be risk-free and simply scrapped it. As it did have stats and a ability already in the beta testing.

While it's hard to be certain I could understand them not wanting to risk upsetting Disney. Though It could also just be something as simple as they were not completely satisfied with the design and changed their mind last minute with the intention of revisiting it but never got round to it at the time and then plans changed.

I'm just hoping we'll get more megas for the Gen 5-9 pokemon (especially Kalos pokemon) since the newer generations didn't really get that much attention in X & Y

GF has plenty of time to change Mega Jynx’s design.

No doubt. That was more my guess at why it did not come out at the time. By now they could easily have refined it (if they felt it best) to a design they like and considering the cry and stats are already done it might be a massive time saver to have done so. It just depends on preference and what they need for this game.

Gen 6 in particular would make a lot of sense. I always found it a bit odd that it was only Diancie.
