Pokemon LEGENDS: Z-A - Recent Happenings Thread

Currently in a bit of a pause. I've got enough points to challenge Kyogre and Groudon and have since beaten Kyogre. But unfortunately I don't currently have the berries to challenge Groudon. Think I need some Hyper Haban Berries but my hyperspace runs have led me none recently. Still I have had some shiny luck with a Throh, a shiny Gastly, a shiny Galarian Yamask and a Shiny Mudkip and with all the mega crystals I am obtaining a lot of the TM's from the dodgy guy in ally. Does make me wonder what that guy wants with all those mega crystals but I doubt there is any explanation.

Aside from shiny hunting certain megas and pokemon I haven't caught, managed to shiny hunt Terrakion (heavy ball) and Virizion (Safari ball)

Fast update, finally got that Alpha Tyrunt (Now a Tyrantrum.) And I finally got the secret scan for Cobalion. Having to run back and forth in a blind spot just to see if a shiny shows up is NOT going to be a fun one. (still not as bad as Virizion's placement and nowhere as frustrating as what Latios is going to be.)

So far completed the DLC up to defeating Rogue Mega Absol Z, the catch is treated the same as Zygarde if you want it in a cool Poke Ball (opted for the Moon Ball).
From what I see, all Rogue Mega fights in the DLC work the same way, you are forced to catch the Pokemon after you defeat it, and it's a 100% guaranteed catch with any ball. (I guess they made it 100% catch because they knew you'd be softlocked if you failed the catch. )

Are you guys sure that Galarian Slowpoke, Farfetch'd and Yamask can be found in 3-star portals? I can't find them.
Yes, they can be found in 3-star portals, I know because I managed to find them and also got a shiny galarian Farfetch’d.

You just have to keep refreshing the portals.

Rogue Mega Tastsugiri was an easier fight compared to Staraptor which I caught in a Fast Ball. So far caught six shinies after getting the Shiny Charm, Magikarp, Fletchling, Binacle, Litwick, Zangoose and Meditite. Can already face the fourth Hyperspace Rogue Mega but going to work on catching all the possible 3-star portal Pokemon first. Now to decide whether to dump my Exp Candies on Scizor or Wimpod to get Golisopod (have both their Mega Stones).

Finally got Galarian Farfetch’d to show up. Now I’m only missing Pokemon exclusive to 5 Star distortions as well as armor for Armarouge. I’ve also yet to see Zeraora but I suppose I will stumble across it eventually. I feel like I’m still doing good without having to look up anything for the DLC yet.
Done a few more side quests of those requiring you to raise specific Pokemon. Some of the writing is decent but the dramatic pauses and slow zooms are getting really repetitive at this point. The Lucario one was giving me some trouble since Korrina’s Mega Lucario Z kept one-shotting my regular Mega Lucario. Ended up dropping the Mega and just putting on a Focus Sash instead which worked.

Doughnuts are good for altering what you find within a distortion in your favor but I really wish there was something in the lategame that could alter what distortions you get in general. Some sort of system that would make “Fighting type distortions more likely to appear” or along those lines. Would make the cleanup section of the DLC way less of a time waste.

Caught Latios yesterday.
Caught a alpha Mimikyu last night. Amd mam was that a grind. It did not want to be caught. Hardest capture yet for me. Thankfully I broke a floating pokeball and finished a task during the battle, so the game autosaved. So instead of pressing A and leave hyperspace and autosave when I got the message Hoopa ran out of calories, I turned off the game. And after that I kept leaving the game when I was down around 5 calories. After 30 minutes of not capturing that ghost in a regular pokeball, I threw a ultraball at it and finally caught it. So now I’m going to focus on actually training my Pokémon to get good, and doing sidequests for the next few days to avoid burnout. Casually training because beyond using items like protein I don’t know which pokemon gives what EV. I know hypertraining takes care of IVs so I do that.

I’m playing around with Mr. Rime, Anhilape and Mega Raichu X.
I have a really good Anhilape who singlehanded oneshot Lida’s lv 90ish team during a side quest without healing, and it can almost oneshot Jacinthe’s team without healing.
Raichu is pretty good too. Might use the lady in Rust Syndicate to reset its EVs and feed it a bunch of attack and special attacks if I feel it lacks a bit of power but for now its good.
Mr Rime is just used as a support Pokémon. It holds focus sash to not potentially get oneshot when I take it to ranked next season. Its there to set up stealth rock, reflect and light screen before I switch it out with Anhilape or Raichu.

Finished up the remaining Side Quests I was missing. Namely one involving using a Sawk or Troh, one for the "ultimate" starter moves, and one requiring spending 1M pokedollars. The first one wasn't that interesting, the only issue I had with the second one was the Meganium part since Meganium kind of sucks. I didn't have enough money for the last one(spent all my money on fashion when I initially put the game down) and finally got around to do the 5 infinite Z-A Royales I missed for The Jacinthe Tournament 0 which put me well over what I required. This also unlocked a gap in my side quest log for one involving Lebanne and a blackbelt,, which I completed immedeatly. The 1M coffee quest is one of those I really don't think should be called a side quest at all, it's just "buy expensive coffee for yourself" and nothing more.
Anyway the battle with Taunie afterwards was pretty good and I am glad there is finally another trainer using several Mega Evolutions since no other trainer takes advantage of the mechanic being timer-based and not once-per-battle anymore. I thought the scene on the rooftop afterwards was cute although I did feel kind of bad for admitting that Lida was my favorite sidekick.

Finally caved in and looked up how to get Zeraora, I had already purchased some of the bread but I have no idea how one is expected to figure out that you have to talk to a random NPC on a rooftop to start the quest, especially given how the DLC is really insistent on marking every other new thing of interest on the map no matter how insignifant. Maybe I missed a hint somewhere but if the intention is for you to reexplore the whole map for one single change then I think that's bad design honestly. I didn't really like the Rogue Mega fight that much, you constantly lose your lock-on and since the game doesn't let you free aim it's more a battle against the camera than anything else.

I also looked up G. Yamask's evolution method in case it was as ridiculous as in SwSh and I am glad I did because it is. Now the only things I am missing are Pokémon exclusive to 5 Star distortions, including Armarouge's armor. I was aware from the Pokedex that Rotom and Gimmighoul were 5 Star exclusive and I had a hunch the same was true for Frigibax and the remaining legendaries I am missing, which was proven true. Really not looking forward to it. I have nothing against a bit of grinding but grinding to me implies at least some incremental progress no matter how small, here you can play for hours and make no progress whatsoever since it's all RNG. I have gotten the Cobalion distortion but my 5 others so far have all been useless(2 Royales, 2 Rock distortions, 1 Poison distortion).

Just defeated Rogue Mega Meowstic on my second file. My goodness, that was the hardest fight in the game! You NEED Brick Break to deal with its Light Screen spam, and then I could never destroy the windows in time. I had to reset the fight and get a higher calorie donut because my Attack Power donut was only 895 calories and they rran out FAST. :(

I used Mewtwo with Nasty Plot, Dark Pulse, Brick Break and Recover but I still had to use potions. By Lord Arceus, Mega Meowstic is a MONSTER. O_O

Anyways, I need to farm lots of Hyper Rindo Berries so that I can stand a chance in the new four-star hyperspace zones. Considering how fast the three stars suck your calories I need really fattening donuts over 4000 calories to get everything in those four star zones. Also, since I know that there are two Mega Evolutions of Legendaries and Mega (spoiler) is even bulkier than Mega Meowstic, I am going to need a lot of help. :(

I had that issue with Mega Meowstic. Go**** cat teleporting all over the arena was impossible to lock onto and you need to lock on to use a move. Seriously, if there is one issue I have with the combat system, it's this. X(

Also...

I had been doubtful, but when Korrina outright stated that Ansha was the daughter of the Kalos Champion, I was a bit flabbergasted. Was Ansha conceived after Calem/Serena defeated her? That would make her about four years old! I think Ansha is eight years old and was born a few years before Calem/Serena started their journey. I wonder who the father is...

Made good progress in filling gaps in the Hyperspace Pokedex, still have yet to get a Hyperspace Wild Zone for G-Yamask though. Many of the level-up evolutions were done battling in the regular Battle Zones to get funds for Poke Balls (and vitamins if I want to level-up new members). Mega Meowstic is so far the only Rogue Mega I blacked out against since I could not find the knack to break the windows it sets up on time. Actually knocking its health was not too taxing using Yveltal to build up Mega Charge so I don’t expose Golisopod (it had Brick Break for the screens) to too much harm before it Megas.

Now readying up for another round of building up survey points and clearing newly available sidequests.

Battling & such

Been having fun in the game so far. My Totodile got into a battle with two Houndour and won. He was a bit under leveled tho. Around lv 14 to 15 to their lv 17. Was able to catch one of them. Named her Morticia.

Moved up to Rank X today. And one of my MVPs is Gary, my Ekans. He was just awesome.

Just caught 2 Abras. A bit of a pain, but not as much of one as Eevee was. I'm up to Rank W now too.

My team is moving into its 20s now. With some training of younger Pokemon in-between.

Gotta get better against fast Pokemon like Furfrou and Kadabra tho. Almost had my rear handed to me before taking down my challenger for Rank W.

Took down rank W challenger and Rank V one.

And faced off against my first Rogue Mega Evolution Pokemon. It was a challenge. It put up a good fight.

Trying to do some research on the Rank U battle. It's around nighttime in game, so I want to be prepared.

Been doing some more nighttime battling, building up a Ralts and my Croconaw evolved into a Feraligatr and my Flaffy evolved into an Ampharos.

Just love this game.

Caught some more Alpha Pokemon, including an alpha Spinarak.

Finally got a Riolu. A surprise alpha one at the last minute. This game has a warped sense of humor lol. It was raining almost all day until nearing sunset, so I had to be fast to battle and catch it.

Fought and beat Vinnie. It was a fun battle. Now moved up to Rank F.

Been doing some item gathering, Pokemon training and battling. Unknowingly battled against some Rank D people lol. Won against them too. Bought some mega stones as well.

Got the points needed for the fourth Hyperspace Rogue Mega, but held off facing it until I resetted for a G-Yamask Wild Zone (using the hotel shaves off a few seconds as it skips the Battle Zone activated intro). The boss ended up being Heatran which was relatively easy as it is essentially a stationary turret, only part that made me nervous was dodging its fire breath charged attack. Caught four shines while grinding for berries and running to side-quests, Pidgey, Aron and a second Pansage and Roserade. Now have about half of the needed points for the next story scenario.

That feeling when your mega Raichu decides its a good idea to not attack the Gardevoir you are fighting but volt tackle the direct opposite direction… twice even. I know my pokémon sometimes gets stupid in that small hyperspace park area, but my battle was in a hallway in a hyperspace battle zone… Thankfully it was only thet one battle. Usually Raichu is perfectly obedien.

Done various side quests. Including one that cost me a billion(?) pokedollars. I don’t remember the amount of zeros that sum had but it was extremely expensive.

Caught a Galarian Farfetch’d so now I have a alpha Sirfetch’d! Only need to evolve various pokémon and catch Rotom and some legendaries in 5 star zones and I will have completed both Pokédexes.

Oh I know the feeling, considering that sometimes when I order my Skarmory to attack something right in front of it in hyperspace it will proceed to fly in the opposite direction or go around instead of just attacking what’s in front of it.

Got the needed points and berries for the final “Part 1” DLC boss, Darkrai. It was not too difficult for Diancie, a tip for evading Mega Darkrai’s charged attack where it creates copies of itself is heading to the centre and spamming dodge rolls. The Moon Ball was my ball choice for Darkrai. Now comes the grind for the points to get the clues needed to face Kyogre and Groudon, did get the the last non-quest related Mega Stone I was missing (Glimmora’s) while gathering points.
