Pokemon Platinum In game team

New Member
Right, here is my team when I competed the game. But i am now thinking of going throught it again, I am open to pokemon changes and move changes. But i would like to have the HM's kept within this main team if possible. Will not be EV training this team at the moment. Also looking for suitable items,

;395; Empoleon - Torrent (Docile)

1. Surf
2. Ice Beam
3. Flash Cannon
4. Hydro Cannon

;468; Togekiss - Scene Grace (Serious)

1. Air Slash
2. Hyper Beam
3. Aura Sphere
4. Fly

;130; Gyarados - Intimidate (Bashful)

1. Avalanche
2. Strength
3. Waterfall
4. Bite

;466; Electivire - Motor Drive (Quirky)

1. Rock Climb
2. Thunderpunch
3. Ice Punch
4. Earthquake

;467; Magmortar - Flame Body (Hardy)

1. Flamethrower
2. Rock Smash
3. Thunderbolt
4. Psychic

;445; Garchomp - Sand Veil (Jolly)

1. Dragon Claw
2. Dig
3. Crunch
4. Cut

My changes and comments are in BOLD:

;395; Empoleon - Torrent (Docile)

1. Surf
2. Ice Beam
3. Flash Cannon
4.Grass Knot

Not too bad, but Grass Knot over Hydro Cannon. Avoid moves that waste a turn recharging.

;468; Togekiss - Scene Grace (Serious)

1. Air Slash
2. Roost/Thunder Wave/Flamethrower
3. Aura Sphere
4. Fly

Again, avoid recharge moves. Roost is nice for instant recovery, and Thunder Wave for status. Flamethrower is for additional offensive coverage.

;130; Gyarados - Intimidate (Bashful)

1. Avalanche
2. Dragon Dance
3. Waterfall
4. Earthquake

Earthquake is a must-have on Gyarados if you have access to another EQ TM. Have Dragon Dance as well, as Gyarados is easily one of the best Dragon Dancers in 4th Gen. Gyarados is practically invincible after a DD or 2.

;466; Electivire - Motor Drive (Quirky)

1. Rock Climb/Brick Break
2. Thunderpunch
3. Ice Punch
4. Earthquake

Nice moveset here. Consider a fighting move like Brick Break over Rock Climb, however.

;467; Magmortar - Flame Body (Hardy)

1. Flamethrower
2. Focus Blast
3. Thunderbolt
4. Psychic

I recommend Focus Blast over Rock Smash. Inaccurate, yes, but far more effective considering Magmortar's terrible Atk stat.

;445; Garchomp - Sand Veil (Jolly)

1. Dragon Claw
2. Dig/Earthquake
3. Crunch/Fire Fang
4. Swords Dance

I recommend Swords Dance over Cut. A +2 Dragon Claw or +2 Earthquake really rips through opponents. Again, get Earthquake if you have access to multiple EQ TMs. Fire Fang is for things that can resist both Dragon Claw and Earthquake (mostly Skarmory, but there might be one or two others).

Hope I helped.

I highly recommend you use HM slaves for your HM moves. Bibarel, for example, can learn most of the HMs you need.

And since you have completed the game, you have access to the Battle Frontier, which does give Earthquake TMs away for a certain amount of BPs.

After I finish training my Garchomp, I'll post a thorough list of my Platinum team.

My sig shows the six I'm using, but later tonight I'll describe them in full detail so I can hopefully get them rated..

BTW, I'm right outside Sunnyshore. Decided I desperately need a powerful ground type who can support my team's two main weakness's, Rock and Electric, before I face the last Gym and the Elite four.

Didn't think about him... Would've gone with him(since I never have used him, and I enjoy training new pokemon) if I had thought of him...but I've always loved Dragons so I'm good.

Gliscor seams the way to go if Garchomp is not allowed, like if your playing in a tournament.

;395; Empoleon - Torrent (Modest/Timid)

1. Surf
2. Ice Beam
3. Flash Cannon
4. Grass Knot

Hydro Cannon sucks, period.

;468; Togekiss - Scene Grace (Modest/Timid/Calm)

1. Air Slash
2. Flamethrower/Heat Wave
3. Aura Sphere
4. Swift

Swift is the only good Special-based Normal-Type STAB it can use.

;130; Gyarados - Intimidate (Adamant/Jolly)

1. Ice Fang
2. Earthquake
3. Waterfall
4. Dragon Dance

DDGyara set is better. And 81 Base Speed is quite fast, not to mention if it DD up, so Avalanche is pointless on it.

;466; Electivire - Motor Drive (Adamant)

1. Fire Punch
2. Thunderpunch
3. Ice Punch
4. Earthquake

Electric + Ice + Ground already covers everything bar Shedinja, iirc. So the last move should be Fire Punch, which covers Shedinja.

;467; Magmortar - Flame Body (Mild/Rash)

1. Flamethrower
2. Brick Break/Cross Chop
3. Thunderbolt
4. Rock Slide

I decided to give you a Mixed set.

;445; Garchomp - Sand Veil (Jolly)

1. Dragon Claw
2. Earthquake
3. Rock Slide
4. Fire Fang

Garchomp is your only Pokemon with a correct Nature lol
