Sure that could work among a few friends, but that wouldn't work on a larger scale, at least not to its full potential, mostly because a large chunk of the pokemon fanbase would be required to go out and find a used copy of RBY, not to mention at least a GBC or GBA.

If you have it already, great, if not, you're SOL.

Pokemon Online does have an RBY simulator with some players, and they may have tournaments if you play at the right time.

Don't hate on the link cables, they are perfectly sufficent :D.

And I would like these sorts of tournaments though unfourtunatly, unless its online it will never happen ;(
