• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Pokemon Regions..

I smash your Boxes.
I also would like my country (Indonesia) to be made as a region. :p

So much this.
There's some large potential variety in it, anyway, so it could fit well.

They got Orre to the north of Kanto/Johto, and maybe there could be something in the northern portion of the continent...so far we've had mostly self contained regions where you can see all of the land mass, but for Johto/Kanto you always knew that there was something more to them.
Orre is actually based off of the dessert in Arizona

Other than that, I would like to see a new region based off of Australia since there are many type possibilities they could use. However, maybe somewhere based around Russia or Canada, because lets face it, ice types need more love

True. Though they can make China a region :p
I could never, ever, forever never see a Pokemon game being released that would base the region off another East Asian country. Practically every East Asian country hates each other. Japan doesn't get along with both Koreas, and Japan and China have been at each other's throats since the Meiji era. Southeast Asia, however would probably be an unlikely but still very possible reality. Indonesia is possibly the best candidate as they are the biggest exporting partner with Japan out of all southeast countries. Another idea would be Vietnam, as Vietnamese-Japanese relations have been fairly good for centuries. However the main glaring problem with the latter is that it would probably not be well-received in the United States, as there are a great number of people who still have a distaste for Vietnam and the Vietnam War. Though they really shouldn't because it's the Frenchies fault in the first place for dragging us in that conflict to fix their problems. That and Ho Chi Minh City is UHMAZING.

For the "countries hate each other" reason, I guess there can be 2 regions in one game. One is Team (Whatever Name) and the other Team. Both hate each other. I don't know, my thoughts.

Though I would also like Mexico or Cuba to bemade as a region.

This. I might be a little biased here, but I'd say that Mexico would be great for a new region. You could get areas based on ancient Maya and Aztec sites. The legendaries could be based on Aztec gods like Huitzilopochtli and Quetzalcóatl. And Mexico has a huge biodiversity from where many Pokémon can get based. However, the shape of the country could make things a little difficult since it's very irregular, so I'd guess that you could just select a section of Mexico, such as the Yucatan peninsula. In that case, you could include nearby islands such as Cuba or even Jamaica (it's the Pokémon world! It doesn't have to be on scale). However, if the entire country or at least most of it is used, I'd like to see Mexico City as the central "hub" just like Lumiose (Paris) is Kalos hub. There are many terrains that can be covered, from dense jungle, through snow-covered volcanoes, to barren deserts...

I also agree that Australia is a great place for a region too, although I feel that just a section of it would be covered perhaps just Victoria and New South Wales, with a bit including Adelaide and another including Brisbane. Don't take offence, but Australia is mainly desert. Most of it's biodiversity (and population) resides in the southern areas, not in the Outback. A section of the Outback would be obligatorily included as it's also quite important, and part of the Aussie culture. I consider it as a good candidate, and I'm sure a region based there would be really fun to explore.

Finally, I'd like to say that I'd also like to see Game Freak doing Japanese regions again someday, but I'll be fine if they decide to keep doing regions with other countries instead. If they ever did Japanese regions again, I guess Shikoku would be the next new region. When the 5th gen came, I was expecting them to use Shikoku as their base for the new region. I was surprised when I first saw a map of Unova. It took me a while to realise that Unova is based on New York, since it's far from being geographically accurate, unlike the previous regions which are almost exact copies of their respective Japanese regions. Kalos is much more like France, both geographically and aesthetically. The main difference is that, while France is the Hexagon, Kalos is the Pentagon :p ... ok, that was a bad joke...

They could make an amazing and interesting region out of anywhere in the world. That is the great thing about the Pokemon world.

I would love to see a region based off Egypt, Australia, or Brazil.

Egypt due to the fact they can make a fire-type owl pokemon based off Ra, which would be awesome. Plus the desert terrain and that one elongated river would make for some interesting storyline.

Australia mainly because I just want a platypus pokemon.

Brazil like someone else said, climate and geography of the place is pure fantastic pokemon material. The amount of undiscovered bugs in the Rain forest is actually really good for creative ideas, not to mention the fact that it wouldn't have that much sea routes, but a ton of lakes instead. Lakes > Sea Routes.

Although I would like to see parts of Mexico, Austrailia, and Africa become the next pokemon region. It would be interesting to see how Gamefreak can do when it comes to doing a region based off of Canada. My guess would be Somewhere in Ontario since it does have a fair amount of biodiversity and plenty of water. Since its far north than New York *cough* Unova *cough*, I can see a possibility of new ice types.

Russia would also be a good candidate as well, especially since part of the Sinnoh region is actually Russian territory. It would be interesting how they can have a further connection with Sinnoh

I'd like to see more of the U.S. be explored, and I want some Canada. I feel like they should do a kind of elongated region, starting from Canada, and working your way down along the West Coast, with the major city being based off of Los Angeles. It would be nice to get some Ice Pokemon in the beginning rather than later. And there would be a large gate when crossing the U.S. and Canadian Border.

Iceland and Greenland have come across my mind as well.

I'd love to say canada but that will never happen especially after Kalos with the Eiffel Tower since the CN tower is all we got in terms of big things, the rest would just be beauty, but would resemble Kalos too much e.g., the east coast being like the west of Kalos.

But as navarch said a combined U.S and Canada would be sick... The Canova region lol

How about something like Hawaii? Anything close to the ocean would be awesome. Plus, I love water pokemon. And maybe they could bring dive back...you know, when it was cool.

How about Peru? South America hasn't been touched, and given Macchu Pichu, the Nazca Lines, and other amazing landmarks, as well as the varied landscape and culture, would make for a wonderful setting for Pokémon.

this is good. jungles would be a warm welcome to the mix.

Sea routes aren't very well accepted around here though, but I'd love to be able to dive again.

I think something from an Amazonian country would be neat. The major size of the Amazon alone could serve as a region, but they could include various country's with beaches all around it. If they did one based off the Amazon, maybe they could finally bring Mew into the game as a non-event legend, because in R/B/G/FR/LG with the Cinnabar island mansion there were all of those diaries with details of mew being discovered in the amazon.
But I would also like to see a region that is more dedicated to one type of land feature, but with a few small changes. Like if they did the Amazon, they could make it mostly a jungle region but have a couple mountainous areas, a few islands and maybe a modernized half of the region.
Kind of going on the idea that half the region is populated, but the other isn't due to the large overgrowth of both pokemon and jungle

Well, routes with nothing but water problem with Pokémon Ruby can be improved by making a region with mostly water which has a lot of islands with useful stuff on them. Like a shot, a gym, place to train or stuff like that.

I don't think the main problem with the water routes is just the fact that they had mostly water. The main issue is the fact that they had nothing useful like islands with great stuff.

Believe me, I know what hoenn looks like, and I guess that's kind of what I mean in terms of separation.
I don't want the map to be big enough to fit just on the screen though, maybe if the screen could scroll to a whole other area, kind of like in G/S/C/SS/HG with johto and kanto, or like in FR/LG having a ship system to sail you to either another half of the region or to an old one
the ship system would be a neat idea though. If it was in the amazon, so south America, maybe they could have an area like the Galapagos islands to sail to with pokemon preserves and really rare pokemon,, since that's basically what the islands are for (except they don't have pokemon...)
