Resistance Initiation Day
Pallet Town
Vincenzo "Vinnie" Bimbi

Lightning streaked across the pitch black sky, illuminating the small area just South of Viridian City known as Pallet Town. The sun was nowhere in view, despite it being the early morning. Thunder roared and a tired Vinnie began to awake. He cracked open his eyes and saw the stormy weather. He groaned and turned over in his bed, attempting to fall back asleep. The thunder crashed louder this time, loud enough to fully wake Vinnie and cause him to jump right out of his bed. Slowly, he moped over to the light switch and flicked it on. Lamps snapped on and Vinnie squinted his eyes in response. Ever so slowly, he dragged his seemingly lifeless body downstairs to find something to eat. Along the way, he managed to trip over his backpack which he had carelessly left in the hall the night before.

"I knew I should've went to bed earlier," Vinnie complained to himself, creeping down the wooden stairs that led into the kitchen. Upon arriving in the kitchen he proceeded to eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast along with a glass of juice. Once again, he headed towards the stairs and began to walk up them. As he reached the top, a hand placed itself on his shoulder. Vinnie jumped back, almost falling down the steps. It was not the intruder Vinnie had thought it was, but simply his father.

"Vinnie, you're going to be late! It's ten-thirty! You need to be there by eleven!" His father exclaimed, as he hurried down the steps. "Get your things packed now!" Vinnie obeyed and proceeded to his room. He grabbed the backpack off of the messy floor and began to quickly pack it, as he now realized, the predicament he was in. Pokeballs, deodorant, clothes, books, a wallet, and several other odds and ends were shoved into the small army green backpack. By the time he was done packing, the bag looked about to burst. Vinnie quickly got dressed into his shorts and t-shirt and snatched his Pokeball containing Sparky off of his dresser. Vinnie shoved his glasses on his face, put on his watch, and swiftly donned his hat.

"Bye mom, I love you!" Vinnie shouted as he ran down the steps, backpack in tow. His mother came out of the room and dashed after him. "Son, wait!" She called. Vinnie stopped and turned to his mother. By now his younger sister was also awake and trotted down the steps. His father observed him from the kitchen table. Then his mother spoke. "Please be careful Vinnie. It's very dangerous out there," she said, tears beginning to form in her eyes. Vinnie hugged his mother and nervously walked toward the front door. A moment of silence occurred, and the family all starred at each other. There was no need for words, they were all thinking the same thing. A blast of thunder brought them back to reality and Vinnie dashed out the door into the pouring rain.

Professor Oak's Laboratory

Vinnie burst through the lab doors, panting and out of breath. After all, he had just run quite a ways from his home in a terrible storm. His clothes were now drenched and Vinnie felt quite uncomfortable. Great... he thought. Now I'm stuck in these soaking wet clothes. Suddenly, an older man looked his way and motioned for an aide to escort Vinnie. A man in his mid thirties walked over to Vinnie. He wore a white lab coat and reflective glasses. "Please follow me this way," He spoke in a rather monotone voice. Vinnie followed the aide through main hallways and observed the doors with odd labels. "Evolution Studies", "Genetic Tests", and "Artificial Pokémon" were just some of the many rooms that they swiftly moved passed. The aide stopped in front of a large steel door at the end of the hallway and began to grab a key from his pocket. However, Vinnie bumped into him, as he was too busy observing the lab itself. "I'm sorry," mumbled Vinnie, his voice somewhat sleepy. The aide glared back at Vinnie and continued to open the large doors before them.

"Please, step inside. You will wait here until the other new recruits arrive," said the aide as he motioned for Vinnie to move forward. The room that he thought would be spectacular was actually very bland. The walls were pure white, as well as the two couches and several chairs and tables. About the only lively objects in the room were a small fountain and a pair of small plants. The aide began to leave the room, but suddenly spun around and headed back towards Vinnie. "Here you go, it's a list of the other recruits that should be within your group," the aide said. He then promptly spun around and exited the room, leaving Vinnie alone to think for a bit.

"Let's see," he said, glancing at the list. He moved his finger along, attempting to find the group with his name. "There it is!" he exclaimed. A look of nervousness appeared over his face. "Holly, Perrine, Katrina," he whispered to himself. Why did I have to get stuck with a bunch of girls! He angrily thought. Why do I always get so nervous around them? Oh this is going to suck. Vinnie glanced at the list once more and a sigh of relief appeared over his face. Well, at least another guy, Cristiano, is in the group. I just hope he isn't a jerk. He reached into his pocket and grabbed the Pokeball containing Sparky. He tossed the ball into the air and out popped the small Joltik after a brief white flash. Sparky climbed onto Vinnie's head and calmly sat there. "Well little buddy, guess it's just me and you for now," he said, chuckling at the playfulness of the little bug. Vinnie's solitary was interrupted by the sound of two pairs of footsteps approaching the door. They stopped and the handle began to open. Well, here's the moment of truth. Vinnie thought, removing Sparky from his head.

Holly Tempest
Route 1
8:30 AM

Holly awoke with a start as lightning flashed and a loud boom of thunder was heard. She jumped up but tripped over the sleeping bag which was still wrapped around her body. She tried to throw her arms out, but those too were in the sleeping bag, and she landed on her face instead. Meanwhile, her Treecko who had been sleeping soundly, was now running around the tent, startled by his trainer's wild movements. With a groan, Holly crawled out of the sleeping bag, stood up, and rubbed her face. She pulled on her blue hoodie, and tightly wrapped the hood around her head. She sat, calmly listening to the pitter-patter or raindrops falling on her tent, then tied her shoes, and packed up as much of her stuff as she could without going out into the rain. She unzipped the tent and stepped outside, then closed it up again quickly so no rain could get in. She rolled up the tent and packed that in her bag as well. The blue-eyed wood gecko jumped to her hip and entered his pokeball since he wasn't enjoying the rain as much as his trainer. The girl set off quite calmly towards her destination, Pallet Town, ignoring the thunder and lightning but enjoying the rain.

Pallet Town
10:45 AM

Holly shook her hoodie to brush some of the rain off it as she took her first step into the small town. It was just like it had been described to her, with mostly grass on the ground instead of pavement, though there was some of that as well. There was hardly anybody outside, and not very many buildings, even compared to her own hometown of Fortree. She easily found the laboratory she had been told to go to among the other buildings of the town. She stepped very calmly inside and a man came to greet her. He motioned for her to follow him, but she politely asked to use the restroom before continuing. She entered the bathroom and changed out of her soaked clothes. She replaced everything with an exact copy, except for her shoes which she simply dried and her sweater which she left off as she considered this to be a special enough occasion to warrant a very slightly more formal appearance, because a t-shirt isn't really much better. She left the bathroom with all of her wet things in a separate pouch of her backpack after having dried them as well. She felt rather exposed without her hoodie, but she smiled and went along with the man after thanking him. She looked to either side of the hallway they went through, noticing some interesting topics such as "Cloning research", "Fossil restoration", and "Held-item research lab". She waited for the man to unlock the door at the end of the corridor and thanked him as he let her through and gave her a slip of paper without explaining what it was. She examined the slip and saw her name on it, as well as a few others. There was only one other person in the room, a boy about her age. She looked him over and especially noted that he had some hair on his face which made him look older and his almost dripping clothes. She felt her cheeks get a little red as she remembered she didn't have her hoodie on.

"Um, h-hi..." She says quietly from halfway across the room and waves shyly. She takes a few nervous steps forward, and at the same time hears steps coming from behind the door.

Kat Becker
Viridian City
5:30 AM

Kat stood in the pouring rain. Her mother stood in the doorway. "Honey? Are you packed and ready? Did you get enough sleep?" she asked.

Lightning flashed, and thunder shook the ground. "I'm fine, Mom," Kat said emotionlessly, "I have to do this."

"Can't you wait for the storm to pass?"

Kat bowed her head. "No." And without saying another word, she started to walk away.

"W-wait! Katrina!" her mother cried, dashing out into the rain. "What if... what if you don't come back?"

Kat looked back to look at her mother. Tears were streaming down her mother's cheeks. She looked forward again, and sighed. "If I don't come back, no one will care."

"I care about you, Katrina..." her mother said, trying to manage her windblown hair. "Your step-father cares about you to-"

"I don't care!" Katrina shouted. "No one else cared! I've been alone my entire life!" She turned around to face her mother. She could feel Link put his hand on her shoulder as she continued. "You should know how this feels! I mean, Dad left you with nothing! Well, I've had no one! I've had my imagination to rely on. I'm done!" And with that, she ran to Route 1. The last thing she heard of Viridian was her mother screaming her name.

Onto Route One...

Although Kat's hair naturally fell over her right eye, the rain made it worse. She looked up at Link, who was walking close behind her. She scratched his furry belly, and giggled. "Are you ready, Link?" Link roared. Kat laughed. "Me too! I can't wait." She skipped through the rain, splashing in every puddle. From her imagination, another character appeared in her vision. A tall, slender woman, wearing a pink t-shirt and overalls. Her hair was a long blonde, matching her pale skin tone. "Kelly!" Kat said, waving at her friend.

"Hey, Kat!" Kelly said, smiling as she twirled around. "I heard you're joining a resistance?"

Kat nodded. "Yep!"

Kelly stopped. "Why? What if you're ridiculed again?"

"Well, none of these people know me. If I keep you guys hidden... maybe I can escape torment."

Kelly nodded. "I hope your plan works." The two skipped off again.

Professor Oak's Lab

Kay walked through the doors, silent and dripping wet. She looked up to see a man in a white lab coat approach her. "Follow me, please," he said. Kat nodded. The man started to walk down a hallway. Kat obediently followed, noticing the labels on the doors. He took her to the end of the hall, and unlocked a door. He let her through, and gave her a slip of paper with names on it. Kat walked in at quietly sat down. There were two other people in the room, a boy and a girl. She looked down at her feet. Crap.

"Um, h-hi..." A girl said quietly from halfway across the room and waved shyly. She took a few nervous steps forward, and at the same time heard steps coming from behind the door.

Nervousness seized Vinnie and his face froze. "Oh, um, h-hey there," he stammered. It just had to be a girl didn't it! He thought to himself. He slowly rearranged himself on the couch, allowing for the girl to sit beside him. "I'm Vincenzo, but you can call me Vinnie," he said, looking down at his shoes. Vinnie didn't know what to do. he had never been alone with a girl, and the setting quickly became awkward. Sparky hopped off of the couch and scuttled over to the girl, observing her. The small bug them jumped on her leg and crawled up her body until he rest on her head.

"Sparky, d-don't do that," Vinnie scolded, looking around the room. No matter what, he couldn't look the girl in the eyes and talk to her. He slowly got off the couch and walked over to the rather quiet girl, picking Sparky off her head. Quickly retreating to the couch, he tripped over his shoelace, and fell face first into the ground. Great, now she'll think I'm a fool. Huh, where's Sparky? Vinnie looked up and saw that his Pokémon had wound up being thrown into the small fountain, and that it was now quite upset at being covered in water. He dashed over to his little friend, and the door opened as he did so.

Yet another girl entered the room, but this one was short compared to the first girl who towered over Vinnie. Vinnie now stared in embarrassment at the girl, his face turning red. The young boy quickly grabbed Sparky out of the fountain and attempted to dry him off with his soaking wet shirt. "Th-this doesn't usually happen'" he tried to explain to both of the girls in the room. "By the way," he continued, facing the shorter girl, "I'm Vinnie." Vinnie then pulled his Pokeball from his pocket and Sparky disappeared into it in a red beam. He headed back to the couch and sat down, awaiting the girls to speak to him. I wonder if either of them are in my group. I better ask them something, but what? Think Vinnie think! You can do this, you can do this. After a few silent moments Vinnie spoke once more. "So w-what are your names? Are either of you Holly, Perrine, or Katrina?" He asked them, finally building up the courage to look straight at them.

Approximately 10:52

In the sixty seconds between the moment she first heard footsteps in the hall and when the door opened, a plethora of things happened. First, the boy who was in the room spoke to Holly and sounded just as nervous as she was. And then he told her his name, Vincenzo. He also told her his nickname, which she was careful to memorize, as she wasn't sure she could properly pronounce his full name. She had been about to introduce herself when a small yellow bug scurried over to her and began climbing her without restraint. As it passed her waist, the pokeball containing her grass-type popped open and the pokemon began climbing his trainer as well. She stood perfectly still, save her eyes, which were following Vinnie's pokemon. From the tingling on her skin, she deduced that it was an electric-type, though she wasn't familiar with the species. She smiled at it as it passed over her face and got on top of her head. This provoked a reaction from the boy, who crossed the room and picked the pokemon off her head. As he hurried back toward his seat on one of the couches, he tripped and fell flat on the floor, and his pokemon flew through the air and landed with a small splash in the fountain. She giggled a little, and started to go help him up, but the boy had already gotten to his feet and dashed to the fountain where he retrieved his pokemon. It was at that moment that the door swung open again and another girl walked into the room and immediately sat down without really doing or saying anything. She too seemed quiet and shy, and Holly was beginning to wonder if they would all be like that.

"Th-this doesn't usually happen." Vinnie said, and Holly looked back at him. He introduced himself again, recalled his pokemon and went to sit down. Holly still hadn't said a word since she first entered the room, and she was quite happy with that situation. She realized she was the only one still standing and went to sit down on another couch. Her small green friend sat next to her, curiously looking at the other two people in the room, though being oddly quiet. She was startled as Vinnie spoke again, and her eyes flitted back over to the boy. She realized with embarrassment that she had completely forgotten about the list, which was still in her hand. She looked it over once, taking note of the other names on it. Vinnie's was, so she nodded and looked up from the list.

"Um, y-yeah... I'm Holly. I-it's nice to meet you, and s-sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier," she said quietly and glanced over at the other girl in the room. I wonder how many groups there actually are. I wonder if all the groups are this small, she thought to herself. She refocused her eyes and actually looked at the other girl. She was nearly a foot shorter than Holly, and a few inches shorter than Vinnie. She had long blond hair that flowed down behind her back and was very pretty. Despite the fact that the girl had not yet spoken up, Holly felt sure that she was one of the popular kids in her town, wherever that was. Holly dug through her backpack, and pulled out a pen. She put a little checkmark next to Vinnie's name, and crossed out her own. She then added a little number. A one in front of Vinnie's name, and a two in front of her own, to mark in what order they arrived.

Kat looked up to see the boy talking. "Th-this doesn't usually happen. By the way," he said, facing Kat, "I'm Vinnie." He sat down on the couch, attempting to dry off what looked like a pokemon. A few silent moments passed before he spoke again. "So w-what are your names? Are either of you Holly, Perrine, or Katrina?" Kat looked at the boy. He looked a little bit taller than her, and had dark eyes and even darker hair.

The other girl then spoke up. "Um, y-yeah... I'm Holly. I-it's nice to meet you, and s-sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier," she said. Kat's eyes floated over to the girl, who was now sitting on another couch. Katrina giggled a little bit. These people seem... sort of like me? Maybe... friendly? she thought.

"Aren't you going to introduce yourself?" Link said, behind her.

"Yeah! I know socialization hasn't gone well in the past, but this is a clean slate!" Kelly added.

I was going to do that now! she shot back in her mind. She looked up and smiled. "Kat..." she said nervously, "My name is Kat. It's... nice to meet you." From her bag, a red light zapped out, and a red fox was left curled up on the floor. Ninya yawned, stood up, and jumped onto her trainers lap. "Vulll..." she said, greeting the other pokemon. "This is... my vulpix, Ninya..." Kat said, her eyes floating back to the floor.

"Um, y-yeah... I'm Holly. I-it's nice to meet you, and s-sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier," The tall girl spoke, glancing around the room. Okay, at least one person has arrived. Vinnie looked at his list, crossing out his name, along with Holly's. He placed the list on his lap and began to twiddle his thumbs. He had no idea what to do in a situation like this. He didn't know how to talk to girls or even what to say. Vinnie lifted his head and looked towards the second, much shorter girl who had just giggled. She appeared to be deep in thought when suddenly she said, "Kat, my name is Kat. It's... nice to meet you."

Kat... that must be short for Katrina. He picked up his list once more and crossed out the name. As he was doing this, the door to the room opened again, and a group of five teenagers of carrying ages entered the room. They moseyed over to the far side of the room, away from Vinnie and his group. A tall red-headed boy in the group talked above the others, "Listen up you chumps! I'm in charge here, and what I say goes!" Vinnie shuddered. He was sure glad someone like that wasn't in his group. His thoughts then returned to the yet unknown group members. Hopefully this Cristiano guy isn't too rude.

"Well, it's nice to meet you too," he responded to Kat, looking at his shoes. The boy picked his head up and asked intently, "Do...." What do I ask? What do I do? Um, let's see... that's it! Pokémon! "either of you have any Pokémon?" I'm so stupid! Of course they have Pokémon. They wouldn't be sent here without any. All the while, Vinnie's face became redder each second and his eyes glanced around the room. He began fiddling with his hands in his pockets, as he was becoming even more nervous. Hopefully he could soon get his act together and be rid of the awkward air.

The other girl eventually spoke up, introducing herself as Kat, and her Vulpix, a species Holly recognized from the beginning of her journey away from Cerulean, as Ninya. She checked off and numbered Kat's name, which she guessed to be Katrina. As she realized that the two people she was sharing the room with were just as shy or even more so than her, she relaxed a little. Although she hadn't heard people walking up, the door was suddenly pushed open and a small group of teens came in. A red-headed boy even taller than her loudly insulted them all and told them that he was in charge, then he and his group went and huddled into a corner, no longering occupying themselves with the three people in Holly's group. Holly, who had gotten a little more comfortable, was now just as ill-at-ease as she had been moments ago. Vinnie spoke up again, welcoming Kat just as Holly started to wonder when the other two people in their group would show up.

"Do... either of you have any pokemon?" asked Vinny, who then blushed and looked down. Holly understood why he was embarrassed, even though it would have been a perfectly valid question in nearly any other situation. She bit her lip, and glanced over at Katrina.

"This is Treecko. He's, well, a Treecko." Holly said quietly. The pokemon in question waved enthusiastically at Vinnie, and hurried gracefully across the room towards the fire-type sitting on Katrina's lap. He jumped up and crouched on her knee, then tilted his head curiously as he stared intently at the Vulpix.

"Why don't you let your bug-electric type out again?" she finished, addressing Vinnie again. She bit her lip once more as she wondered if she'd just overstepped her bounds by suggesting a course of action to another trainer about his pokemon.

Running and glancing down at his watch he knew he was late, but he kept running clinging onto the growlith hidden under his jacket. he finally arraives at the lab and stands under a low roof, he lets growlithe out who shakes himself dry. He dusts off the drizzle on his jacket, and proceeded to turn the knob, he glances down at growlithe who knudges him to hurry up inside. He steps inside not knowing what to expect on the other side so he slowly enters, at first he is stricken by shock as he sees so many unfamiliar machines around. He continues looking and spots a few others just a little bit farther than where he stood, he decided to approach them and introduce himself to them.

"Hello, my name is christiano, but you can call me cris for short; this is my partner in crime growlithe, it's very nice to meet all of you" he goes and shakes the hands of all others while growlithe stays behind sniffing at the others and their pokemon, "don't mind him, he just likes to identify people" He said in an apologetic tone. dont embarrass me grow lithe especially today he says to himself letting out a sigh and shaking his head at his partner.he looks over at Kat as growlithe keeps an eye on the vulpix, he puts a thought in his mind and walks back.

He glances over and notices the guy in red hair standing looking as if he is not having a good morning so far, but he pays no attention to him thinking he's just another person called up to arraive here, cris continues meeting with the others and decides not to communicate much with him. He smiles at kat and decides to stand next her as he feels she is the most likely to relate to him knowing she has a vulpix, and growlithe being of the same species which both of them evovle via a fire stone so it was obvious they had a somewhat instant connection. hopefully this will cheer up growly, he always gets upset when it rains he thought to himself though he knew all fire types disliked the rain.

((Of course, my first post is so bad I want to rewrite the whole thing. >.< I'll probably get better as we go, though. And also, I'm also going on a five day hiatus starting in two days, but I'll try to reply when I can.))

Perrine Hazelgrove
Palette Town

"And, of course, I'm perfectly on time as usual. Right, Kestrel?" Perrine piped up as she scrutinized the items she had stuffed into her backpack the night before. The Purrloin was perched on top of her head, looking very superior (not to mention messing up the contents of her bag whenever she turned around). A lazy sounding meow was all she got in response.

"...Kestrel, stop that. I know you're ruining my bag," She continued. "And besides, we're going to be late if we don't hurry up." Now that I think about it, my bag looks a little empty. No... well, more than just a little empty. Well, I probably packed only the bare essentials. As usual. No sense in wasting space! A measly looking tattered bag sat sagging on Perrine's bedroom floor, undoubtly not even a quarter full.

A low rumble from outside disrupted her thoughts, as she peered out the window. "Oh darn it, it's going to rain soon. I just hope we don't end up getting caught in a storm... even though we're probably not going to be going outside." Kestrel looked slightly nervous - Perrine couldn't blame him. He almost hated the rain as much as he hated killjoys. Snatching the Purrloin off of her head and putting him in his pokeball, she headed downstairs, where her parents were obviously waiting for her.

"Uh, good morning, mom," She muttered as her mom looked at her in a way that suggested she very badly didn't want her to do anything irrational. "Well, I have to go now, so if you don't mind..." Just as she was about to respond, Perrine's wandering elbow knocked over one of her mom's plates - which, unfortunately, also knocked over the rest like a row of dominoes.

"Yeah, um... I really, really have to go now. Bye!" Perrine quickly nabbed a sandwich off the counter, then ran out the door towards the lab.

Professor Oak's Lab

Perrine swore under her breath as the rain started pouring down on her in buckets. Aw, come on, Kestrel hates the rain. I hope he's not going to start scrat- "Hey, cut it out, Kestrel!" Sure enough, the Purrloin had squirmed out of her grasp and bolted for the entrance to the lab. Stupid cat. I should have gotten something else... Maybe a Marill... At least those are more bearable. Even a Duckling probably would've been better.

Begrudgingly, Perrine followed Kestrel inside. The first thing that struck her was "I must be trailing rainwater all over the floor". And the second: "why's this place so big...?" Looking around, she spotted an aide, but before they could manage to try and "help" her, she dashed off into the hallway. Um... let's see... a bunch of random rooms... more random rooms... Oh wait, there it is. I think. Reaching for the doorknob, she hesitated a little. What if this is the wrong room? Oh well - they'll probably just kick me out. And that's what I want, anyways. Perrine shrugged to herself and stepped inside.

"Oh, so I am in the right room," Perrine mused out before she could stop herself. "Well, that's unfortunate - er, I mean, fortunate." She scanned the room, counting. There weren't that many people (a good thing), and they didn't seem too unfriendly, either.

So... what to say when confronted with a social situation... Oh yeah. I have to say hi. "Um... hi. The name's Perrine Hazelgrove. And... erm, that's Kestrel." She said, letting the Purrloin out of his pokeball. I sure hope I sound conversational... or at least normal. I probably sound more like an anti-social person, though... which I technically am.

"Why don't you let your bug-electric type out again?" Holly asked. Well, maybe it would be a good idea to let Sparky get used to the others. Vinnie reached for his Pokeball, which was now shoved deep in his pocket. He lifted the ball out, and was about to throw it in the air when the door opened once again. A boy walked in, taller than Vinnie, wearing a dark jacket. "Hello, my name is Cristiano, but you can call me Cris for short; this is my partner in crime Growlithe. It's very nice to meet all of you," he said, shaking their hands. Alright, this is good. At least the other guy showed up. "I'm Vinnie," he responded, "and this is my friend Sparky." Vinnie threw the Pokeball in his hand into the air, and with a bright flash, Sparky appeared. The small bug scuttled across the floor and over to his owner. He crawled up Vinnie's side, and rested on his head. Vinnie smiled, and decided to walk over to the Growlithe. As he did so, the door opened once more, and another girl entered the room, which had been empty a few minutes ago. "Um... hi. The name's Perrine Hazelgrove. And... erm, that's Kestrel," the girl said, releasing a Purrloin out of a Pokeball. Well, the whole group is here, I wonder when we can get going on our journey.

Suddenly, a pair of large doors flew open on the far side of the room, and Professor Oak stepped out, accompanied by two Gym Leaders. He wore a white lab coat and black dress pants, and his grey hair still looked the same as it had several years ago. The trio walked over towards a series of steps, directly in front of where Vinnie and his group were sitting. A podium stood at the front, and the old Professor Oak walked up to it. "As you know," began the elderly man, his voice slightly raspy, "the war to defend Kanto still continues to this day, but we are slowly losing. The Gym Leaders and the Elite Four are not enough to defeat the seemingly endless forces of Team Galva. The Resistance needs your help. That is why you have gathered here today, to defend your home in it's darkest hour." Vinnie listened intently to each and every word the Professor spoke, while the red haired boy behind him cracked jokes. "In order to become a part of the Resistance, you must defeat the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four in battle in order to prove your strength," Oak continued.

The man then motioned for the Gym Leaders to take the podium. "I am Brock, the Gym Leader of Pewter City," the first spoke. He appeared to be in his mid-twenties and wore tan pants with a black shirt and orange and green vest. "I command the Rock-Type, and I will be the first Gym Leader you will face." Brock held a stoic face, and suddenly directed his voice towards the red haired boy. "Do you really not take this seriously? Our home is at war and all you can do is crack jokes?" He lashed out at the boy. "I don't need to beat some puny Gym Leaders to prove that I can join the Resistance! My Squirtle can beat your Rock-Types any day!" The boy shouted, throwing a Pokeball into the air. Out popped a Squirtle, crossing it's arms. "This is no place to battle!" Professor Oak interrupted. Brock stepped back from the podium, and a new Gym Leader took his place. "I am Misty, the Water-Type master. I am the second Gym Leader you shall face on your journey. Please, do your best and be careful on this quest. I will be waiting for you." The young girl with orange hair quietly stepped away from the podium. Oak returned once again. "As can be seen, these are extraordinary trainers. Good luck on your quest, and stay safe. I will see you again at the Elite Four." The Professor stepped down, and began to walk away when he shouted, "Also, there are Pokeballs, Potions, and food available in the lobby!" The trio walked away from where they had come from.

Well, this was interesting. "Come on guys, I guess we should stock up and head out, we have a long journey ahead of us," Vinnie said, beginning to walk towards the exit. As he looked back, he could see the red haired boy, still making jokes and mocking the Gym Leaders. This guy is out of control. "Well, let's go losers!" He shouted, and four other trainers followed him. As they approached the exit, the boy knocked Vinnie to the floor, and Sparky flew off his head, hitting into a wall. "Better get out of my way, chump," the boy said smirking. "Don't do that to me," Vinnie replied, walking over to grab Sparky. He walked back over to his group, and began to speak. "S-so are we going or what?"

Suddenly, another group came in. They wandered over to the other side of the room, and it wasn't long before a tall red-headed boy in the group talked out, "Listen up you chumps! I'm in charge here, and what I say goes!" Kat shuddered. He's so mean! I don't want anyone in my group to be like that.

"I know, sweets," a boy said, appearing behind Kat. He was much taller than her, with spiky blond hair and violent blue eyes. He was wearing a Pokemon Ranger suit, and Kat recognized him as Svenn. "But look at them. They seem nice! C'mon, sweets. Just trust 'em. Give 'em the benefit of the doubt!"

"I know... but still. What'll happen when we reach Viridian?" Kat said back, in her mind.

"Well... stay out of trouble's way, sweets, and if any of those ruffians show up- show them your strength."

Vinnie's voice snapped her attention from Svenn to the real world again. "Do.... either of you have any Pokémon?" he asked. She could tell by his red cheeks he was nervous. Oh, good... I'm not the only nervous one...

"This is Treecko. He's, well, a Treecko." Holly said quietly.Treeko waved enthusiastically at Vinnie, and hurried gracefully across the room towards the Kat and Ninya. He jumped up and crouched on her knee, then tilted his head curiously as he stared intently at Ninya. Kat stroked the Treeko's head. Awww... it's adorable! Ninya reached out and nuzzled Treeko's head. "Why don't you let your bug-electric type out again?" Holly said. Kat looked up at Vinnie to see what he would do.

Before Vinnie could do anything, another boy came in, and walked over to them. "Hello," he said, "My name is Christiano, but you can call me Cris for short; this is my partner in crime Growlithe, it's very nice to meet all of you." He went around to everone, shaking their hands, while his growlithe stayed behind to sniff everything. "don't mind him, he just likes to identify people" He said in an apologetic tone. dont embarrass me grow lithe especially today he says to himself letting out a sigh and shaking his head at his partner.he looks over at Kat as growlithe keeps an eye on the vulpix, he puts a thought in his mind and walks back. "Don't mind him," Cris said apologetically, "He just likes to identify people." He looked over at Kat, and smiled at her. He walked over to her, while his growlithe trotted along with him. Kat could tell he was thinking... something, but she couldn't tell what.

After Cris came, Vinnie brought out his pokeball. "This is my friend Sparky," he said, as a cute bug appeared and climbed up to his head. Aww... a growlithe, a treeko, a vulpix, and a... I don't know what that is, but it's adorable! This entire group is adorable!

Soon, another girl walked in. "Um... hi. The name's Perrine Hazelgrove. And... erm, that's Kestrel," she said, bringing out a cat-like pokemon. Oh goodness... everyone's pokemon is so cute!

Suddenly, a pair of large doors flew open on the far side of the room, and Professor Oak stepped out, accompanied by two Gym Leaders. He wore a white lab coat and black dress pants, and his grey hair still looked the same as it had several years ago. The trio walked over towards a series of steps, directly in front of where Kat and the rest of the group were sitting. That is why you have gathered here today, to defend your home in it's darkest hour. In order to become a part of the Resistance, you must defeat the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four in battle in order to prove your strength," Oak continued. Kat listened, enthralled, while trying to block out the idiot red-head cracking jokes behind her.

The man then motioned for one of Gym Leaders to take the podium. "I am Brock, the Gym Leader of Pewter City," he said. He appeared to be in his mid-twenties and wore tan pants with a black shirt and orange and green vest. "I command the Rock-Type, and I will be the first Gym Leader you will face." Suddenly, he turned to the idiot red-head. "Do you really not take this seriously? Our home is at war and all you can do is crack jokes?" He lashed out.

"I don't need to beat some puny Gym Leaders to prove that I can join the Resistance!" the idiot red-head shouted back. "My Squirtle can beat your Rock-Types any day!" He threw a pokeball into the air, and out popped a Squirtle, crossing it's arms.

"Come on guys, I guess we should stock up and head out, we have a long journey ahead of us," Vinnie said, beginning to walk towards the exit. Kat stood up to follow him, looking at Cris. She could still hear the idiot redhead.

"That boy needs a nickname," Svenn said, "I'll think about it on our way to Viridian, sweets, and that I'll tell ya. 'Kay?"

Kat nodded her head. "Well, let's go losers!" the idiot red-head shouted, and four other trainers followed him.

Kat smiled. "Um... that would be a good idea. We're stocking up first... right?"

Cris grabbed the supplies laid out before him, he looked over and witnessed the scene that had occurred between Vinnie and the red haired guy. "That wasn't very nice man, we are all in this together we have no reason to act like animals." He said to the guy, but only received a smirk and he walked out the exit. He looked down at Pyro who was growling at the guy, "calm down boy we probably won't see him for a while anyway" he smiled at his partner. He looked at Vinnie had got up and gone to get his Joltik, he waked over to the group and asked "S-so are we going or what?". Cris had replied " I think it's about time we started, so yeah let's go" He approached the exit and prepared to leave, though he had no idea where he was supposed to start, he then remembered that he had a town map in his back pocket which he had pulled out, he then had proceeded to the exit awaited to see if the others needed a town map as well; "If you guys need a Town Map let me know" he had told them. Cris always carried spares so he wouldn't have mind giving any of them away, as long as he was contribuitng he was completely fine with it. He looked down at Pyro and said "well it's time for us to go, here hold this berry it'll help you incase any trouble comes our way." He handed it Pyro who happily took it.

Cris looked around at the others who had arrived earlier, he was not sure who he would have gone with if they were in fact going to split up. If he could have chosen he would have probably stayed close to Kat, only because Pyro will not stop occasionally glancing at her vulpix. He fixes his back pack one more time and looks over at Professor Oak, wearing his white lab coat and huttled near the corner speaking to the two gym leader who had introduced themselves as Brock and Misty, Brock had a serious face on and his arms folded listening intently and Misty who he thought was cute had her arms on her waist and then she had begun to speak. He wondered what they were saying Cris thought to himself with a puzzled look on his face. Whatever it was he thought had to be something their not telling us because of the serious expressions on there face, Cris however had pushed it to the back of his mind already and headed out towards the exit and out to the open air, he waited for the others to see what they had wanted to go with him or not towards Viridian City, he stood by the door and had looked to see if the red haired guy had stuck around but he was nowhere in sight.

"I'm glad we won't have to see him for a while huh Pyro?" He said to his partner who gave out an agreeing bark. Cris awaited for The others to come out and brainstorm a plan, he had especially wanted to work closer with Kat who he thought was cute at that time but he could have never admit that to her. He had thought to himself Viridian City is a while away, that should be plenty of time to talk to her. if anything he always had Pyro to use to break the ice, he was intrigued by her and he knew she was an interesting person. While outside he had seen a somewhat large berry tree, on it there was a few berries colored all black and white with a strange shaped question mark on it; Cris had plucked one and stuffed it into his back pack for safe keeping. Pyro had looked up at the sky and was happy the rain had stopped, He wondered if he should had let Pyro learn Sunny Day; Knowing Pyro he knew he would just be misusing it anyway.

Professor Oak's Laboratory

"Um... that would be a good idea. We're stocking up first... right?" Kat asked intently. "Yeah, let's go," Vinnie motioned, walking into the lobby area of the lab. Laid out on a table were Potions, Pokeballs, berries, escape ropes, paralyze heals, and everything in between. Vinnie decided to grab five of each item, after all, he didn't want to be greedy. As he starred at his surroundings, he began to notice that most other groups had already left the lab and were heading towards Viridian City. Vinnie didn't want to rush his friends, but he hoped that soon they could get going. After stocking up his backpack, Vinnie was ready to go. He stepped outside, and a bright sun shone in the sky. While in the lab, the storm had subsided. Small puddles decorated the ground, and Rattata could be seen dashing through the grass. So, his journey began, accompanied by his newfound friends. After a short walk through Pallet Town, they reached Route 1.

"Well, here it is, l-let's get going," Vinnie stepped forward, swatting at the tall grass in front of him. It reached up to his waist, and twisted roots laid beneath the thick weeds. Few Pokémon were seen. Spearow could be heard squawking in the distance, and Rattata ran rampant beneath the layers of grass. In front of his group, several others could be seen. One appeared to be having trouble traversing the thickets, while another found a clear path, free of the tall grass. Suddenly, a wild Rattata leaped at Vinnie and he shielded his face. Sparky jumped off of his head and defended his owner with an Electroweb attack. The dazed Rattata scurried away, frightened by the strange electrical insect. His friends remained silent, and Vinnie was not sure what to say or do. "So, w-what do you guys want to talk about" he asked, looking forward.

"Um... yeah, I guess I'll stock up too," Perrine decided. After all, she didn't want failing to be the first thing she did on her journey. Following the others to the lobby, she took a few Pokeballs, Potions and Antidotes. I probably won't need all that other fancy stuff, anyways. Shrugging off the feeling that she should really start putting more things in her backpack, she followed the others out onto Route One. Well, at least nobody's slowing us down - that wouldn't been, frankly, quite annoying.

"So, w-what do you guys want to talk about," She heard Vinnie say. Perrine looked towards him in a puzzled sort of way. "Why in the name of Arceus would you want to talk?" She asked pointedly. "We could be doing better things right now, you know. Such as... stopping Kestrel from running off and trying to eat the Rattata. And - hey, get back here, Kestrel!" Kestrel, as Perrine as predicted, was running off in pursuit of Rattata. Rolling her eyes, she followed, quickly scooping him up in her arms.

"Sorry, he's just so annoying sometimes," She quipped. "Kestrel's always getting into trouble." The Purrloin meowed in protest and started scratching wildly in an attempt to get away from Perrine.

"Yep, he looks cute, but let your guard down and he'll be at you in no time flat," Perrine continued. "So... just warning you." As if to prove her point, Kestrel suddenly leapt out of her arms and dashed off into the grass again (undoubtly looking for a tasy Rattata or two). "He'll probably be back soon, so I wouldn't worry about him too much."

Route 1

There were so many pokemon frolicking and just enjoying there time in the tall grass, Cris had forbidden Pyro to burn the grass down since he knew he was a hot head and would have burned the whole route. He noticed many rattatas and drifted back to that traumatic experience as a child, he shook his head and had come out of the daze he was in. "So w-what do you guys want to talk about? Vinnie asked helping Cris snap out of his daze. Cris moved to the side and let the running Krestal run past him, "We could talk about how it's strange that there are no other people around, have you noticed that?" He turned to the others and asked. He saw that Vinnie had looked around and confirmed what Cris had asked,"T-that is a strange observation" He replied. Cris looked at Pyro and noticed that he was sniffing what looked like an wing injured Pidgey, Cris had crept up closer to the small patch of grass nearby.

Cris bent down to pick it up and looked up at the others, "Hey guys this Pidgey is hurt, I think we should wait up a bit and let me give it a potion, if that's okay with everyone?" He asked them and observed the Pidgey which looked like it was knocked out this had made it easier to pick it up and bring it over to the others, Pyro looked at him as to figure out what his master was doing. Cris knelt down and swung his back pack over to the front, the Pidgey twitched a little but Cris had paid no attention to it for he thought it was still in an unconscious state at the time.

Cris pulled out the potion and sprayed it onto the pidgey, it cried a bit and it flapped its wings around in a frantic way scratching Cris "Ahhh!", He let out and now Pyro was ready to defend his master, "Stop Pyro!, it was just an accident!" He shouted at Pyro to calm him down. The injured pidgey then let out a giant flap and flew up into the sky, Cris looked up and had muttered under his breath Good luck Pidgey. Cris got up to his feet and turned to the others "Sorry about that guys, hope this doesn't put us behind schedule" He told them in an apologetic tone.

Holly Tempest
Oak's lab

Holly took down all the names of the people as they arrived and was satisfied to see everybody show up.

As the professor and the gym leaders spoke at the front, Holly listened attentively even though the red-haired boy close to her was bothersome. She watched Brock's calm, collected and reserved demeanor, as though he had the strength to move the entire world if he wanted to.

At the table with supplies, Holly slipped three potions, five pokeballs, and two of each cure item into her bag. She already had her own food, but she took some berries to supplement Treecko's diet.

Route 1

"Well, here it is, l-let's get going," said Vinnie as he started into the grass. There were pokemon all around her, but she paid them little attention. A few of them dared to attack but none of them came at her, just the others because of where she was within the group.

"So, w-what do you guys want to talk about?" asked Vinnie a little bit later. Holly was fairly comfortable with the silence, but she understood his urge to break it. Perrine, however, did not and responded harshly to the attempt to make conversation.

"Why in the name of Arceus would you want to talk?" Holly looked at the girl curiously, who then started talking about her feline pokemon she called Kestrel despite having deterred conversing moments earlier. Cris mentioned the lack of people around them, something she had noticed on her way to the lab as well. She decided to keep quiet, watching intently as the boy who spoke up tended to a wounded pokemon, who thanked him with a face full of wing.

She moved to the back of the small group of people and watched the dynamics of the group attentively. Perrine seemed distant, as though she didn't want to be there or didn't like the people. Vinnie was shy or anxious or otherwise uncomfortable. Cris seemed to be very interested in Katrina, and deep in thought at the same time while Katrina seemed to be lost in her own world. Holly sighed, worried she wouldn't fit in with these people. Treecko didn't seem to be having similar problems, as he was running around in the trees and dropping down next to people before leaping back up into the branches. Suddenly she felt a violent impact between her shoulder blades. She let out a yelp of surprise and tucked into a forward roll just before hitting the ground. She got back to her knees and skidded no more than a foot before she got up and whipped around to see a rather large pidgey staring at her aggressively. Treecko hopped down and landed with a dull thud between his trainer and the wild pokemon. Before the pidgey could respond to the new threat, Treecko took a deep breath and let loose a blast of purple energy which knocked the bird unconscious. A bit shaken, it took Holly a moment to realize it might be good to have another pokemon, especially one so strong. She drew a pokeball and bit her lip, then glanced around before finally throwing it at the unconscious bird. It was converted into energy then sucked into the sphere, which dropped to the ground and started wobbling.

Route 1

"Why in the name of Arceus would you want to talk?" Perrine shot back at Vinnie. He looked at her with a shocked face. Vinnie just ignored her. If she was going to be like that, then Vinnie wasn't going to talk to her at all. As this was all going on, Cris stopped to help a hurt Pidgey. The boy asked whether or not he could use a potion on it, but the question seemed rhetorical. He continued to heal the Pidgey, and it flew into the air, following it's flock. Such beautiful Pokémon. All of a sudden, Holly disrupted the now silent group. She screamed and Vinnie looked back to see a large Pidgey glaring at the girl. That's strange. It seems to have the attitude of Team Galva's Pokémon. Well then again it's just a rumor that their Pokémon are unusually aggressive. The girl's Treecko attacked the wild Pokémon with a Dragonbreath attack and the bird fell to the ground. Holly then grabbed a Pokeball, and contemplated whether or not to catch the Pidgey.

"Don't do that!" Vinnie yelled, rushing over to Holly, but he was too late. The girl had thrown the Pokeball, and it began to wobble back and forth. Vinnie's eyes were glued to the objet, but he lifted his head when he heard another group shouting. "Cristiano Guerrero! Are you out here?" Vinnie looked puzzled as to why another group was looking for a member of his group. He reached into his pocket and returned with a list of the groups in hand. "Wait a second!" Vinnie exclaimed. "Cris, you must be with that group! We apparently have someone named Shade in our group!" On the list, Vinnie noticed the name "Shade" scrawled in pen next to their group. They must have added him in last second. With that announcement, Cris left the group, meeting the other one who had been searching for him. "Well, it was nice knowing him for a little while." Vinnie decided to observe his group as they waited to see if Holly had caught the Pidgey. Perrine seemed bipolar. At times she was mean, but then soon calmed down and became nice to Pokémon. Kat was very quiet, having not said an entire word since leaving Pallet Town. I wonder if she's okay. Last was Holly, who seemed to be the most active of the group. She didn't talk much, but took the most action by attempting to capture a Pokémon. Vinnie decided that Holly was his favorite of the group so far, with Perrine being his least favorite. I hope this Shade guy isn't mean. Soon, his attention returned to the Pokeball, which still remained wobbling after all this time. This thing better pop out, or we're in serious trouble.

Oak Labs ---> Route 1

"Yeah, let's go," Vinnie said, motioning for the group to follow him into the lab's lobby. Kat nodded and followed. In the lobby was a table with items sprawled across its face. Vinnie grabbed a few items, as did Perrine, Cris, and Holly.

"Aren't you going to get some too, sweets?" Svenn said, walking beside her.

"Of course I am, silly," Kat glared, "I just want everyone else to get what they need before me..." With that, she walked up to the table, Ninya perched on her head, and took some potions, pokeballs, and five of every berry available.

Before long, Vinnie had lead the group outside. The rain had subsided, leaving puddles of water scattered across the ground. The five meandered around Pallet Town, before eventually arriving at Route 1. "Well, here it is, l-let's get going," Vinnie said, stepping into the grass.

Kat shuddered. She could hear the grass rustling with various pokemon, and the grass was up to Vinnie's waist. She looked up to see Link standing next to her on her left, and Svenn on the right. Link roared, while Svenn smiled. "Don't worry, sweets," Svenn said, "We'll help ya through this." Link took Kat's hand, while Svenn took the other.

Suddenly, a rattata jumped out of the grass and onto Vinnie's face. His pokemon leaped up to help his trainer, electrowebbing the pokemon and scaring it off. The group walked in silence for a little while, until Vinnie spoke. "So, w-what do you guys want to talk about?"

"Why in the name of Arceus would you want to talk?" Perrine lashed out. Kat flinched. I knew there had to be someone... she thought. "We could be doing better things right now, you know. Such as... stopping Kestrel from running off and trying to eat the Rattata. And - hey, get back here, Kestrel!" Perrine said, rolling her eyes and running after her pokemon, who was, in fact, trying to eat a rattata. She picked him up and continued. "Sorry, he's just so annoying sometimes. Kestrel's always getting into trouble." The Purrloin meowed in protest and started scratching wildly in an attempt to get away from Perrine. "Yep, he looks cute, but let your guard down and he'll be at you in no time flat, so... just warning you." Kestrel leaped out of his trainer's arms, and back into the grass. "He'll probably be back soon, so I wouldn't worry about him too much."

Svenn rolled his eyes. "Ugh. Could she be any more annoying?"

Kat breathed deeply, before letting everything blur around her. She could faintly hear Cris next to her, saying something about the lack of people, and then running off to help a wild pidgey. Suddenly, a yelp from reality snapped Kat out of it, and she looked to see Holly knocked to the ground by a large pidgey. Holly's Treeko jumped down, hitting the bird with a Dragon Breath and rendering it unconscious. She then threw a pokeball at the bird. Kat gasped.

"What is she doing!?" Svenn said, rushing in front of Kat. "That's illegal!"

Vinnie had the same idea. "Don't do that!" he said, rushing up to her. But it was all too late- the pokeball had been thrown, and was wobbling back and forth.

"Cristiano Guerrero! Are you out here?" another group was shouting. Kat cocked her head. Why on earth... he's in our group...

Vinnie took out his list. "Wait a second!" he exclaimed. "Cris, you must be with that group! We apparently have someone named Shade in our group!" Kat pulled out her list of names and looked through it. He's right... Cris's name has been crossed out, and the name Shade is on here... With Vinnie's announcement, Cris left the group, meeting the other one who had been searching for him. "Well, it was nice knowing him for a little while." Vinnie said as Cris left.

Kat walked up to Vinnie. "Vin? Um... what happens if the pokeball catches?"

Holly Tempest
Route 1

Completely unaware of the laws regarding pokemon catching, Holly had thrown the pokeball with the purest intentions. She sensed the stress of the people behind her, and looked at them confused as the red and white sphere shook on the ground. She looked back and watched intently as the ball popped open, and the pokemon it had contained flew away quickly, not looking back. She turned around and looked at her stressed co-travellers.

"What's wrong?" asked the girl, who was looking at those around her one by one. After having the law explained to her*, her eyes widened as she realized she had nearly become a criminal, while in the earliest stages of her journey to help her new region. After that she resolved to not take any action unless itwas required. She meekly shifted spots withing the group, trying to get to somewhere where she wouldn't be stared at, and, hopefully, where she wouldn't attract the attention of Perrine, of whom's personality type Holly was now certain of.
