The riddle was actually written as a palindrome, like girafarig's name. If you read the lines backwards it makes just as much sense. Actually it sort of makes more sense if you read the lines in reverse.

My dark side, I mean - as stated, it's tail is black, has its own brain, and likes to bite things that get too close
I'm afraid of it - girafarig is weak to dark
I can control myself, but still - they have separate brains, so it's tail can't control it

Is it grumpig. It doesn't look that tough. And they rebalanced the psychic vs ghost this a few times.

I'm taking a wild guess and gonna say Zubat.

Once I feared it, - Mr. Mime perhaps? Used to be primarily Psychic.
but now I enjoy it's thrill. - Gained fairy type which Zubat's poison is SE against.
I might not seem it, but - Little tiny bat.
I am more than capable of the kill. - Leech Life, poison moves, etc...
I enjoy the darkness in more ways than one, - Lives in dark caves.
Yet those that accompany it will leave me undone. - People find Zubat effing annoying.

Probably very wrong, but Hoopa?

Once I feared it,
but now I enjoy it's thrill. In normal form, it is weak to dark, but in its Unbound form it gains the Dark type
I might not seem it, but - Hoopa is pretty small
I am more than capable of the kill. - good attack prowess
I enjoy the darkness in more ways than one, - Maybe the rings lead to a dark place?
Yet those that accompany it will leave me undone -All of the legendary pokemon come out of those rings it has.

I enjoy the darkness in more ways than one- the inside of the Odd Keystone could be dark and being inside of that could help it hide in the dark better

Is it the main character, the Pokemon trainer. Used to fear darkness then got the hm/tm flash. And the second you enter a cave you are pretty much covered in zubats lol

Typed out a whole reply but my wifi crapped out so I'll just sum it up:

I think the last two lines refer to Beat Up/Justified. Beat Up is a Dark type move, and the number of times which it hits is based on the number of Pokemon on your team - Justified is an ability which boosts Attack when hit by a Dark type move, and as a combo it can be used in Doubles/VGC to raise the Attack of a Pokemon with Justified up to 6 times. I'm not really sure which Pokemon that can have Justified it would be, but I'm not too concerned about winning so I'll just leave it at that.

It judt got a Mega Evo so it's less overlooked.
It's a Ghost Type so likes the dark but is simultaneously weak to both denizens of it; Ghost and Dark.
