I will be doing more sugumori-styled art for later pokemons, but it won't be posted here since its a -sprite- thread and they take up too much room. I may make a seperate post for art in the art section of the forums, though.

Maps + trainers + badges coming soon!
Let me know what you guys think.

    Thank you. ^^

I'm not sure I know what you're asking as far as how I did them..

I used a program called SAI Paint Tools for the Sugimori art. SAI does pretty much all of the work as far as the lines and such. oxo
I drew the sprites in MS Paint and made them into transparencies using GIMP 2.

they are truly amazing, but I find it hard to see the shading? have you even added any...

My advice is to find a light source and use darker shades that aren't close to the same as the midtone.

I think the Sugimori-style's are beautiful, and if you did start a thread in the main art section, I'd subscribe to it.

On the note of sprites, they're not the best, but they're not bad. I think the colours should be looked at, as they seem to...pastel at the moment.

    Aww!
They're really cute. Really, I can't decide which one I'd choose... I'd probably just go with Ottrewa, because it's sprite is so cute.

Mangious could work for Muttl's evo. I guess. (Mangy + Tedious).

  11. Cece

    Cece Well-Known Member

Well, I actually wanted them pastel. I wanted them all different, but still match up as a set.. Well, that doesn't make much sense, actually. x_x The only colors I'm not satisfied with are Ottrewa's.. I don't think there is enough contrast between them.

And hey, guys, I'm really not fond of the Ottrewa line's names.. If anyone can come up with better ones, I'll give them a free sprite/art request. ^^

It's a word mix thing my friend came up with. Otter + (wa)ter. We were having a ahrd time thinking up names for them oxo

  14. Ex...

    Ex... Uh... Hello? '-'

Cloumbusot - Clo (Cloud) + Um (Cumulus) + Bus (Nimbus) + Ot (Otter)

    Clotormin - Clo(Cloud) + Ot(Otter) + Orm (Storm) + In (Rain)

  15. Cece

    Cece Well-Known Member

Hmm. I'm thinking there are too many words put into those- three should probably be the max.
The first one isn't very easy to say, either. Need something short and catchy, like when you think of current pokemon starters. Chimchar, Piplup, Turtwig, all of them are simple and they sound good.

Alas, it may be near impossible to get such a cute name out of 'Otter', so feel free to go with words like cloud or soft, or anything those goes along with the water pokemon theme.

You guys might as well take a crack at the names for the other starters, too, but I really like the current names so it'll be hard to win me over. xP

Also, some Pokemons' names are derived from original Japanese names- so you could go with Japanese words if you like. I would rather the names be English, but if it sounds pretty, I'll take it.
In this case, the Japanese word for otter Is Kawausa, Kawa meaning river, and usa meaning... well, I don't really know, actually.

    How about
Vaporot (Vapor + Otter) [Thanks for the inspiration, wilycoyote64] for the middle evolution and
Lontrain (Lontra = genus name of the American River Otter + Rain) or Lutrain (genus name of the European Otter + rain) for the highest?
Alternatively, Lontrein or Lutrein--but that's kind of a rehash if you think of Walrein.
AWESOME Sugimori-style pics, and I seriously bow to your skill!

One piece of advice when creating names is DON'T be afraid of scientific nomenclature! Oftentimes the genus names an be *very* helpful!

Artemi, I really love Lutrain- I think I will use that for the final water evo. <3

Drop me a message w/ what you want as a request~

Wily me and my friend already thought of wotter, but we decided it was too.. obvious. x3 The others are okay, but I still like Ottrewa a little better.

Ottrewa is water, it's evolutions are going to either be solid water or water/electric (I haven't finalized the designs yet)
