Stormy Pokemon
-Ottrewa Lv 18> Hydrottr Lv 38> Lutrain-

Though their docile temperament make them ideal for
beginning trainers, HYDROTTR are virtually nonexistent
in the wild. The soft clouds on their upper body produce
static when they are angered.

WOO~ |D Lutrain should be up soon!

Very nice! The artwork is really eye-catching, and it made me really interested in the sprites. So good job on that. Now for sprite C+C, which is what we're all here for...

Muttl has far too much black in the outlines. I only see outline highlights up in the head/back section, and there could be a bit of that same shade where the front leg meets the body. Aside from that, it really matches the artwork superbly, which was obviously the intent, so it's very nice.

Firebrat is great, but its two subsequent evolutions are both rather chaotic sprites. It's as though you crammed too much stuff into that 80x80 size limit. I mean, it's great, but a little too much. One pair of wings should be enough for any Pokemon. (Lookin' at you, Crobat. *glares*)

I love Ottrewa and Hydrottr, so no crit there...

Chewii's adorable, but you sort of doubled up the lines around the teeth. That's almost considered banding, which is really not a good thing.

Ornix is great, but lastly, Vixsun's pose makes it a little strange. Is it supposed to be levitating? If so, I get it, but I think it would be better of the tail were stretched out behind it like a Mew. That's all I have to say on that.

All in all, you've made some great Fakemon here. And that artwork's not too shabby, either. Keep up the great work!

I love the Hydrottr sprite, sis. The only problem I see with it is her ear. Apart from that, it's fine.

Thanks very much <3 Ironically, the art (particularly the starters on this thread) is the only thing I'm really not fond of.

Muttl has far too much black in the outlines. I only see outline highlights up in the head/back section, and there could be a bit of that same shade where the front leg meets the body. Aside from that, it really matches the artwork superbly, which was obviously the intent, so it's very nice.

? The brighter lining was there, it was just too dark to tell when compared with the lighter line highlights on the head/tail. Fixed.

*glares*)
I adore Crobat. That aside, I really want to stick with the four wings. However, Skorrat's wings are probably too big and the layout of them really doesn't give much opportunity for... flying. lol.
006.png
Here he is without wings, and he looks a whole lot better. I'm thinking of changing his wings for smaller ones similar to Emybrat. But yeah, something needs to be done about them 8\
Yeah Embyrat's sprite just sucks, w/o wings it's almost smaller than Firebrat. Especially the head.. I often just make things way too small by accident. I need to re-do him.

I love Ottrewa and Hydrottr, so no crit there...
<3

Chewii's adorable, but you sort of doubled up the lines around the teeth. That's almost considered banding, which is really not a good thing.
Nah, just added pixels to the corners of the teeth. Not banding. Makes 'em look more spiky. Again, this is another sprite I plan on re-doing in the ear future. It's an okay sprite though, so I'll probably be saving it for last-ish.

Ornix is great, but lastly, Vixsun's pose makes it a little strange. Is it supposed to be levitating? If so, I get it, but I think it would be better of the tail were stretched out behind it like a Mew. That's all I have to say on that.
Ornix is my very least favorite sprite on here. I've also redesigned him. If you care to take a look:
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b186/ChCub/embreena.png
So he needs to be resprited.
Yess, Vixsin is levitating, similar to mew, celebi, jirachi.. I figured it was kinda implied. And the tail is just where I want it's resting position to be.. In a circular/spiral pose, kinda like a sun.

I love the Hydrottr sprite, sis. The only problem I see with it is her ear. Apart from that, it's fine.
The ear? its supposed to be small, like an otter's. You wouldn't be able to see the other one.
Or do you just not like the way it's drawn/attached? oxo

It looks too curved, I think. I dunno. I might just be looking at it weird. Don't mind me.

Ryubane

Why yes, it exists
I don't think the ear's that weird. It's sort of like a little ear flap that a real otter would have; how you can see the little fold of skin which folds back into his head when he's underwater. It makes sense in that perspective, although for this particular sprite it may be on the large side. Still great though, I wouldn't change it.

Your sprites are really good :3 not to mention the sugimori-style art. Makes me wish I'd seen this thread earlier. Pretty starters, and I absolutely love Muttl, Chewii, Ornix and Vixsun (Me being a reptile/canine fan and all XD) I'm looking forward to seeing their evos when you get round to doing them <3

Ornix= Embreena now then :3 it's pretty different but I like it. It has more of a Fire/Ice look now.

The new wings on Skorrat are looking great too. The folding of them is definitely improved~

Not completely satisfied with this sprite. May go back and edit later >_>

Up next is muttl's two evos..

Yup, 'tis me!
Wow, these are awesome! Embreena's a wayy better name than I came up with, it sounded like onix :/ Anyway, the only thing that I can see wrong with ANY of these sprites is that Glaciere's back legs look a little odd, maybe the angle? And to make Lutrain look a bit more like an electric type why don't you add some sparks to the cloud? They are really good though, MILES better than what I could ever do :D

I haven't been here in a while, so a lot's been going on. Let me catch up:

Embreena: Simply amazing. It reminds me of Arcanine, actually, which is good, because I like Arcanine. However, I would like to see more contrast between shades. It's a great sprite, but its shading is a little lackluster. It's unusual though; all the markings you've given it somehow lessen this 2-D nature. It's an odd effect, but it works.

Skorrat: This new sprite's a thousand times better than the old one. =3 The wings don't look like they're as rolled up now, and have a natural-looking fold.

Lutrain: Again, it needs a bit more contrast in between shades. Also, it doesn't look like a very Electric Pokemon. I don't know what to suggest, but it's a great sprite either way.

And Glaciare: Same with this one. Needs more contrast between shades. Also, that giant blue-grey patch on the tail looks odd; as if it's had paint spilled on it. XD A bit less black in the outlines would help, as well. Not your best sprite in my opinion, but the concept is one of my favorites. I can't wait to see more sprites! :D

Ryubane, thanks for being one of the only people here who seriously give me crit.
thank yooouuuu.

Fixed up Glaciare per your complaints. I also attempted to fix up the legs, which are giving me a ton of trouble.

Loving the new sprites, Cece~

"Is that a mini super fox?" <-- That's what my friend just said about Vixsun. I just had to put it in this post.

But the only one I have a problem with is Glaciare. The anti-aliasing doesn't look quite right. It looks far to dark around the back of the pokémon, and the colours within the sprite don't look dark enough with shading. If that made any sense~

Lutrain, however is beautiful. The colours you've used on the body and clouds really brighten it up. Shading is very nice as well.

You're very welcome. I'm always happy to help! ^_^

I honestly didn't notice any problems with the legs at all, but they do look better now. The tail's also great, and the anti-aliasing and re-outlining job you've done looks great. The contrast in shading is easily visible now, which is great. (If you wanted to, you could take that original shading color and blend the shades further for an amazing effect. :)) And they weren't complaints, they were suggestions. Complaints sounds derogatory, and your sprites don't deserve that.

Alright. You're one of the best spriters here and I aspire to be of your level, so I figured I'd try to give you some serious critique. Ryubane seems to have covered some critique your sprites could use, so I don't have much to say.

Chewii is a great sprite and design, but I find the contrast between it's shading and skin colour to be much too close. The shading colour needs to be slightly darker, perhaps by a lum of -10 or so. Trust me, I've had this problem with my sprites before aswell, and it turned out much better. I'm not telling you to change the colour of its skin, just make the shade a slightly deeper colour so it's more noticeable.

A similar thing could be said about Muttl, where at first glance I can hardly notice the amazing shading you've put into that sprite. The light shading really detracts from making it look more dynamic.

As for your designs in general, I'm quite fond of them. They have that sort of unique touch that makes Pokemon "Pokemon, and each sprite has its own sort of energy or mood to it. My only concern is of your Fire starter, Firebrat and co. The fact that it's Fire/Dragon would hypothetically put it at an advantage over the other two starters, as it would take neutral damage from your water starter, and the water starter would have no real way of easily beating it, unless it learned a rock move leveling up. I only have this concern because typically, the water->fire->grass type triangle is kept throughout the whole evolution chain. Blastoise beats Charizard, Empoleon can beat Infernape (hypothetically if Infernape didn't KO it first with a fighting move) etc. Of course, in Sinnoh's case, the triangle goes full-circle.

I also have a question. Would I be able to use your "pokedex format" for my own region? I'd happily give credit for it, miss Cece.
