Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet - General Discussion/Speculation Thread

I'm actually a little bit mad that they think they can give us some crappy concert performance (and a glance at some plushies) and think we're gonna go wild about it.
Of course I never took much notice of music in Pokémon, soit might be différent for others.
They really disrespect their fans at this point
They have some of the most loyal fandom in the world, who have been buying everything they release for the pst 25+ years.
Their fans deserve better than this

we probably would, if they had released a new trailer recently. we've become too jaded.
No, not me. As I said I really don't care about the music in Pokemon. Sure there are some examples where i thought it was pretty nice while playing, but I don't really remember them after playing like I do with, for example, the soundtracks from the PS1-PS2 era Final Fantasies.
There's no scenario where a video where a video of an orchestra playing a Pokemon song would have gotten me excited.

If it had been paired with a new trailer, I would have just watched the trialer and ignored the orchestra video.

It’s Kalos season!
In addition to me wanting to see the full Scarlet and Violet Pokédex, I also want to know what the version exclusives are.

This implies that everyone here has bought the spin-offs (and engaged in MTX, in the case of the F2P ones), the cards, merch etc, and we know that this isn't true at all.
And speaking of which, why haven't you played the spin-offs yet? What about a Mon games that are not Pokémon?

You took that comment too literally and I was referring to main poke games . And that doesn’t change the fact that Pokemon fans are very very very loyal and the fact that Pokemon is one of the biggest and most successful brands in the world proves it
So ur point is ?

Pokémon fans have news anxiety.
I could elaborate, but instead, I will say this:
Do you know what the definition of "insanity" is?
Doing the same ****ing thing over and over, and expecting it to change.

The point is that, despite having all these gripes with Nintendo's development and marketing strategies, Pokemon fans keep giving them money. They are literally incentivizing them not to change. Companies don't like to take risks; from their perspective, why should they when they have a formula that they know will sell games? Until we disrupt that security, all the criticism and complaining in the world will do us no good.

Even if they were hyping this game similar to how they did with SM, I don't think anyone would go crazy over a video of an orchestra playing the theme of a game we didn't even played yet. This is the sort of thing that only get a strong reaction when it uses songs that are already well established classics within a series.

Peanuts aren't just a nut.
Ultimately, the only reason I'm as eager as I am for news is because the lack of news makes it more likely that the games are very barebones, even moreso than SwSh.

Now, you can use the "they just want to keep more surprises for the players" excuse. And they did say when doing the SwSh reveal cycle that they wanted to keep more surprises, but ultimately, SwSh wound up revealing as much as SM did relative to the total amount of content in the games. The only "surprises" they kept were some of new Pokemon.

Long story short, as much as we may not want to admit it, yes, the severe lack of news could mean that the games have little content. :(

That's a scary thought. Although the only thing I can think of that would make this game subpar would be a super empty open world.

Pokémon fans have news anxiety.
I could elaborate, but instead, I will say this:

To be fair, we do know less than usual for a new generation at this point in the news cycle. By July 22 in 2013, 2016, and 2019 we knew the following for each game:

XY: the starters, the box legendaries, the release date, the region name and map, Fairy type, PSS, Pokemon-Amie, Sky Battles, Horde Battles, roller skates, rideable Skiddo, Gogoat, and Rhyhorn, the evil team, the professor, the rivals, 3 gym leaders (Viola, Grant, and Clemont) and 15 other Pokemon (Gogoat, Helioptile, Fletching, Pancham, Noivern, Vivillon, Spewpa, Skrelp, Clauncher, Talonflame, Scatterbug, Litleo, Flabebe, Honedge, Inkay, Malamar, Pangoro, Spritzee, Swirlix, and Trevenant)
SM: the starters, the box legendaries, the release date, the region name and map, the Rotom Dex, the professor, the rivals, Hyper Training, hints at Poke Ride, Zygarde's forms, and 19 other Pokemon (Komala, Rockruff, Pikipek, Yungoos, Grubbin, Drampa, Togedemaru, Vikavolt, Cutiefly, Bruxish, Charjabug, Tapu Koko, Salandit, Bewear, Mimikyu, Wimpod, Bounsweet, Comfey, and Mudsdale)
SwSh: the starters, the box legendaries, the release date, the region name and map, the burst gimmick, the Wild Area, the Y-Comm, the Rotom Bike, Corviknight Taxi, the professor (and Sonia), the Champion, one of the rivals (Hop), 3 of the gym leaders (Milo, Nessa, and Bea/Allister), and 10 other Pokemon (Corviknight, Wooloo, Gossifleur, Eldegoss, Dreadnaw, Yamper, Impidimp, Duraludon, Alcremie, and Rolycoly).

Compare that to now where we only know the starters, the legendaries, the release date, the professors, one of the rivals, the co-op and 3 other Pokemon. Hard not to feel shortchanged if you've been following news cycles for past games. The difference between what we got in past games and what we have now is stark. We know a lot less Pokemon for starters, and they'll usually have gone into detail about multiple key aspects of the game by this point when we still have questions about nearly all of them for SV (What's the region name and map? Are we getting gyms or something else? What's the burst gimmick? What are we doing for field abilities such as Surfing and Flying? Are we getting the bike or riding a Pokemon? How does the online work? Are there any other key gadgets, features, or gameplay modes we should know about?). It's definitely not just news anxiety, we know a lot less about the games and we have many more unanswered questions at this point than we did for past games. I'd say concerns about the lack of news are justified at this point.

Yeah exactly that's why I'm frustrated we didn't get anything yet in July. And essentially from August till November it's only 3 months. There's not really a lot of time and we know less than anything since maybe Black and White

Agreed, without trying to sound like im "frothing from the mouth" or something, like just an opinion, but the marketing team of Sword and Shield and the current marketing team (idk if theyre the same) should both be fired. Pretty sure they lied to the fandom straight up during the released of SS about having a full dex and now they're just performing a weak campaign in general this time.

Hopefully it picks up but if we are to judge at this current point in time, I would fire them if I made the rules (good thing i dont)

I'm curious how many people giving the marketing team grief are themselves marketing specialists or anything of the like. Maybe they've decided that, this cycle, less is more. You lot certainly don't stop talking about the games, even if it's mostly griping and doomsaying about the lack of news, and as they say no press is bad press, so maybe this kind of engagement is exactly what they're aiming for. After all, how many of you aren't going to buy the games because we've gone a few months without news?

I have no doubt at least a couple of you won't (or at least, you say you won't, and I'll take your word for it), but for every person who doesn't how many people are sucked into an endless spiral of discussion and speculation about when the next reveals will be that keeps the games at the top of social media algorithms? Maybe in the bigger picture, this is a better strategy. I won't pretend to know enough about social media engagement and marketing to know one way or the other, and I'm very suspicious of people who do make that claim without any qualification.
