Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet - General Discussion/Speculation Thread

Becoming a big fan of the art direction for the character designs in this game.

Some say they don't look like Pokemon characters or their art, but honestly, they just have proper 3D definiton now in shape and form, still matching their designs but just, no disappearing noses and what not.

They're more realized.
I still hate how the characters feel too realistic, but otherwise they all look great.

It's fine to not like the new gimmick but there's really no point in being upset about it. It's an optional feature, you don't need to use it
I know. I’m just letting out my personal opinion on the matter. I will definitely find ways to enjoy the game.

But I’m pretty sure I’m not alone with this kind of reaction towards the new gimmick.

At this point gimmicks are already expected in the franchise, but at least execute them well. It’s not much to ask really.

Who's to say this isn't executed well? It could end up being really fun to use in battle.

I mean I can understand not liking the carnival hats, I'm neutral on them, but we don't know yet how well it is implemented from a gameplay perspective.

While Terastal could be great gameplay wise I think one of the reasons many people find it hard to care about battle gimmicks is their tendency to not stick around for very long, resulting in them not really improving the gameplay experience over time. At least that's a large factor for me.

I get that, I'm pretty tired of the whole thing myself, really. I hate that they now seem to feel the need to "innovate" so many things about the new regions and don't keep stuff that works. Like, I really think SwSh was the first time in the history of Pokemon game where the league made sense, with the spectators and the hype and all that. But because GF probably decides that it was just "Galar's thing" we probably go back to the old gyms where some guy/gal just sits around in some building.

Looks like each adornment has these evil eyes on the center crystal. Could it be linked to another Legendary Boss like Eternatus and Necrozma? Is it just fractals of its power...can it actually see us?

the crystal forms look cool but they should not have added these stupid hats.... thats just silly and doesnt fit most pokemon. Why do extra work for something crappy lol
I guess, in game, it could help you visually identify an opposing pokemon's Tera-type (whereas just crystallizing wouldn't). I agree it's not very visually appealing though.

We did it in XY, USUM, and SWSH, don't see why that'd change.

Which direction do you guys think you'll go first? Personally, I think I'll do the treasure hunt first. I think the treasure hunt has something to do with the towers of which there seems to be about fourteen. After I do that and build my team I think I'll go right, that should put me on a path that makes the ice type gym an early gym.

I sort of want to go the Gym route first, but knowing you change to a different route any time is awesome.

The map looks kinda good to me
How many towns/cities do u see there? How is it compared to previous regions?

My plan is to wander around a bit and try not to be too overleveled to face the weakest gym first, then wonder a bit more and face the second gym, will probably try doing the three routes at the same time as I go through the gyms

This is getting closer and closer to being the perfect pokemon game. If they do forgo catching pokemon without battling then they should DEFINITELY include a Safari Zone. That would be a good compromise. The Safari Zone should work just like Legends Arceus.

I am still holding out hope for voice acting but man... Pokemon seems so against it.

I love the look of the region, looks so big, i hope we can actually explore the buildings that are shown unlike in sword and shield where nearly everything was simply part of the scenery.

i have mixed feelings about the legendary pokemon being ride pokemon lol. it kind of makes them seem less...imposing as legendaries. i wonder if all students will have one of them. maybe they are manmade pokemon that somehow possess legendary power? hehe, i am curious to their role in the story

I feel like it would be jarring gameplay wise if mechanics were split like that, though an updated Safari Zone would be cool.

I think it would a localization issue, since I recall BotW also having issues with it, not to mention lip sync issues. Though with Pokemon Masters, they honestly do now have a roster of vocie actors who would gladly voice their counterparts in mainline series games.

I think the best bet would be to give NPCs in Pokemon their own form of Animalese, just some sort of mumbling effect to convey their voice and emotion. But honestly it could just be a timing and resource thing.

I believe the legendaries are singular and we just happen to be the lucky one to find them on the coast, reduced in their power. Our treasure hunt is probably to find their lost power and their origins.

If the character creation system is truly robust, I'll definitely be getting both Scarlet and Violet.

In Violet I'll have Jalid, an Ice-type enthusiast and the late Gym Leader Salem's only son, and in Scarlet I'll have Llorona, a dual Ghost/Water specialist and Nemona's younger sister.

how would it be jarring? the original safari zone was also different from regular pokemon encounters. they could add a location where rare pokemon live and you can catch them as part of a contest perhaps.
