Pokemon Size Differences

Hello all, sorry if this has been posted before but i couldnt find anything through searching. Certain pokemon seem to have vastly different sizes when it comes to the games vs anime. Salamence for example in Jirachi he flies around on it no problem and he is an adult. In the Emerald pokedex on the other hand it says salamence is smaller than your character who i assume is supposed to be a kid like in all the others. So my question is are pokemon always like this with varying size? or does the anime just change things to what they need them to be like the orange islands being a filler?

I think they do what they need to do, to satisfy their fans. But honestly, I don't really think about it, I just let it be.

The anime changes the pokemon' size, big deal.
Whether their size differs according to age is up to our imagination because pokemon isn't real.

Glalie is much smaller than it is in the games, and Numel is much bigger.

speaking of Roselia, it's sizes are vastly different.

Roselia's supposed to be only a foot tall in the games, making it one of the smallest fully evolved pokemon in the game (Castform has that distinction though.)

however, in the anime, it's size ranges alot, the last time Drew's roselia appeared it was at a realivetly enormous 3 feet tall, almost coming up to Drew's waist.

Even meowth and Pikachu are bigger in the anime then in the games...

Basically, kinda like alot of other stuff, you can't really believe the Pokedex, when it comes to size.

In Collosseum I was shocked to see how small Roselia was. It was absolutely tiny. I think that the drawers just adjust the size to make them look better. iirc, the size and weight are the averages though, so in theory, they could be any size. And I remember a Kanto episode with loads of Pokemon giants in. I suppose they would have boosted the average up a lot. lol.

I have noticed on the Pokedex that some Pokemon like Dragonair and Steelic are measured by length, while Sudowoodo and lapras are measured by height. This really confuses me.

I just think that all of the pokemon are different because people are different and everything so the anime shows different sizes sometimes and the pokedex shows you the average size of said pokemon.Think about it in some anime episodes even the voices sound different that that in the expected voice range because the're all different.;136;

Well, humans have different sizes, dogs have different sizes, squirrels have different sizes, ants have different sizes, bacteria have di(you get the picture)...so why can't Pokemon have different sizes? Not every Pokemon is going to be the same height, I'm guessing the height in the Pokedex is an average height.

I too think Roselia is too small in the game and should be taller.

I think the people are just small. In the episode where Charizard vs. Articuno at the battle factory Articuno is taller than the Brain. Articuno is only suppose to be 5'7. People in the pokemon world are little people; thats my guess.

I've only watched a few episodes of the anime, but I remember that there was an Onix that was huge and I thought "Wow, I really want it!" then was sourly disappointed when I found out its real size

YEs, i agree with dragon knight, its just the people that are under sized, not the pokemon. But i also think that pokemon can differ in size just like any other species.

Real animals vary in size, just like humans, so I imagine Pokemon do too. Infact, if anyone pays attention to those little mini-quests in the games you'll realize Pokemon do indeed come in different sizes too. You know the people who will ask you to bring them a big Shroomish or Magicarp? Have them look at two different Shroomishs or Magicarps, and I guarentee they'll be different in size.

The size the Pokedex gives you is probably just the average size for that species. It doesn't mean -every- Pikachu is exactly 1' 8" tall.

The anime does that alot. No one would look twice at Pikachu if it was really the size of a mouse.

yep that is true. In the manga a person could fly on a swellow or golbat but they are tiny in the anime. In the game the say torkoal is less than 2 feet or something but in the manga you again can ride on one. Curse you anime.

You know, it's just a show. You should really just relax.

Remember from the episode "The Pi-kahuna"? Puka was bigger than Pikachu because of the age difference. Same with the young Pikachu in the herd. It was smaller than Pikachu.

In the real world, the majority of animals have size differences based on genders. The males are normally larger than the females. Just look at the breed standards for dogs, based on the AKC. Male dogs are generally larger and heavier than females.

Hariyama is supposed to be more than 7 feet tall in the games. In the anime, it's MUCH smaller.

I think the Pokedex would show the average size of a pokemon. The anime would show different pokemon sizes as they are not average, just like people.
