Pokemon Sword & Shield GENERAL DISCUSSION Thread [Spoiler-Prone Area]

Does this idea seem at all plausible to you?

I'm disappointing there was no news drop today. They should have jumped on that Glitch Pokemon reveal while it was hot.

I strongly disagree with that. I don't find that fun, I don't find that interesting and I won't be choosing a starter until I know the final evolutions.

I mean Pokemon is about choosing which characters(Pokemon) you play with. If we aren't supposed to know what they end up as and be "surprised" at that, they might as well, give us a random starter (which would be absolutely terrible)

I understand your sentiment, and mostly agree, but they very much aren't analagous situations. You are still going to get Grass Monkey, Fire Rabbit or Water Lizard, regardless of how the starters develop tangentially from that point. The core of the pokemon is the same, and while the vast majority would disagree, a person would be on fairly firm ground to argue that's enough to make the choice. But I agree, it would suck to do that and then get burnt by a design choice you dislike, or a typing that messes with the rest of your team. Especially given the difference between final and base form nowadays is much more stark compared to the last game I did the blind-starter-choice in way back in G/S.

Hmm, choosing a starter is even harder with the version exclusive Gyms. Even if I don't solo the games anymore I'd like one that I can fall back on, hence why most of my choices are Water types. Guess it'll depend on the secondary type and if it speaks to me.

Hope we get the starter evolutions soon, I want to see what they look like.

I made a list of what % of each type’s family is in the current Galar Pokédex compared to how many are overall to try to guess what types we are most likely to see more of. Doing families because generally what people look at is which family line they want. And imo probably more accurate than pure amount.

I made some relatively arbitrary rules and assumptions to make it slightly clearer at least to me. This isn’t supposed to be exact, just a general idea. 1. Not counting any legendaries or ultra beasts. 2. I’m only looking at the final stage evolution’s types. Not counting Larvitar as a ground type for instance. 3. I am counting Alolans since I think they’ll be in. Also will be counting known Galar Pokémon. So I am counting Ninetails as a fairy.

I am not counting water/normal/bug/flying because they always do traditional early Pokémon with those types which are basically clones of previous generations. I.e. Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, Bidoof, Patrat, Yungoos. They’re clearly not going to add all of them. And for water, I feel like the generations where surf was a thing they had to create arbitrarily more water type clones for surfing. So those I don’t think can be counted either.

I am counting starters since we know some previous gen starters will be in.

I am not counting fossil Pokémon for rock because they are ALWAYS part rock type and they’re not all going to be in.

List time. Will be listing National Dex first and then Galar dex and then %. Also, I may have mis counted even by my rules but probably only off by 1.

    Fairy: 25 nat 12 Galar 48%
    Ice: 20 nat 8 Galar 40%
    Ghost: 21 nat 9 Galar 42%
    Fire: 27 nat 6 Galar 22%
    Poison: 28 nat 7 Galar 25%
    Ground: 29 nat 12 Galar 41%
    Grass: 44 nat 13 Galar 29%
    Dragon: 18 nat 7 Galar 38%
    Psychic: 33 nat 10 Galar 30%
    Dark: 31 nat 9 Galar 29%
    Fighting: 26 nat 9 fighting 34%
    Rock: 22 nat 5 Galar 22%
    Steel: 25 nat 6 Galar 24%

Assuming the ratios will wind up being very similar in the end, I’d say there’s not many more Fairies to be added but plenty more Fire and Rock. If the number of Pokémon is 400-500 in Galar, that’s probably enough to assume the ratio of Pokémon making it from each family and each generation is going to be very close together. (I.e. ~40% Pokémon of each generation make it)

Chikorita is a pokémon you just have to use more as a defensive support compared to the others which you use primarily as attackers. Early Reflect is immensely useful since nearly everything in early game is physical. Chikorita is by far the best choice to be up against Whitney since with a Reflect up Miltank is nowhere near as scary and you can safely get its attack stat down with Growl and stall it out with Poison Powder. Chikorita is immensely useful in just getting that Reflect up and halving damage you take so other pokémon can set up or attack more safely. The only one it doesn't really work on is Morty, but Bugsy and Falkner aren't that hard to beat with Reflect support. And first to get the STAB move is also nice, Cyndaquil and Totodile get their STAB moves much later, and the first STAB is also the strongest of the three.

I wonder if the game is going to have an escort mission, I like Pokemon's escort missions so one or two might be fun.

I hope it doesn't. I avoid them like the plague in Blue Rescue Team, due to the dear Pokemon I'm escorting, wandering off and making me have to redo things again.

You know what I was just thinking, imagine if Linoone is our Pseudo Legend for Galar? It probably won't happen, but its base stats align with the other pseudos (420 BST mid evolution), and I feel like it would be funny, I can only imagine the backlash.

I don't think that people will be mad because Obstagoon is not part Dragon.

If anything wouldn't it be the opposite and would wind up in a situation where more people would worship the Zigzagoon line. lol :D

I'm all for Obstagoon being the pseudo. It'd be a rather amazing and inspiring story: in this region, the Zigzagoon line pushed itself so hard to be the best it could be that it became as powerful as pseudo legendary. Anything is possible. Zigzagoon is a true role model. It took a 10-year-old 22 years to be on top. It took ziggy & fam 17 years to rise up.

Also what's interesting is that in Hoenn, where there are 2 native pseudo lines, Linoone was not forced to take another evolution lol. Though I guess Bagon and Metang aren't really cohabitating with Zigzagoon and Linoone in Hoenn.

Well actually, it's said that the Galarian Zigzagoon, and it's evolutions, are actually the original/oldest branch of the species.. so it'd be less of a Zigzagoon rising to level of Pseudo, and more a case of all other Zigzagoon lazily falling below the level. Still inspiring, I suppose, to not get lazy?

I would rather have an original and new Pokemon line as the pseudo...

From my perspective, Obstagoon doesn't really fit as a psuedo. Mainly because it's meant to be a common pokemon (something that Team Yell will mostly have), and psuedos are more on the rare side.

I'm fairly confident that Duraludon is the psuedo legendary. And if that's the case, then I find it odd as Tyranitar is a version exclusive. I personally think it'd be interesting if they have Duraludon as a version exclusive as a counterpart for Tyranitar (whether if they're in the same version or opposite version...doesn't really matter). Which could mean that there will be a 2nd brand new psuedo legendary in SwSh, but as a counterpart for either Kommo-o or Hydreigon.

I feel like Duraludon would be the pseudo-legend for Galar. It’s got the Dragon typing commonly associated with the title, along with a powerful new signature move to boot. I don’t think anything else that was revealed up to this point would fit the moniker as well as Duraludon, but it could just as well be something else we haven’t seen yet.

Pokemon has tweeted! Announcement incoming it seems.

    Pasted from tweet:

    “Galar Research Update

Trainers, thanks to your reports, we’ve uncovered a technical issue with the announcement of our latest Pokémon discovery.

We’ve got our hardest working Pokémon Trainers on the case and hope to have the issue resolved shortly”

Such a random time of night too, lol. I’m loving the unpredictability of these last few announcements!
