I also think that at some point in the game the player is given a Kanto starter just like in XY.
Johto Starters (or even Unova) would be great with those huge forms. Since Charizard most likely has a Gigantomaxxed form it would be more than proper for Venusaur and Blastoise to have ones.
Also a Gigantomaxxed Butterfree might be funny.

Interesting. I wonder if it's for all eight gyms this generation. What types are you hoping for in either game?

I doubt it’s for all eight gyms, as that means GF would need to create 16 gym leaders just for this pair of games, which seems a little unnecessary.

Instead, I think we’re gonna only have one more case of a version exclusive gym, up in the snow town next to the castle. On the map, the gym looks like it could house either a Dark- or Ice-type specialist.

... Making the first Dark-type gym version exclusive might bring some controversy, though.

Although, many Pokemon from Hoenn got Megas due to RS getting remade in the gen that introduced Megas. It is Hoenn, not Kanto, that got the most Megas. I think that if Sinnoh gets remade then they will give it similar treatment when it comes to Gigantamax forms.

I'm actually expecting them to go a little easy on the Sinnoh Pokemon since they're only giving a limited Pokedex. Since the gen 4 remakes will almost certainly contain every species that was in Sinnoh the first time around (as in what was found IN the region, not what needed to be transferred), that gives them an incentive to bench a lot of them for the moment.

I just find it pointless because we already have a gimmick that involves temporarily changing a Pokemon's form, why not just go back to that? Nothing's ever going to top Megas as a gimmick, that's pretty much fact.
And despite new Pokemon getting it, you can pretty much guess everything else will be Kanto like Megas and Alola forms. Cause Gamefreak can't seem to grasp the thought those people that love Kanto so much do NOT play the games or even watch the anime or read the manga. They just play GO...

Charizard most certainly doesn't need more forms... you know something's wrong when fans who have Charizard as one of their favorite Pokemon are sick of it! I love Charizard, but there are so many Pokemon out there that deserve stuff more! Like Flygon, who got squat in Hoenn while literally every other Dragon got something. Or the Pokemon that need some serious power boosts or evolution like Dunsparce and Farfetch'd
Plus.... good luck topping X on best Charizard form lol

And I do love that new Pokemon are getting it, but it'd honestly be better if they were actual Pokemon evolutions. Especially as Alcreamie appears to be a standalone

I don't know about others, but i was never a huge fan of mega evolution. Definately didn't hate it, but of all the gimmicks in the last couple games it was my least favourite. Dynamax felt less convoluted and affects all pokemon, not just a selected few. Which are two of the reasons i prefer it. Gigantomax, seems very close to mega evolution. Only rarer (only certain members of a species through max raids). At first I did like it a lot, but that may have just been the giant cake talking xD I'm gonna see how the other form changes work out. Though not needing a specific item for them, plus it adding a nice side quest like hunt to find those specific pokemon does puts it above mega evolution to me.

Idk,I just prefer simpler mechanics

And i agree, more pokemon need some love outside of gen 1. There's tons of marketable pokemon from gen 2 to 7, use them dammit!

It's highly possible. It would be nice to have new forms for the Lake Trio which will add them secondary typings. And, of course, mega Arceus to make it the strongest once again.
Speaking of the Lake Trio...I kinda collect Pokemon full art cards (EX, GX andd Trainers) and it's mind boggling that none of the three got a full art card yet! I really like them, hope they'll get their time to shine come Gen IV remakes...
Sorry for the offtop. :D

They’ve had the time to make them all the other generations. What’s stopping them now?
They’ve always coded in all previous Pokémon into a new game, and they’ve decided not to this generation.

The question to ask isn’t what’s stopping them from doing it. The question to ask is what’s stopping them from NOT doing it. And the answer is nothing. At best they’ll churn out Ultra Shield. Then we’ll get Let’s Go Gen 2 (minus Kanto because less is more), and then we’ll get Gen 9. What’s in (and not in) Gen 9 is literally anyone’s guess.

It's really a shame that Mega Evolutions died for...this. Gigantamaxing is pretty much a poor man's mega evolution, except the new forms look nowhere near as cool as most of the megas do and this whole thing just screams one-time gimmick. I'd rather they made more megas than what they did here.
New Pokemon look kinda meh, to be honest. :(
Except Mega evolutions were extreme Kanto pandering until OR AS made Hoenn surpass it in number, and even then, only Kanto Pokemon were the ones to get two separate ones. There was exactly one Gen VI Pokemon that could Mega Evolve, and Kalos is the region where Mega Evolution was discovered. Gigantimaxing is available on at least three Gen VIII Pokemon, and will probably be on the starters as well. Or the box Legendaries.

I don't buy Sinnoh remake in gen 8 rumours anymore. Can't imagine GameFreak having the time to make them.
They're still making very much portable titles. Aside from the Wild Area, Sword and Shield barely look that much different than the 3DS Pokemon games.
GF's staff is still the same, they still make games with the "portable, not truly home console" mindset. It's apparent, they're still dead set on making yearly releases.
They can very much make Gen IV remakes in a year or two.

But isn’t the Pokémon team in GameFreak also divided into two other teams? One to work on the new generation games, and the other to work on the secondary generation games.

For all we know the secondary team could be implementing the missing Pokémon into (hypothetical) Sinnoh remakes.

Sword & Shield are being made by the secondary team. The primary team is working on Town.

If what I’m reading is correct, then team two’s focus is the entire “Pokémon operation”. If the team is big enough, then they could be focusing on two games at once.

Oh my. Slight tangent, I truly hope they leave out Kanto if they do a Johto Let’s Go game. Let Johto really shine and fix the distribution! I should not have to wait til postgame to find Johto pokemon

From what I heard, it sounds like it’s just “team 1” and “team 2”, with no indication of size or priority.

According to a recent dev interview the B Team are now THE ONLY team working on Pokémon. They decided the very first Pokémon main title game wasn’t important enough for their A Team and instead have that team working on some other title that will be lucky to sell a fraction of Sword and Shield.

Just saw that Game Freak are introducing outfits as DLC. Pretty funny that they have time to introduce outfits as DLC but we’re unlikely to get an expanded Dex via DLC.

Gotta get those priorities right!

Maybe I’m looking too much into this, but isn’t it possible the Team A and B stuff are just names, and the same people who have been working on Pokémon games for the last few years are still working on Sword and Shield?

The outfit DLC is just a pre-order bonus. We likely won’t see anything like it post-launch.

They said their A Team is more diverse. Does that sound like it’s just a label to you?

Also, GameFreak have had their two team structure for a while. It use to be Team A handled new Pokémon games and Team B did rehashes like Ultra Sun and Omega Ruby. Now the B Team is doing the main game.

It certainly sounds like the A Team is definitely the better team to me. Disappointing they weren’t put in charge of the latest Pokémon game.

But what about their other games like Giga Wrecker and that weird 3DS horse betting game? If they only had two teams that focus on one game each, then who’s working on those?

Some members of the B team worked on those. This is the first time that they are actively prioritizing other games over Pokemon,
