It will be interesting to see how the competitive meta evolves. I’m not a competitive player myself in any way, shape or form. However, I have a bit of a guilty pleasure of watching some of the Pokemon Youtubers (I know they are a bit controversial here so I won’t name names or anything) that focus on explaining the history of different Pokemon through the years in competitive Smogon and VGC as well as highlighting buffs and move changes for Pokemon and how that could affect their competitive viability in future generations. It’s neat to learn up on and see both what is common/popular, as well as some creative choices in each scene and even how some Pokemon fit Smogon better and others fit VGC better.
I say all this because while the competitive players have had to deal with shifting meta games, adding or removing moves from learned movesets and Tm’s, changes in abilities, buffs or nerfs and so on.....this is the biggest shift of any generation to be sure. And while I’m sure many competitive players don’t like this, I've seen how crazy they can be with trying to shake of the meta with new and crazy strategies.
I guess what I’m saying is that I’m excited to see how it shapes up.
