Hello there! I hope this is the right thread to ask!
I started playing pkmn Sword a few days ago and I've already done some exchanges through wonder trade. I'm kinda worried because I received a Primarina nicknamed freepkm.com, which I freed after I found out it was hacked, and before that I received a lv. 100 Urshifu that originally came from a trainer name eevee.vip and I did the same thing ...
Now the issue is, I don't know if I did the right thing, or if this will have any consequences on my account. I've found articles that both say I could have kept them with no issue and articles that said I should get rid of them if I want to avoid anything bad happening to my account or the game itself.
Those Pokémon are definitely hacked, and they're essentially advertisements. These people want you to go to their website if you want more Pokémon like them, but it's a paid service. They're very shady businesses, though you don't need me to tell you that. (As tacky as they are, there are enough such requests that these guys can earn a living completely on selling hacked Pokémon. I don't know how they do their taxes though.)
These hackers go to great lengths to make sure their Pokémon are within the legal limits of the games. As a result, they are bound by the same limitations of legitimate members of their species. However, they will be rejected on sight at official competitions, which have officials check every single Pokémon you bring to them. Aside from that, you won't suffer any consequences for having them. The people at The Pokémon Company, Game Freak, and Nintendo know you obtained them through no fault of your own. Some players will frown on those who use them though.
Me, I keep them in a box in the PC to use for breeding later on. The Pokémon themselves were created through illegal means, but their offspring will be 100% legitimate.
And yes, you absolutely went to the correct topic on this!
