Behind the Mask
You know how back in silver and gold we had our favorites of uber type pokemon but then came the 3rd generation and burned alot of them with new attacks and new pokemon and such and the fact of abilities is a major one. What pokemon do you think lost there powerful edge as they hit the new age of pokemon?

I think Tyranitar in Gold/Silver was as strong if not stronger then a legendary if you think about it he was strong against all the legendaries at the time except suicune (unless you added thunder I guess) Still he was a tank that could not be stopped and I really think he lost his edge with the 3rd generation. also his states never reach as high I think as they did in Gold/Silver. As I had 3 of them and all his states were above 280 and attack 360 except for speed was like 220.

I'd have to say most of the ground types lost momentum with the fact that some of the Poison-types can now Levitate due to their traits. Add the fact that they're mostly too slow as well or have bad special defense (or both), well... That's just my opinion though. I still enjoy using ground types. I've just found that my favorite one was destroyed upon the GSC generation, and has been further relegated into the ranks of never-use... That one, of course, is Sandshrew/Sandslash.

If only it learned EQ normally... or maybe if it had an alternate evolution in the next series that learns it. Oh well. As for the uber ones, I think Tyranitar hurt the most in the transition. It just doesn't play well with others, either anything on the same team or against. That's just me though.

Most mixed Sweepers/Tanks were pretty much screwed with the EV Cap introduced in the Third Generation.

Not much else to say.

Like Orion said, all mixed sweepers did. Also, Misdreavus lost the teeny bit of an edge it had over Gengar. A few people liked to use it since it didn't have the Earthquake weakness Gengar did, but after the 3rd Gen when Gengar got Levitate, it lost that. Celebi used to be uber, and then it got downgraded, too.

Back I guess??
Tyranitar isn´t bad, it´s just known as the best non legendary Pokémon.
With sand stream, it ditches those Leftovers for infinite turns, automatically, KOs Shedinja anytime, sub.punch is great, plus some EVs in defenses, it can resist any attack not fighting, I like TTar it´s even better those days!

Just 2 poison have levitate, plus Claydol is a very good Ground type, it has good defenses and works well as a mixed swepper.
EDIT: Let´s don´t forget about Flygon and Swampert!
I think every old Pokémon got advantage with the abilities, natures, EV, etc.

Psychic pokemon used to be the most powerful type. Their only weakness was bug. But there were no good bug moves back in R/B/Y. I mean LOL@ pin missle, twin needle and leech life. Psychic took a hit in the second generation, when Megahorn was introduced (120 base power bug attack). Plus the new type, Dark. They made psychics weak against ghosts also. On top of that, a lot of psychics had the crappiest defenses ever. Meaning they had to rely on speed so they wouldnt get taken out. So a Psychic getting hit by Heracross's megahoron=ouch. Plus there was fury cutter, I dont see no Psychic holding there ground against 5 sucessful fury cutters. 10>20>40>80>160...

It REALLY took a hit in the 3rd gen. Why??? It just did. However psychics are still powerful. They just arent over powered anymore. Gardevior and Claydol are good examples of powerful psychics.

Gyrados just isn't as good anymore. =(
Oh yes, Dragon dance finished with it´s utility... :/

I agree with Silver Dragon, Psychic were too overpowered, they had to have counters, don´t they?

Agreed, I had to resort to strong physical attacks to destroy sabrina. Back in RBY. Now I can just get a crunching Houndoom.

Who took a Nerf Bat?

I think a lot of guys did, a lot of types had lots of attacks available to them via TM that got taken away, especially the Element Punches, Typhlosion, Ampharos and others, at any rate I don't really think Typholsion was that popular.

Also Ghosts, with a few new Dark Pokemon and a lot more people who can use Crunch the Butt Backwards Ghost type continued to dwindle....

Dragons got the big buff with Dragon Claw as well imho.

ampharos misses ice punch, charizard wants thunderpunch. all tanks hate the EV cap.

EV's suck...I wish they were never made. It makes raising pokemon even harder. I mean a nature is cool, but why does it have to mess with your stats.

It sucks if you ask me.

Yeah I hate the EV thing. If you dont face the right pokemon it could screw up your pokemon

the only utterly useless natures are lax and gentle, because nothing that wants to boost a defense stat will do so at the expense of the other defense.

EDIT: and quirky/docile/bashful/serious/other neutral nature that i can never remember.
