I wanted to begin by saying Hello everybody
I'm new :]

Now to the topic
What are all these roles I keep hearing mentioned
such as "Cleric","Special Sweeper","Physical Sweeper", etc.
could somebody supply me with a definition to them all?

A cleric is a healer like chansey/blissey, a Spec. Sweeper is something that uses only special attacks to do as much damage as possible, and a Phys Sweeper is one that uses physical attacks to do that. a tank is a pokemon with good HP/Def/Sp.Def. to survive long enough against a sweeper to bring it down. An annoyer is one like Ludicolo that can heal itself, use Double team and other moves like that so that the opponent is annoyed because they can't hit it or something. Those are the 4 main roles, then there's a BPer, or baton passer. These are pokes that have stat-increasing moves that they can use Baton Pass on to give to other ones. Sorry if these definitions are a little non-detailed, I've got to go.

Cleric-
They usually use moves like Softboiled or Heal Bell to heal the members of your team. They generally have a lot of HP, so they can take a hit while they're healing.

Special/Physical Sweeper-
They have high speed and high attack or special attack stats, so they can hit hard and fast, before the other pokemon has much of a chance to fight back.

Special/Physical Tank-
They generally have a high defence or special defence to outlast the opponent pokemon. They're not very fast, but they don't need to be.

Annoyer-
As the name suggests, they're mostly there to annoy your opponent. They usually have moves that can do status effects to your pokemon, or can continuely heal themselves.

Baton Passer-
They have moves to raise their stats, then baton pass the raised stats to another pokemon.

Specialand pshical sweepers, use either special or normal moves to dominate the match.

Annoyer has something that annoys the **** of the bad team, ie venesaur with giga drain,leech seed, double team, toxic

good description, yes, but don't use that page for movesets or EV spreads.

shell bell isn't good, never use it if you could be using leftovers instead. also, don't use choice band on special sweepers. it just fails to help.
