If there is Kalos saga post league region like Orange Islands, Battle Frontier or Decolora Islands were what I hope for is return of several older characters.
To be more precise Ash past traveling companions being only fitting to mark in some way upcoming 20th milestone of pokemon series existence.
And post league Kalos saga would be appropriate and good way to warrant this with this type of adventurs leaving writers and directors more liberty in being more oriented toward revisit of past, previous older pokemon and older friends. Providing stronger connection to past and using elements in it toward influencing future stories if they want to!
Because its a shame to see almost every other long running franchise doing something for older fans rewarding their loyalty. Nurturing legacy older characters left behind and acknowledging their impact , stories and importance they played in shows being respected.
As noticed through projects such as Digimon Tri Adventure planning to release sequel of Digi destined original group of characters from Digimon first series. Doing sequel to their stories and lives in teen yers.
Dragon Ball following same path in being decided for sequel to DBZ to be released. Yugioh doing same thing marking 20 years of existence soon enough through special movie featuring Yugi, Kaiba and possibly rest of old gang.
Pokemon in retrospect treats older main characters, their unfinished stories, friendships existing between them and Ash and their legacy like sorry to say; but garbage.
At least so far thats the case.
So if there indeed happen to be made post Kalos league arc, I would like to see proper adaptation of Pokemon World tournament on screen,
Not joke called Junior Cup, but actual big tournament made on global scale. Divided in couple of smaller tournaments scattered across the whole region. Featuring return of some of past gym leaders, E4 members, rivals such as Paul and older main characters. Such as Cilan, May, Dawn, Brock, Misty etc.
This could serve as great excercise and way for Ash to train pokemon and learn about all kind of more innovative, diverse techniques and attack combinations. Serving as sort of preparation for taking on Champion league in case he wins regular Kalos league tournament fulfilling promise he made to win this time , or at least being more determined than ever in doing so.
And it would be cool seeing him clash against Paul reviving on that adversary of theirs.
It would be also of great help for Clemont being valuable learning experiernce in how to be more collected and innovative as gym leader, but Serena too in helping her pokemon to become physically stronger.
May or Dawn could make good use of this in seeing all kind of other trainers type specialists, champions etc in action observing different ways of utilizing pokemon defense, abilities and speed in battle helping them in future contests.
But if there was one past main character who could benefit probably the most from World Cup is probably Misty.
She wants to become water pokemon master(YES she had goal like everyone else; what a shock!). Despite many not remembering it. She idolize E4 Lorelei planning to become renowned and powerful water expert one day just like her and has big passion and dedication in learning how to use her favorite type water in most productive way. Being competitive, fiery and ambitious by nature.
Just imagine how much Misty could benefit from battling all kind of strong trainers there, meeting type specialists like E4 Siebold who use water pokemon being water master in games. Discover about new ways of leveling up your pokemon such as mega evolution learning how to apply it on her own ones like maybe Gyarados. And through battles, observarion and experience learn how to become more sophisticated and creative as trainer,.
Serving as great way to boost her skills, be recognized by her abiities and possibly end up choosen to train under Lorelei or Siebold from E4. Serving as spring board in making huge step forward in becoming water master(since E4 are best mono trainers in world).
That is what i want to see from post Kalos league filler arc.
Lot of action, return of several older characters heating up atmosphere, adding on continuity, revisiting on breaked bonds and friendships with Ash and other people they met. Delivering fresh twists and new concepts projected on pokemon storyline and journey as whole.
Because maybe its just me, but i think it would be gratifying and rewarding to see some of past characxters back after so much time doing new, fun adventures with them. Focus on unfinished aspects of their stories being given more development and learn new things thus adding more to their character. Restore on relationship with Ash, develop new ones with new characters or older ones they never had chance to meet bringing more humor, drama, flare and entertainment to interactions between characters as whole.
Recognizing their existence, contribution and impact left on pokemon anime and everyone else as whole.
