Their information was wrong because they said there were 109 new Pokemon in Gold and Silver.

The article was written after the games came out so it's weird that they'd make a mistake like that but it's a cool throwback. :)

This is an online version of a magazine article. Magazines had a long lead time. Perhaps 9 characters were removed before the games were finalized?

I think it's more likely that they simply made a mistake. Of course we know now that there were plenty of beta Pokemon that were scrapped, but it's hard for me to believe that the magazine had information about 9 extra Pokemon given that that sort of information shouldn't have been accessible to anyone outside of Game Freak and Nintendo.

Something tells me Pokemon Village focused more on quantity than quality. They seem to have been part of a network of sites taking advantage of late 90’s trends; most of their articles were fan submitted. Before the site shut down most of their updates were about general video game news, not Pokemon. Whoever owned the domain turned it into a medical blog for a few years, then shut it down when traffic died completely.

It was a prominent site in the early 2000’s; it had first page placement on Google if you searched for “Pokemon,” so I guess their strategy worked for awhile. They actually tried to bring it back up a few years ago, when Pokemon Go was trending, but half the site didn’t work, & they never finished getting it to work. I think it’s back offline now. Too bad; I had fond memories of the place.

It’s someone’s experiences playing Gold &Silver at Spaceworld ‘97.

And here’s a translation, with added commentary noting what was changed in the final game: https://web.archive.org/web/2018011...i.com/pokemon-gold-silver/spaceworld-97-demo/

A 1997 interview with Satoshi Tajiri, Shigeru Miyamoto, & Tsunekazu Ishihara about Pokemon 2, the Mew Glitch, & an N64 Pokemon title. I’d like to dig more into that stuff on the Mew glitch, but it’s too late. Goodnight.

It's a new day, & I have another link: https://www.glitterberri.com/pokemon-red-blue/game-freak-staff-interview/gold-silver-powered-up/
