Projected LeafGreen Team

Despite of all the hype over the new releases of Black and White 2, I've gotten rather bored with the DS Generation games of Pokemon. So, after playing an intense game of "eenie-meenie-minee-mo", I settled on LeafGreen. I'm currently about to lay seige to Lavender Tower, but wanted to get an outsider's look on my team.

Well, I have nothing to say about your current team choices and movesets - they look just perfect to me.

As for the 6th Pokemon...the first thing that comes to my mind is Alakazam. Can't help with its moveset though, because (1) well, I'm not a professional rater (2) almost all Pokemon have horrible movepools in Gen III and (3) you're just going to spam Psychic and kill everything (except Dark types, of course, but that's not a problem in the main game). Koga and Agatha can't stand a chance. (Oh and (4) Alakazam is too frail to do things like Calm Mind and Thunder Wave without been killed/taking a heavy hit)

Hope this helps! :]

I'll keep the idea of Alakazam handy, I just want to see what other people are going to suggest first. If I use Alakazam, the set's going to look like this:

Alakazam
-Psychic
-Shock Wave
-Seismic Toss
-CalmMind / Thunder Wave / Toxic

Keep the suggestions flowing!

Why you no use Elemental Punching Zam?

Okay. Then about Arcanine. Aerial Ace doesn't do that much, I'd probably pick Flamethrower > it. Flamethrower has got higher base power, and gets STAB. Also, combined with Iron Tail and Extremespeed you hit every pokemon at least for regular damage.

No elemental punches Alakazam because too lazy to breed or try and get all those points back at the Frontier. I did this run just to finish up my FireRed's national dex as well, and I'm not 100% sold on Alakazam either.

Thing with Arcanine is, Its Adamant-Natured, which is why I have Overheat there. Aerial Ace is what deals with the rest of the Grass-Types I find and the occasional Fighting-Type. There's enough of a difference in the attacking stats, that I've noticed Aerial Ace does do more (Flamethrower was in place of where Iron Tail was at one point) in neutral situations.

Gengar
-Shadow Ball
-Hypnosis/Toxic
-Dream Eater/Psychic
-Giga Drain/Thunderbolt
Gengar is great, the only overlap is poison but oh well. Aside from that your team looks solid.

Gengar wants Psychic / Hypnosis / Thunderbolt / Ice Punch.

Oh well, I didn't know about the nature. Then the set is fair enough.

I am still open to ideas. I have come up with an idea on my own, but would rather an outside take on it before I make it official.

Aerodactyl
-Fly
-Ancientpower
-Steel Wing
-Fire Blast / Earthquake

Unfortunately, I won't have access to another Rock Slide, so I'm going with the next best available option. I'm not 100% sure if I have another spare Earthquake, so Fire Blast is the projected move in case I don't have another.

Aerodactyl wouldn't be as good without Earthquake. My suggestion would be to use a Rock Head one with Double Edge. Double Edge would go > Fire Blast.

Otherwise , I suggest using Machamp.

Machamp @Leftovers
]Guts[
• Return / Strength
• Cross Chop
• Bulk Up
• Rock Tomb

The only problem being it won't have Rock Slide :(

I think those 3 make for enough suggestions. There isn't much available besides them. I'll think about it a bit. Here's some pros and cons I see with the three.

Pros:

Alakazam
-Fast
-Strong Special Attacker
-Makes Bruno and Agatha easier

Aerodactyl
-Fast
-Strong Physical Attacker
-Gives me access to Fly without swapping Pokemon in boxes
-Makes Lorelei, Bruno, and Lance easier

Machamp
-Bulky
-Strong Physical Attacker
-Kinda makes Lorelei easier

Cons:

Alakazam
-Glass cannon, won't like taking hits
-Really only 2 attacking options
-Does require trading, is possible, however tedious

Aerodactyl
-Have to wait until Cinnibar to have access to
-Missing Earthquake

Machamp
-Next 2 gyms resist fighting-type, making early training difficult
-Missing Rock Slide
-Also requires trading, see Alakazam

I would use Alakazam or Machamp. Aeodactyl will just not be as good without Earthquake or Rock Slide. Alakazam seems as a good choice , so I would use that.

Turns out, I cloned Earthquake on my Emerald File twice as many times as expected. Aerodactyl will now carry it.

Aerodactyl
-Fly
-Ancientpower
-Steel Wing / Fire Blast
-Earthquake

My choice is down to either Alakazam or Aerodactyl, with a slight lean on Aerodactyl, simply because I've never used it in-game before.

I would also use Aero now. But as I said consider going with a Rock Head Aero carrying Double Edge. Steel Wing dosen't get any notable coverage.
