Prologue of my latest project

The Big Al

I just keeping Octo
Well, I'm back and with a prologue no less. I've been working my latest project and after completely rewriting the entire plot with only a sliver of the original concpet intact I hope this will work out better than my last attempt at fan fiction.

Some notes
-This is based most on the Special Manga canon so some things might seem strange.
-I'm using Japanese names for canon characters/Pokemon (except I'll use the name used by the language certain characters originate from). The Japanese Pokemon names have grown on me and I've found many make more sense than the English names.
-I'm not going to into detail of what Pokemon look like. You know what a Matagogasu (Weezing) looks like.
-Enjoy and please give feedback.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A heavy frigid rain fell from an ink black sky onto a compound of old abandoned warehouses. Their wooden walls were grayed and faded and the metal roofs were covered in patches of brown rust. They were surrounded by an extensive lot made of broken pavement with lines of weeds growing in the cracks. A skeleton of a cyclone fence sat on the perimeter of the lot with many segments of the mesh missing.

A string of a half dozen tracker-trailers sloshed through the rain covered street running along the perimeter of the lot. Their cabs were painted blue and large, silver, cylindrical containers resting on their beds. The first truck turned into the open main gate. The other trucks followed. They drove toward one of the warehouses. The massive metal doors creaked as they slid open. The trucks slowed as they entered the building. After the last truck had entered the doors closed with a bang at they came together.

Further down the street a pair of headlights came on, casting their bright beams of light through the murky gloom. A yellow taxi cab sat along the side of the road.

Inside one of them a petite, fair skinned, young woman in her late teens or early twenties sat in the left front seat. She was an attractive young lady with shoulder length midnight blue hair decorated with a bright red hair band and soft forest green eyes. Her attire consisted of a cream colored sweater with a burgundy, silk scarf tied around her neck under her collar and a faded pink full-length skirt. She leaned back as peace returned to the scene beyond the rain covered windshield. She furrowed her brow as she appeared to be deep in thought.

Next to her was the driver sitting behind his wheel. He was at least three times the age of his passenger with wiry, yellowish-gray hair and beard. His skin was very tan and wrinkled in some areas. His attire was a red, loose, short-sleeved, button down shirt and blue jeans.

“It’s like a told you Erika-sama.” He explained. “They’ve been coming here.”

Erika nodded, still in thought. “How long before the others can come?” She asked.

“They should be here in about ten minutes.” The man checked his watch.

“I’ll go scout out ahead.” She opened her door and stood open out of the car.

“Wait Erika-sama.” The man leaned out of the car. “You’re our leader. You don’t need to but yourself in this danger.”

Erika turned back to him. “I won’t ask something of others that I wouldn’t do myself.” She then smiled and her voice lightened in tone. “Besides, I can take care of myself.”

“Okay,” man sighed, “I’ll be here incase things get hairy.”

“Thank you.” Erika turned back to the warehouse and walked through an open segment of the fence.

The man pulled the door shut. “You’re brave young woman,” he thought out loud as he watched her walk through the lot, “and your bravery is what we need to defeat the Rocket Gang.”

Erika scanned the lot before her. It was unusually quiet with only the patter of the rain saving the area from total silence. She shivered slightly, partially from the cold and partially from the feeling she got from her surroundings. She expected traps or guards hiding in the darkness but there was no one. She walked up to the massive doors of the warehouse. A large sign with the word “非難される” painted in faded black script was plastered to one of them.

“Condemned my foot,” Erika scoffed, “more likely the Rocket Gang doesn’t want uninvited guests.”

She then noticed a metal man door next on the corner of the building. She walked up to it and grasped the cold metal knob. She slowly turned it and found it to be unlocked. It clicked softly and the door opened.

She stepped lightly onto the concrete floor of the building. She peered around the door. The warehouse was almost completely empty aside from the trucks. The only sound was the rough humming of their diesel engines and the dripping of water through holes in the ceiling. Erika pulled herself all the way in and looked about her.

“This is peculiar.” She said to herself. “There’s no guards, no alarms, not even any traps. And where’s the other equipment they’ve stolen.”

She took out a red and white spherical device from her skirt pocket. It was about the size of a large marble but when she pressed the main button it expanded to the size of a tangerine. She pressed the main button again and the two hemispheres split apart and a mass of blue light burst from it. The mass of light began to take shape and dim. In its place a Kireihana appeared on the floor in front of her.

“Hana,” she yawned as she stretched. The large flowers on her head unfolded.

Erika hushed her softly. He then saw a set of wooden stairs leading to a platform above them.

“Come on.” She said softly as she walked to the stairs and she stepped onto the bottom step.

It creaked under her weight. Despite it being relatively soft, Erika felt as if the whole block could hear it. She slowly stepped from step to creaky step. Kireihana followed her. When both reached the top Erika laid down and crawled over the dusty wooden floor to the edge.

From there she could see the entire floor of the warehouse. The trucks were lined up in front of an object sitting in a depression on the far side of the warehouse. It was a black sphere about seven meters in diameter. It had no seems or texture, nothing but a perfectly smooth glossy black surface. Both her and Kireihana seemed transfixed it by its mysterious beauty.

“What in the world is that?” Erika thought out loud.

“I re na.” Kireihana shook her head.

The left cab door of one of the trucks opened. A boney man in his early forties with spiky oil black hair exited. He wore a black, loose fitting garb that covered from his shoulders to his toes, a throw back to the attire of the ninja from olden days. He wore also wore a cloth headband with a metal plate above his forehead with a crude skull and crossbones etched into it. His dark eyes were like two unforgiving abysses.

Standing next to the orb was a massive man a maybe five years younger than the other, standing at over two meters in height with huge muscles adding to his imposing silhouette. He had spiky blond hair that was also spiky like the other man’s but not as long. He wore a camouflage vest and pants with a black T-shirt underneath and heavy black boots. A Raichu perched on his left shoulder.

“What are Kyou-san and the American Sakaki-sama hired to lead Kuchiba city gym doing here?” Erika whispered.

“Here are the trucks Matthias-san.” The dark haired man pointed to the vehicles behind him.

“These should do.” Matthias nodded as he looked over them. “You may go Kyou.”

The Raichu glared at Kyou from his perch but remained silent. His rope like tail was wrapped around the back of Matthias’ neck and the lightning shaped flail on the end rested on his chest.

Kyou scowled at this response. “I should just go?” He repeated Matthias’ statement as a discontented question.

“Yes,” Matthias turned back to Kyou, “Sakaki put me in charge of this operation. You brought me the trucks, now they’re my responsibility and you can return to your duties.”

Kyou didn’t bother to respond.

Matthias laughed weakly and looked up towards the ceiling. “You still don’t trust me, do you?”

“You haven’t given me a reason to.” Kyou responded coldly. “I also don’t see why Sakaki-sama would want to bring an ex-military thug into the Rocket Gang.”

Erika covered her mouth to stifle her yelling. She then calmed down and exclaimed more quietly. “Sakaki-sama is part of the Rocket Gang as well as these two? From what they’re saying Sakaki-sama could even be the leader.” An icy shiver came over her body. She then turned by to the orb. “But what does that thing have to do with all this?” She turned her attention back to the two gym leaders as they argued.

“You’re forgetting something.” Matthias growled, pointing his large muscular finger at Kyou. “If it wasn’t for me, you would have never gotten that experimental drilling machine out of Michigan. Sakaki put me in charge of this. If you doubt his judgments take it up with him.”

Surge walked away from Kyou.

“Neanderthal,” Kyou spat.

Matthias didn’t bother to turn around and instead lifted his fist over his head and extended his middle finger. He then turned to a large control panel next to the orb. The panel was covered in buttons that glowed in various bright colors that flashed on and off.

A man dressed in a black, button-down, long-sleeved shirt with a blood red “R” embroidered on the chest pocket, black slacks, black leather fingerless gloves, and a black cap with the same red “R” embroidered over the bill sat next to it. His face was covered by the shadow of the bill, hiding most of his facial features.

“Grunt,” Matthias barked, “activate the generator.”

“Yes sir,” the grunt sat up and pressed a series of keys.

Almost instantly the orb began to change form. A hole formed that ran from the back to the front. It flattened out, expanding vertically and horizontally as the hole widened. After it reached the end of the transformation a six meter across opening ran through it. Several silver diamond shaped devices rotated and revolved around the perimeter of the opening. A circle of purple electrical sparks formed, connecting their inner tips. The circle then created bolts of electricity that converged at the center. A disk of silver appeared in the center and expanded outward. Once it reached the circle of electricity the circle disappeared and the diamonds held the silver disc in place.

Matthias climbed into the cab of the truck Kyou had left. “Extend the blank.” He ordered.

The grunt complied and pressed a button. A large metal slab extended from the edge of the depression. It passed through the silver disc and stopped, forming a bridge between the main floor and the disc. From her hiding place, Erika watched. A combination of terror and curiosity filled her.

The trucks began to pull toward the device. They lined up behind the truck carrying Matthias. The trucks then pasted through the silver disc like it was a doorway. One by one they disappeared. The disc rippled like it was the surface of a pond that had just had a stone thrown through it.

“So that’s what they’ve done with the equipment.” Erika mused. “But, where did they go?”

Her thought was interrupted by the creaking of the main door. A crowd of a few dozen people were standing outside of the warehouse. The men wore white slacks with white long-sleeve button down shirts and light blue vests. The women wore a similar outfit but with full length royal blue skirts. It was a kind of uniform those opposed to the Rocket Gang’s “free run” of Tamamushi City wore.

Erika smiled upon seeing them. She stood up and dusted off her skirt and leapt from the platform. She landed gracefully turned to Kyou. The others entered the warehouse and stood behind her. Kyou grit his teeth and clenched his fist upon seeing the intruders.

“What do we do Kyou-sama?” The grunt at the controls asked worriedly.

“We do what you usually do to take care of inferior vermin.” Kyou took out a Monster Ball like Erika’s. “We fumigate.” He threw the ball out. “Matadogasu, flood this warehouse with Smokescreen.”

The mass of blue light erupted from the ball and took the form a purplish-grey creature made of two round heads, one much larger than the other and pocked with craters. Under their mouths was the same crude skull and cross bones etched into Kyou’s plate. “Su,” it wheezed as a sickeningly green smoke poured from the craters.

The Erika and the others began to cough as the choke smoke enveloped them. They were blinded by the smoke and stumbled about. Erika stumbled out of the cloud. She coughed and blinked her eyes to wash the smoke from them. The smoke cloud filled half the warehouse and others were still trapped inside it. She coughed again and turned to see the device was right in front of her.

“Ki,” Kireihana was standing next her.

“There you are.” Erika was relieved she was alright. She then turned to the grunt sitting at the controls. “You…”

He grabbed a gas mask from under the controls and placed it under his head as he ran into the gas cloud.

Erika turned back to the device. It had a mesmerizing effect. It was so beautiful and so mysterious. Where had Matthias and the trucks disappeared to? She was almost tempted to step through the disc herself.

“How long were you hiding up there?” Kyou appeared behind her out of the green cloud.

“Long enough,” Erika turned around quickly to face him, “I heard everything.”

Kyou lowered his head and shook it remorsefully. “Then I’m sorry but you can’t leave here alive.” He turned to his Pokémon.

“Oh no,” Erika gasped in horror and then yelled to the dissipating cloud, “everyone, leave the warehouse now.”

“Matadogasu,” Kyou snickered malevolently, “Big Explosion!”

“Do-ga-su…” Matadogsu extended the “su” as it gradually became higher pitched.

Kyou took out a clear cubic device. He pressed on it and he disappeared in a flash of blinding white light.

Erika thought quickly. She couldn’t make it to the door in time. She then turned to the silver disc held in the device. She gulped dryly and grabbed Kireihana. She then ran as fast as she could across the bridge.

Matadogsu’s “su” was almost unbearable. Blinding light poured from the craters on its body. It then exploded in a brilliant fireball, throwing a shock wave out in all directions. The shock wave hit Erika and knocked her off her feet. She was thrown through the disc and disappeared.
