PSP or a DS?

Tip The Waitress

Nooo! I'm too young!
I really want a DS for the upcoming pokemon games and such, but a PSP is just so cool, with the internet and all. Could you guys give me some pros and cons of each to help me out? thx

PSP tends to be more fragile... in some cases, less sturdy than a iPod.... I suggest you get a DS, for Mario Kart or even better yet, a PocketPC since there is a wide selection of games you can buy and download to your Pocket PC. It's your choice. ^_^

Go with a DS. Right now it's gotten a slew of excellent games, and its future is incredibly bright. The PSP on the other hand hasn't had anything significant since Grand Theft Auto came out for it, and that's heading to the Playstation 2. There isn't really anything to look forward for the thing either, unless you want another Grand Theft Auto title that will likely be ported again. I personally don't see the internet browser as a useful feature at all, but that's mostly because I have a laptop with Mozilla Firefox on it. :p

And I bet if you ask this on any PSP board in the entire world, there will be at least three people that will say "Get a DS."

PSP if you want few ultra fun games. Good graphics, internet, MP3, DVDs, Generally like sony? But for a large price.

DS if you want alot of fun games (not ultra) but alot of fun. Pretty good graphics, and cheap price. TWO SCREEN!!! OMGWTFPWNEDDDD!
Cheap!

I would buy PSP if you had alot of money and like Sony Games

DS if you dont have as much and like nintendo games.

Don't forget that there's a good chance you'll end up with a dead pixel or two on the PSP and Sony won't consider it as damaged unless 15% or more of the screen makes it unplayable.

Internet and MP3s on the PSP is a waste right there. If you can read this, this means you're most likely using a computer. What use would you need for internet on a portable or MP3s on a handheld? If you're after MP3s, just get an iPod. o_O A two gig Nano costs roughly the same price as a PSP and hold way more music.

UMDs, the portable movies on the PSP, kill the battery in a matter of two hours.

Since you (the original poster of the thread) are already intent on getting Pokemon games, it would be better to go for the DS. Otherwise, you will end up having to buy both. If you already knew some games (you wanted for the PSP) and/or you have a lot of money, then you could get the PSP. There's a lot of stuff you can do with a PSP, but you have to know a little about computers and have a specific goal in mind.

PSP
pros:
slick and stylish; extremely good graphics for a handheld; MP3's UMD movies
cons: expensive; short battery life especially when using extras; somewhat limited library of games (at least when compared to DS)

DS
pros:
innovative gameplay; wi-fi; cheap(er than PSP)
cons: if you have a game that isn't one of the staple DS games, then it's a gimmicky-as-hell one; limited graphic capabilities

Pros to DS: Not a crappy Sony product, better reviews, more games, touchscreen, wi-fi.
Cons: Nintendo product (Still take it over Sony), battery can probably go some what, an item for theft. If the touchscreen dies that could be trouble too.

Pros to PSP: Some games that are alright.
Cons: Sony product, dying battery life, fragile... That's about it.

...yep
nweeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooo But you can't watch movies on DS can you? Portable DVD player : like 100 bucks? Maybe?
MP3: What 250 for cheaper one 300-400 for better one?
Internet Capabilities? Some amount of money placed HERE
Now you must buy the gigabyte memory cards if you want alot of songs, which are a freaking crapload. But its your choice d00d.

Good ay!

Dude...It's okay to say the DS is better than the PSP but SONY PRODUCTS ARE NOT ANY NEAR CRAPPY!!! I'm telling all of ya, many of you are saying the DS is better because of the Games and because Pokemon is owned by Nintendo. Nintendo is speciallized in Video Games while Sony makes just about anything (eletronics). The PSP HAS a better image than the DS. No doubts. But the DS has games that atract a younger audience, it has more history and all...I don't know why you said sony was crappy...

But to watch movies on the PSP you need to buy them on UMD, whereas a portable DVD player would cost you less than $100, you'd get a bigger screen, and they of course play DVD's, the standard format that work on regular DVD players, consoles, PC's, etc. UMD's work with the PSP ONLY.

The fact it can play MP3's is pretty cool, but how many people already have an MP3 player? I'm guessing almost everyone nowadays, and if you want to be able to store more than 5 songs, you'll need to buy a rather big memory stick, which by the way, will cost you more than an iPod nano.

And as for it's internet capabilities, I believe it's already been pointed out, but to be able to use them, you have to already have a PC with internet capability. So sure, if you want to browse the internet, on a tiny screen, with even simple websites taking hours to load, then go ahead :)

A few months ago, I would have been the first to recommend the PSP, or it least give a fair opinion, but now I can honestly say the PSP is a waste of money. It's far too expensive, has too many redundant features (UMD movies, why the hell are these selling?) and it has next to no games worth buying. Almost all of them are just straight ports of PS2 games, with worse graphics and less features. And now that GTA: LCS is being ported to the PS2, there's even less reason to own one.

The DS is certainly the way to go, many awesome games, wi-fi abilities, it's pretty cheap, and you don't have to worry about breaking it when you carry it around. It certainly does have it's bad points, i.e. it's heavy, and hurts to play for extended periods of time, but then again, you should be taking hourly breaks anyway.

DS, DS, DS, DS, DS, DS, DS and DS. Have I made myself clear?

DS is waaaaaaaaaaaay better! And it has Pokemon, Metroid, Mario, Mario Kart. As Nintendo hold the licences for Zelda and StarFox, there will most likely be games of these franchises.

DS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PSP

Couldn't have put it better myself. The DS just really is the way to go. If you want your money's worth, you'll pick up a DS.

Both are good i have both. =) Lucky Me. Anyway When they first came out i would suggest PSP because except Mario all the ds games sucked. Now it has good games like AA:WW, Advance wars, and mariokart. And will get the other pokemon ones remember.

But PSP has more mature games and are generally in my opinion good for pick up and play, DS is not. PSP also has generally better games now such as socom,GTA, SmackDown, hell even the old Launch title Ridge Racer is good. Also has good sports games and better graphics than DS.

So if you are a big pokemon fan or just nintendo fan go with DS.(DS also has a revelutionary touchpad, although i still don't think its that useful,
but remember that diamond and pearl could possibly be the best handheld games ever)

If you like more mature game, sports or jaw dropping graphics for a handheld and some neat features and good ones like a battery life meter that tells you the actual time u have left, and also i feature that when turned off it will resume playin where u left off when turned back on. Go for PSP if like these.

There ya go and i hope you have fun if u get a new console.

I bought a PSP for christmas, and also own a DS, here is my verdict

DS: Awesome games, Touch screen is alright, not really needed though, nice battery life, comfortable, plays most GBA games

PSP: About 1 or 2 good games, GTA going to PS2, most PSP games out for PS2, UMDs are quite easily the most stupidest thing ever (PS3 better be able to use them)

Future:

DS: Some good games lined up such as Mario and Luigi DS, Animal Crossing, Zelda, Final Fantasy.

PSP: Tales of Eternia and Breath of Fire 3

Really? I thought that was one reason why Sony has been getting sued alot recently and how the Playstation 2 dies after about a year. Oh, silly me.

Oh also, the PSP with those mini DVDs you have to buy are pointless. I mean, it'd be ALOT better to compress a movie to a memory stick and plug it into there.
