I am wondering if Psywave is better than Psychic because my mates keeps saying Psywaves better but I need proof.;249-d;

The damage Psywave does is the pokemon's level times a random number between .5 and 1.5. Because of this, Psywave only has a maximum damage of 150 HP.
So I say Psychic is better.

And Psywave won't be SE against anything, and its accuracy is bad.

Psywave = PHAIL.

Psywave can be useful at times though. For example, if you need an attacking move on a pokemon with low offensive stats.

(I'll assume you mean for a level 100 pokemon.) Psychic will do a set amount of damage each time, and for a pokemon with a high special attack stat, this will be good. Let's not foget with Dark and Steel types aside, Psychic moves work on just about everything to a normal or super effective range. Now, we look at a Psywave, which can range from 50 damage to 150. This may seem good, as 150 is much higher than Psychic's set level (85 I think, correct me if I am wrong.) on a glance. But since the chance is random, that is not really something you can rely on. I for one would choose the consistance of Pyschic, as you can learn when or when it will not work, where as Psywave it's a gamble, and thus not worth it, if you ask me. Damage is nothing if it's not able to hit. (I have the same ideals with accuracy, but that's different topic material.)

You're confusing two different things. Psywave's 50-150 is HP damage, but Psychic's 85 or 90 is base power. Psychic plz.

Wait, so it's not base damage, it's just straight up dealt to HP damage? Thank you for clearifing! In that case, I'd agree totally.... Hate to be wanting that 150 to HP, and only deal 50... X(

Not to mention Psychic can benifit from STAB. High accuracy, not nearly as risky. Psychic wins.

I remember back in the good ol' RBY days, where I gave Mewtwo Psywave over Psychic because a TM given by a Gym Leader just HAD to be better than one given by some random guy.

...

I regretted that one pretty quickly.

Psychic.

Psywave is just... no. You can do some serious damage with Psychic all the time, while Psywave doesn't always damage that much and can miss.

Summed it up quite nicely. :)

Even if it can do the most damage out of all the set-damage Moves, Psywave is innacurate and inconsistent, unlike Seismic Toss and Night Shade. If it could always do 150 damage, it'd be usable. Even br0ken. Too bad that's not the case...

Psychic all the way. :)

Psychic is much better then Psywave. It has 100 accuracy and has a good solid attack strength. It also is a TM which makes it much easier to have then Psywave.

I find Psychic more useful than Psywave. Psywave is only good at the beginning-middle of the game (like other moves considered weak for higher level Pokémon).

Psychic's power is actually pretty good, tch, and even though Psywaveignores weakness/resistance allignments and can do HP damage up ta 133,(3)% times that of Psychic, tha damage variation is random, and its accuracy sucks. Overall even though Psywave CAN occasionally do much better damage than Psychic, it's a risk I don't recommend attending because it can fail in many other ways. If ya really want a useful attack that can bypass weakness/resistance allignment may I recommend Future Sight? It damages even Dark-types. ^.=.^;;
