quick question on physical contact

One of the newest changes to the battling system is the fact that whether an attack's power is based on the pokemon's attack or special attack depends on whether or not the move actually makes physical contact, not the attack type. That was a long winded way to reiterate something you already know.

My question is, do you think the physical/special status of a preexisting attack can be accurately forecasted now?

In this site's attack dex it states whether or not an attack is physical or not. Right now the only application for this is whether or not it triggers pokemon abilities such as poison point. Is this a good way to figure out the D/P status of an attack? Perhaps I'm stating the obvious.

I wouldn't have thought that rock slide would be special and ancient power would be physical though.

No, the fact that Poison Sting is Physical when it doesnt cause Physical Contact has deterred this previously thought theory

I say rely on common sence, and when in doubt, it's physical.

Force Exert is physical, but Wave Guiding bomb is almost definately going to be a 120 power Special attack.

to add on to this with a likely way to describe what will happen is that attacks that have a physical item or body part that creates contact will be attack... poison sting shoots a stinger at the enemy and thus one could understand it being a normal attack in that way.
As for special attacks, an easy way that will likely be how it is divided is all special attacks will compose of an energy that creates damage... like a thunderbolt (seeing as thunderbolts are electrical energies).

That's a really good way to describe things, at least for most attacks. The only ones I think might break that category are most Water attacks. They do involve a physical object (water) hitting the opponent, but other than Waterfall, I can't imagine the attacks turning physical...

and I 'll add dive and clamp. but what will happen to moves like super power, or sludge bomb (maybe the most important one of all) and moves like silver wind and signal beam and overheat (? it was physical contact IIRC)( if I named an attack that was already mentioned beeing spe att or att then sorry, I don't watch the mainsite anymore (D/P news I mean), but sometimes I ask friends to watch)

and to stay ontopic, but I somehow already answered that, no, because of those (and even more attacks). And I think most attacks will be based on physical contact and some on other things.

It's because the anime makes it a projectile of needles, when I believe it's involves using like a tail to pierce something in the games (Like Drapion's claws)

Moves like waterfall are physical because it is actuall a speed tackle.
Overheat and superpower are both powered up tackles (animations can be quite fooling). Sludgebomb could go either way since it is an explosion of sludge... sludge hower is just sludge being hurled so it'll more than likely physical. Silver wind is another spore/powder attack so I'm gonna say physical there whereas signal beam is an energy shot out from the tail so that'll prolly be special.
