R/S/E Rival

I'm Back
When I first had my Sapphire in the R/S/E games, I hoped the Rival would be as good as the G/S/C Rival, for he could be called a true Rival. Half of the time, I hated him, but let's focus on Brendan/May. They have several flaws. Here is what I think:

Birch says that they have plenty of experience as a Trainer already. Why are they so easy to beat?

They are too nice. A Rival isn't supposed to be nice or give items away. They should be mean and perhaps make you hate them, but they just don't try.

The closest to a Rival in R/S/E was Wally, but he was just a kid, who couldn't beat anybody.

Sorry for my ramblings, but who agrees that the Rivals in R/S/E weren't great?

This is just a game, it's not reality or anything.
They're easy to beat because they couldn't make them uber strong, or else newbies to pokemon would be unable to beat them.
It's different in the anime and manga, since the creators can make trainers as strong or weak as they want, it won't make a difference to the people watching/reading it. But they have to make their pokemon of a certain level in the game, in case someone who isn't as knowledgeable about pokemon can learn about battling and be able to progress through the game.

They are too nice. A Rival isn't supposed to be nice or give items away. They should be mean and perhaps make you hate them, but they just don't try.

Since when does a rival have to be mean?
Rivals are just essentially two (or more) people competing for the same goal, they do not necessairily [SP?] have to be mean or rude, ever heard someone talk of "friendly competition?"

Well technically, your character is just a kid too. ;)

Wally can be considered as a rival, but he's really your protege, because of how you helped him and such in the beginning of the game.

True, Brendan and May weren't as great as they could've been, I personally would have loved to have gotten the opportunity to fight them at least one extra time, to see their starter in its third form.

But it's not worth rambling over the suckiness of the rivals in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald IMO, since all that really matters is that you enjoy the game, the toughness of it isn't very important overall.

I won't give up!
I agree that the rivals weren't great in R/S/E. They were a bit too weak and the last time you battle your real rival ( Brendan / May ) is in Lilycove City.

rival in fr/lg is much better. In emerald is so easy like you said, but It is a game, no real life.

That's what I really hate about the rivals, how you can only fight them up 'till Lilycove City.

But what really bugs me is that after you crush them in Lilycove, they go back to their house, and sit around doing nothing. When you talk to them, they say something about battling you if they see you while they're outside, but that NEVER happens! Why would they do that - say things they never live up to?

I wish they could've made it like in previous games, where you could fight your rival unlimited times, but oh well...

Of course he's better, he's the Pokemon League Champion in those games, and the champ is supposedly the strongest trainer in the world, so they can't be total pushovers.

May and Bredan sucked. They should have been like Silver but without the Stealing part. There easy to beat and take no real effort. They didnt even evolve there starer in to their third stage. There teams were simple and could have used adjutment

Heres a couple of the teams i felt they should have had:

Brendan:
1st:Starter lv5
2nd:Torkoal 16 Starter 17
3rd:Nuzleaf 18 Torkoal 18 starter 20
4th:Anorith 30 torkoal 34 nuzleaf 34 starter 36(not fully evolved)
final:Armaldo:40 torkoal 40 Nuzleaf 41 starter 45 Skarmory 39

may:
1st:starter 5
2nd:Swellow 16 starter 18
3rd;Beautifly 18 swellow 18 starter 20
4th;Beautifly 30 swellow:32 starter 36(not fully evolved)
final;Milotic:41 beautifly:40 swelllow 43 starter 45

Id have to agree the rival werent that strong but I cant complain. The game was great. It would have been nice to see your rival as a world champ or something in the elite four.

Why without the stealing part? That made GSC way better. Those pokemon are way to strong. Just imagine walking to lilycove for the first time and fightning a lv 45? Not everyone played pokemon all there life, so newbies to it would have some trouble. Why would they make there starter not evolve at lv 36? And whose to say they didnt evolve there starter all the way but never used it after lilycove?
