From searching ive read two different things but did not find an exact sure fire answer to what i wanted to know.

If i have a pokemon, level 50 with no EV's at all and i used 50 rare candys to get to level 100 would that pokemon be any good? I read that using rare candys do not give as good stats as if you level up by training.

If i use all my EV's and use rare candys on the pokemon that have been ev trained will they be as strong as pokemon that are ev trained the same way but then raised to level 100 through batteling?

1. Not really.
2. Yes.

rare candy a pokemon to level 100 and they have no EVs, they can't gain any more and they'll be missing 127 free stat points. don't do that.

if its EVs are maxed out, no harm can come of candying it up to 100.

They can still gain EVs after becoming lvl 100. So if you have a lvl 100 with no EVs at all, you can still battle a ton of wild Pokemon, and you will gain EVs. You can also give vitamins after lvl 100.

So, therefore, if the pokemon can't take anymore vitamins because they "won't have any effect," then rare candies are NOT bad for them?

Is anyone reading what I said?
When a Pokemon is lvl 100, you can still use vitamins on them. You can catch a lvl 2 Pokemon, Rare Candy it all the way to lvl 100, and then use vitamins on them, so they will get all the EVs a Pokemon could possibly get. You can also get them to lvl 100 by Rare Candies, and then EV train them normally by battling Pokemon.

conflagration, you're confusing G/S/C with R/S/E.

in RSE, level 100 pokemon no longer gain EVs by battling. you can still give it vitamins, but competitive pokemon's EV spreads always want some stat to have more than 100 EVs, which you can't get to with vitamins alone. i have tested this.

and as for when it's ok to give a pokemon RCs to level 100, wait until you get the effort ribbon from the woman in slateport market. just not being able to use one kind of vitamin either means their EVs are maxed out, or it has at least 100 EVs in that stat. if they have 100 EVs in that stat, but not in any others, you could mess it up permanently by getting it to level 100.

Well, most people don't EV train their Pokemon to have max EVs in the stat they specialize in anyway. They catch a Pokemon and just use it in any trainer battle that pops up. So the EV spread won't be 252, 252, 6 anyway. In the end, the Pokemon can still have the max total EVs of 510, either way.

Of course, it's different if you want to take your time to EV train them so they have 252 EVs on one stat, 252 EVs on another stat, and the remaining 6 EVs on another stat.
