I have several unusual and/or funny nicknames:

Absol: Absolut
(Yes, yes, I know: Bad trainer! Awful pun!)
Absol: Absolution
(In order to ease the creature's guilt to prove he's not the cause of disasters.)
Shiny Zigzagoon: Shiny!
(Yes, *with* the exclamation point: It's the word I uttered in surprise and delight upon his discovery.)
Keckleon: Kakureon (Original Japanese name, lit. "hidden crayon")
Delcatty: Deli-cate
(Yes, yes, I know: Bad trainer! Awful pun!)
Delcatty: Pyewacket
(Shakespeare FTW!)
Skitty ♀: Snookie (One of my cats at home)
Skitty ♀: Trixie (My other cat)
Mightyena ♂: Horace (Inside joke with my friend involving fanfic)
Mightyena ♀: Helen (Same inside joke, see above)
Koffing: Smoggy (Named so beacuse his prototype name was to be "NY" and Weezing's, "LA". I rest my case.)


Indeed I have also caught several Spinda strictly for their unique markings to give them off-kilter nicknames including:
* Spot (Spot behind right eyeswirl only)
* Domino (Spot behind left eyeswirl only, X-Men reference)
* Googly (Eyeswirls offset so they look like little plastic googly eyes)
* Lennon (Eyeswirls look like "Lennon glasses")

Plus I'm thinking of nicknaming my Lv. 50 Primary Team Hariyama "Tank" since that's what I always call him
and plus his HP's freakin' 226 @ Lv. 50!

If you ever played pokedmon stadium a pokemon with nichnames looked slightley different that one with out a nickname
example bulbasaur looks green but i named him blackasaur (i was 10) but it looked much more darker than a normal bulbasaur
i try to name all of my pokemon its fun to think of a name

Charizard- Pyro (Latin for fire)
Swampert- Gilrain (im a LOTR geek and this is in relation to a river in Middle-earth)
Manectric- Stormy
Pidgeot- Sora
Tyrannitar- Obsidian (A black mineral used in ancient times for weapons)
Garchomp- Whiro (A mythical dragon from Maori mythology)

Team im going to have in HG (yep im so sad ive already picked out names)
Typhlosion- Sparks (Just same name I gave my Typhlosion 10 years ago in original gold)
Meganium - Lilly
Feraligator- Niglor (again a LOTR thing Niglor means waterlilly in Elvish)
Lucario- Seth
Ampharos- Laire (means meadow in Elvish)
Espion- Dreama

One of the most fun things about pokemon I think is nicknames, I find legendarys difficult though but I ended up naming my Palkia and Dialga after other things that travel in time and space so they ended up as Voyager and Delorian respectivly

Personally I only have one pokemon on my team this play through, I'm going through it solo with an Infernape who I nicknamed Infronni, although I can't for the life of me remember why.

Well, I'm going to both rate some nicknames and put out some of my own ^^

@Dillio 686 - I think QuietQueen for Gardevoir is pretty cool, just because it's not as obvious as "SlyBat" or "AncientRoot."

@Loony - I like Infronni, but seeing that nickname makes me want to spell it "Infrony."
To it has better flow, but I like your idea too. 8.5/10

@ Wisper - I think Dreama for Espeon is neat, and I also think that Niglor for Feraligatr is awesome! When I pronounce it, I think of the name/word "Igor," but say it with an extra "n" and "L."

Now for my own! I like to have bizarre and creative nicknames, just so you know...

Aunt Vicky = Jynx

Beethoven = Delibird

G-Storm = Electivire

Limbo? = Swellow

Habeaky = Venusaur

Koomba = Dusknoir

Mr. Mama = Mr. Mime

Hastega = Dragonite

Andemonio = Lapras

Charizard: SpiritHalo (It's a conglomerate name, I know, but I've had this nickname for a long long, LONG time...Ever since Red version came out!)

Typhlosion: Scorch (Fire-type, you can get scorched by it?...Yeah, lame...but I still like it ^^)

Tropius: Draco (Looks like a dragon, no? With the long neck, and the wings? Maybe a dinosaur, yes, but still XD )

Luxray: Sparx

Pelipper: Carter (Carries messages/items across the sea. Suits him well ^^)

Infernape: Thrasher (Being a fighting type, and a monkey, it makes perfect sense)

Houndoom: Ceberus (This be an all-too common name for Houndoom, methinks, but...It suits him ^^)

Gyarados: Tidalwave (Lives in the sea, sea dragon of anger? *shrugs*)

Bibarel: Daggeth ('cause we all know that brown beaver from that old Nick show looks almost like a Bibarel XD )

Gabite: Magnus (Ground-type and dragon? Makes him sound all-powerful XD )

Giratina: Arcanus
Dialga: Altimus
Palkia: Prius

I Like BloodLust. It suits Crobat lol.

You should call Cradily and Milotic both McFlurry, the best nickname evah!!!!!!

How about Ol'Actinia for Cradily?
Actinia is a genus of sea anemone (Including Beadlet Anemone and Strawberry Anemone), so Ol'Actinia has a similar meaning to OldAnemone.

Isn't Serene Sea a location in pokemon mystery dungeon?
Speaking of seas, there's a list of seas here. Maybe you can chose a nickname inspired by a real sea.
