Raticate

Raticate@Salac Berry
Nature: Adamant
Trait: Guts
EVs: Attack and Speed, with an undecided amount in HP
--------
Hyper Fang
Screech
Endure
Reversal

Tactics:
Screech, get hit, Hyper Fang, get hit. If it looks like another Hyper Fang will take them down (or if they flinch after the first), go with Hyper Fang. If this is the turn I die, Endure the hit and Reverse it with the aid of the Salac. Next opponent comes in, Reversal again.

Flaws:
Useless against Ghosts and speed demons. Fighting types will also more than likely take him downtown OHKO stylee, so it may be best to skip the Hyper Fang or even Endure on the first turn (pfft).

Advantages:
Raticate is quick and powerful, and his Nature/EVs will help here. Although the Guts trait is rubbish on an Endureverser, it's better than Run Away and it does mean that burn is just poison but weaker.

Yay or nay?

 Well, at least I can ignore you safe in the knowledge that you aren't planning on giving me any helpful advice. Do the same and we will quarrel no more.

That having been said, does anyone have suggestions for EV spreads/alternate moves (say, ShB)? It's UU in case you didn't realise :)

Raticate is poor.
Please, I ask nicely, don't use it.
If you want an Endurevver, use Heracross.
Return>Hyper Fang.
Shadow Ball>Reversal
Thunder Wave/Quick Attack/Screech
Super Fang
@Leftovers
=Best it can do.

There, I did the helpfull thing.

I think he wants to know if it was a good moveset, not whether or not it was a good pokemon, am i right? if he wants to use it, why should we argue? he probably knows its not the best, and i actually respect him for being different.

you probably know raticate is fragile, and at best will survive 4 turns, and thats without being constantly attacked. however, it can be used well in some situations. firstly, i'd suggest thunderwave. it has 2 advantages; the speed drop, and the fully paralyzed hax! this will buy you some much needed time. i would also suggest superfang, it always takes 50% of hp of the opponent, perfect for defensive beasts with high hp or defence. for the next move, shadow ball is ideal as ghosts are immune to superfang. for the final moveslot, you could go for quick attack (for subrevvers), endeavor, substitute (works well with superfang), roar (gets rid of things you cant hit), or even hyper beam for a Stabbed, full powered finish. i wouldnt normally use it but, hey, it aint gonna last long! for stats, id suggest adamant or jolly nature, and max attack and speed. this is your best bet, as with thunderwave your likely to go first, and with max attack your definatly gonna put a dent in something! for a hold item i'd suggest either choice band (replace thunder wave), lum berry, salac berry, liechi berry, or, focus band/scope lens if your feeling cheap.

hope that helps you out, and good luck

EDIT: Tazzlers movesets are good, but raticate doesnt really have the hp to perform a rest effectively

Ah yes, I had Super Fang in my original outline but replaced with Hyper for the chance of flinching. I do agree that Raticate doesn't really have the time to pull off a Rest, and I am not the biggest fan of Return since (almost) every pokemon can learn it. Thunder wave is an excellent suggestion, I am quite annoyed that I didn't think of it by myself ;) Can spend some much needed EVs in HP then.

Thunder Wave + Hyper Fang = Free hits? I figure free attacks are quite important to Raticate's survival and the flinch chance goes up for slower opponents, doesn't it? (I'm gonna have to read up on this somewhere)

33 power makes a huge difference. Every pokemon can use it, but only normals can make good use of it by STAB.

If you like relying on the Para and Flinch hax's.

Actually its NU.

Return>Hyper Fang. Being a signiture move, it should ideally be good (imo), but it is outclassed by the 'common as muck' return.
