I managed to beat Brock. Sand-attack from Gustav soon brought Geodude to the point of missing all the time. I switched out for Big Bitey and Tail Whipped a bit. It soon got tedious because the Geodude kept using Defense Curl, so I finished it fast with a few Hyper Fangs. Onix was more trouble. Gustav's Sand Attack soon put Onix in the same position as the Geodude had been, but that damn Bide managed to do some damage to Gustav. The miraculously lucky Onix managed to score a Tackle, and render Gustav useless. So, a tiny Rattata versus a huge, powerhouse Onix. Big Bitey Hyper Fanged until the Onix managed to find out that Tackle will miss 90% of the time, then started Biding. Big Bitey's Tail Whip successfully made Bide useless, all the while weakening the rock snake. Hyper Fang struck hard, and after two of them, Onix was in red health. The Onix was as one-dimensional as I thought, and kept Biding. Just for a bit of fun, the last move was Tackle, and Onix fell. Brock gave me the Badge, as well as Bide, which I sold at the nearest Mart. Soon after, I had walloped some Bug Catchers and Youngsters, and had caught a Spearow which I nicknamed Demon beak, and a Jigglypuff, not nicknamed anything. Surprised at Jiggly's weakness, I sneaked inside Mt.Moon and got the Water Gun TM for it. Then I trained like mad until Jiggly and Demon beak were at lvl 14 (Jig) and 12 (Demon). Going through Mt.Moon, Jig put up a helluva fight, and managed to clear the path of Hikers, falling to a Zubat. Then Demon beak went on a fainting spree and managed to pwn everything (with the exception of Geodudes, I ran away from them)in sight, and we were outside. I took a rest in Cerulean City, then went and started training. Oh, and Gustav evolved. WOOT!
The Law of the Normal:

;039; Jigglypuff
Sing, Water Gun, Disable, Pound
lvl 14
;021; Demon beak
Peck, Growl, Leer
lvl 14
;017; Gustav
Gust, Sand-Attack
Quick Attack
lvl 18
;019; Big Bitey
Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang
lvl 16

I'm thinking of starting a Ground type challenge, but I need to know whether I can use the Nidoran lines since they evolve into Ground types.

I forgot what level Poseidon was at between chapters. Sorry! I'll put the level he was at the end though. Same thing with the Moves.

Chapter 6: Cerulean City:
As I walked toward Cerulean City, I found TM 4, which is apperantly Whirlwind. I pick it up, and walk away.I go into tall grass, and find a wild Sandshrew. I took the pathetic rodent out in one hit. Poseidon punched him hard, and he was history. I went into Cerulean, and healed Poseidon. I go to the back yard of a man who knows much about badges. I find some kind of candy on the ground. It is rare, as it is one that I don't see often. Then I remember that it is a rare candy. I read the wrapper. It says, "RARE CANDY" on it. I feed it to Poseidon. He looks happier and stronger. I exit his house, and enter Misty's gym.

Chapter 7: Misty's Gym:
I enter the gym. A trainer swims over to me. I fight them. They send out a Horsea, I send out good ol' Poseidon. He punches the Horsea, who then spits bubbles at me. I have Poseidon punch the Horsea again, and it is knocked out. They then send out a Shellder, who also gets a closer look at Poseidon's fist. The Shellder rams me, and Poseidon punches it again. I win the battle. I fight another trainer. This one uses a Goldeen. Poseidon punches it. (sorry, I was typing so I missed their attack!) Poseidon punches it again, and it pecks him. Poseidon rams it and finishes it off, making us win the battle. From the battle, Poseidon gains a level, and I gain 380 dollars. Everybody wins! Except that other trainer.

Chapter 8: Misty Fight:
After beating her other two trainers, I healed Poseidon and fought Misty. She sent out a Staryu. She used an X Defend, and I accidentaly told Posiedon to use Water Gun instead of Mega Punch. My bad! I had Poseidon use Mega Punch, and she had Staryu ram me. Staryu missed Poseidon, but he hit Staryu. Staryu rammed him again, and hit this time, and he used Mega Punch. I could tell we had almost defeated Staryu. Staryu rammed Poseidon, and he rammed it right back. Staryu fainted. Misty sent out Starmie. This is where I got a little worriedm since it was so strong. Misty used an X Defend, and I had Poseidon punch the Starmie. It didn't look like it did much. Starmie rammed him. He used tail whip to lower the Starmie's defense.Starmie rammed Poseidon, who then punched Starmie. The same thing happened again. Starmie rams, Poseidon punches. Then the same thing happened again, except Poseidon missed, possibly costing us the battle.Once again, Starmie rammed, Poseidon punched, and hit this time. Starmie rammed him again, Poseidon punched, and we won! On our first try with NO advantage like we had with Brock! We were so happy for each other. Poseidon almost fainted, but he made it through the battle. Then, Poseidon grew a level, and I grew 2079 dollars richer! And, Misty awarded me with Bubblebeam, which I knew would be good for Poseidon. No more Water Gun, say hello to Bubblebeam! I left, healed, and went up a bridge, ready for whatever challenges awaited me.

Chapter 9: Hello, Eliv.:
I tried to enter a house, but Oficer Jenny was blocking it. I saw a bridge with some people, and I decided to cross it. But unfortunately, my old rival Eliv had other plans. I hoped that I could beat him so I didn't look like a wimp. He sent out a Pidgeotto and you can guess who I sent out. Poseidon used Bubblebeam, and Pidgeotto kicked sand in his eyes. Pidgeotto used Quick Attack, and Poseidon used Bubblebeam. Pidgeotto fainted. He sent out an Abra, who I know can do nothing but sleep and teleport away. How pathetic. Poseidon rammed it and knocked it out in one hit. He sent out a Rattata. It used Quick Attack. Poseidon used Mega Punch but missed. Then, Poseidon used Mega Punch and knocked Rattata out. I knew what was coming next. My rival sent out Bulbasaur. I was glad it wasn't an Ivysaur. Poseidon used Mega Punch and missed. I hate that Pidgeotto. Bulbasaur used Vine Whip. Poseidon used Mega Punch, and Bulbasaur used Tackle. I used a Potion. Bulbasaur used (EDIT: I forgot to type what move he used. I think it was Tackle, but I'm not sure. Sorry!) Poseidon used Mega Punch, and I won the battle! I thought I was going to lose to his Bulbasaur, but Poseidon was stronger than I had thought!

Chapter 10: Nugget Bridge:
I went back and healed, then went across the bridge, and found some battles waiting for me. The firrst trainer told me to beat the five trainers on this bridge which I learned was called Nugget Bridge, and then I'd get a prize. I accepted his challenge. Poseidon crushed his pathetic bugs with ease. Same deal with trainer two. Crushed her Pokemon easily. The third trainer was a young kid who thought he wouldn't be easy. He was way too confident. Poseidon still hasn't got a scratch. In the next battle, that changed. A Pidgey used Quick Attack. Poseidon would have attacked first if it hadn't been for that. Oh well. After I beat the Pidgey, I replaced Poseidoon's ramming ability(which if you still don't know was Tackle) with the ability to Bite enemies. I beat her. I beat the last Trainer and was ready to gain my prize. I got a golden nugget, but then the person who gave it to me was a Team Rocket member. I beat him easily too with Poseidon. No suprise to me.

Chapter 11: Road to Bill:
After beating all of those wimps, I found a TM45. I found out it was Thunder Wave, so I decided I'd sell it later. I walked to the East towards Bill's house, and found trainers. I purposely lost against one trainer. I had my reasons. (I puprosely lost against the Slowpoke guy so when I was done with the challenge I could get a Mew. I don't have a Game Link for RBYGSC to trade from my Red game.) I picked up a TM 19 off of the ground. I continued walking towards Bill's house. All of the trainers were wimps and I crushed them.

Team Aqua (yes I do want to be a member of them):
Poseidon the Wartortle ;008; Level 26
Bite
Tail Whip
Mega Punch
Bubblebeam

Now, I shall continue my game.

As from now, I am quitting the Monotype Challenge. I can't be bothered getting up to the Mewtwo without duplicating Master Balls and Rare Candies, or catching over lvl100 pokemon. As from now, I Quit.

I plan to start this challenge soon, but I have a question first. I am planning to do a ground monotype. Question: Can you use something that breaks the rules, if it will eventually follow them? - - I plan to have nidoking and nidoqueen, but at first I will be doubled up on nidorans. Also, they won't actually be ground until their last form. Are they still legal to use for a ground type challenge?

It says in the first post, as long as their final forms match the type you can use them. And Nidoran male and Nidoran female are different pokemon, so you're not doubling up.

2004 RBY Monotype Challenge

Played through the game? Bored but want to play again? Simple, take up the Monotype challenge. The rules and ideas are simple:

  • You play through either Red, Blue or Yellow using pokemon of only one type (including Duel types who must share the chosen type)
  • If your chosen starter is not of the type you picked, you are forbidden to use it.
  • No matter how stuck you get you must not use any other types.
  • You are allowed to use only ONE set of TMs. This means trading between other versions of RBY and also GSC is forbidden.
  • As with TMs, you cannot trade between games for pokemon. This means obtaining level 5 pokemon via eggs in GSC. Trading for evolution is allowed (Machamp, Alakazam, Golem, Pikachu, Gengar). You may trade between RBY games, so long as you do so, when you reach the place said pokemon would naturally appear (ie, Electabuzz in the Power Plant)
  • After you pass certain events or feel the need to update, you reply to the topic with details on how your progress is going, the status of your team, how hard it is, etc.
  • You may have only ONE member of a famly in your team. That means no duplicating a pokemon to fill your spots. No having two Pikachus to fill out your team, or a Nidoking and a Nidorino.
  • Ghost and Dragon teams are not accepted due to lack of pokemon
  • The challenge is considered complete upon the reaching, or defeat of Mewtwo.
  • NO EXPLOITING ANY GLITCH WHAT-SO-EVER
Does having Nidoking and queen count?

OK we kinda bumped the topic here o_O...
Anyway my started al long time ago monotype is in Victory Road training... it is very weak... so Day 10 about:
Training:
Beedrill Lv.41 (ehehe)
Weezing Lv.42
Nidoking Lv.45
Gengar Lv.45
Venusaur Lv.42
Tentacruel Lv.43
If you didn't figure it out, my type is POISON. training training training...

EDIT: Managed to capture a Venomoth, whom I quickly named Motheyes and deposited Stinger for Venomoth.

;015; Stinger/Beedrill
Twineedle
Poison Sting
Fury Attack
Agility

Thank you Stinger, you got rid of Sabrina for me!

End of Day 10:
;049;Motheyed/Venomoth lv.45 (Bug/Poison with a psy attack? o_O)
;073;Cruel/Tentacruel lv.45 (What a creative name!)
;003;Bulby/Venusaur lv.45 (My lifelong ally.)
;034;King/Nidoking lv.45 (He PWNZ!)
;094;Haunt/Gengar lv.45 (Gassy.)
;110;Noxious/Weezing lv.42 (OK it's kinda hard to train him in Victory Road...)

DAY 11:
Just trying to train Nauseous... w00t it's at lv.45 now! I can finally attempt the E4.

Lorelei:
Man she was tough. She killed my Venusaur and Nidoking, but I got lucky with Gengar.
Bruno:
What a pushover! I destroyed him without taking any damage!
Agatha:
I was REALLY scared here... the most she did was some damage to my King with Night Shade though... thank god...
Lance:
I went all out with him, and it payed off. I decided to use Gengar against his Dragonite, and I found that it only knew normal offensive attacks! Meaning, I had a chance to heal my entire team in-battle, the destroy his Dragonite! It was still hard to KO though...
FINAL BATTLE: Gary
I was really scared before this battle... and I lost to Alakazam. I restarted and tried the battle again. Second time around, I pit my Cruel against Zam... and it survived Psychic with 6 HP! I got one Surf in before it finishes Cruel off. THANK GOD! Haunt put it to sleep then Night Shaded it to its doom! Rhydon purely stank, Exeggutor was being really dumb. He kept putting my pokes to sleep without realising I'm using a Pokeflute. Thank god for burns though... I burned him and Gary decided not to heal it. Gyarados falls to Haunt, and now it's only my 6 lv.45's-48's against his lv.65 Charizard... it's going to be close. Wow that was easy... I blew up by Weezing first, took it down to really weak, then he used Rage on my Cruel, after that, I finished it with a Surf.

After the battle, Oak walks in and it plays the Pallet Town music slowly. He congratulates me. He is angry at Gary because he lost so easily. I follow Oak into a small room with a computer in it, leaving Gary to mull over his loss alone. He says the room is called the Hall Of Fame. I see a cool show showing me and my pokeys. Then I waitch the pokemon Red Credits. The game restarts and I find myself in Pallet. I save my progress, then proceed to change the color scheme. I heard rumors of a super-strong pokemon I learned a little about in the abandoned Pokemon Mansion. I heard that it is a Psychic type. Since I am Poison Master, I decide to defeat it.

END OF THE GAME: Mewtwo:
Incomplete.

Do you not understand the "No trading from GSC" part of the rules?
You catch a Poliwhirl when you can, then you trade for Jynx in Cerulean.

At Mount Moon, trying to catch a good stat, low level Paras to add to the party.
So far been good, easy to train bug pokemon, especially with no real challenging trainers or wild pokemon threatening them just yet. Was a bit worried about the youngster on route 3, his lv 15 spearow didn't end up using peck though! lucky me :p

Boulder Badge: Easy with Butterfree's confusion
