it's been almost 30 game hours since I defeated the Elite 4, And i only have one fully EV'd pokemon (Sceptile). And with all the work that goes into planning movesets. EV training, choosing jobs for my team members (like special sweeper or Physical Tank), etc, etc, etc...I'm starting to feel like I'm makling a team for competitive battling rather than the Battle frontier.

And on top of that, I'm still having trouble knowing what EV spread to use for my pokemon. I want to move past the 252/252/6 that rookies use, but I'm not sure how I can know what EV spread will work best.

i guess what i'm trying to get at is if I'm trying too hard. Is all the EV, IV, breeding, and other stuff neccesary for the Battle Frontier? Otr am I just overworking myself with stuff that isn't really needed?

It's pretty much needed unless you feel you're as lucky, or luckier than the CP.

For the ONLY way to trump the Battle Frontier is to both use the best Pokémon there are and train them to their best so you can tweak their beefed-up luck... :(

I dont even do that 252/252/6

I do 100 a piece in the most important stats...(when i breed pokemon)

Wich is like 3 or 4. Then I max out the most important

If you dont know how to do 100 a piece, just give it 10 vitamins of the specified stats. If I wanted 100 attack EV's I would feed the pokemon 10 protein drugs. Because one drug=10 EV points

I use Pokemon that evolve 3 times to get way better maxed out stats then beef them up with protiens and such. Then I breed them together to have ultra-strong pokemon such as a Flygon with hydro-pump and thunder.

Okay, so IV/EV stuff is a must, as well as great movesets (Which Smogon can help me with). I just need to choose which pokemon I'm going to use (Sceptile is something I will use, and i'm considering Metagross, Gardevoir, and Salamance

its needed. have you even tryed to take on BF? its rather hard but I just finished EV training a salamence and a tyranitar so then I will EV train a lapras so then I can take on BF. tis gonna be hard.

I dont know why, but I find BF easier than G/S/C's battle tower..

The people in the tourneys and such use under evolved pokemon.

Yeah, they get alot harder to battle later on, like in the Battle dome, I used Momiji, Kagura and Yuki (see below) and they went really well. Noting that I beefed them up by breeding and protiens.

What? Flygon can't learn hydro pump or thunder!!!

EV training does take a long time, especially when you have to earn money to purchase vitamins. Money is hard earned in R/S/E, since you have no VS seeker to battle whoever you want, and there aren't as many rich bag trainers out there in Hoenn... :( Then if you don't have the macho brace and/or the pokerus, you have to fight pokemon to ev train. That can take a while, as you may have to battle 510 pokemon to max out your evs, and depending on where you're training, you might have trouble finding the pokemon that gives EVs to the stat you're training in. But the good thing with having to fight hundreds of wild pokemon is that you run a chance of finding a shiny. :) Ev training really does almost feel like training up a competitive team. You gotta ev train your pokes if you want any shot at winning in the higher rounds of the battle frontier.

I dont buy vitamins, I use BP to buy them. They only cost 1 point.

Not true, my Flygon does, I bred it with pokemon that do know those moves and then once one move was added I bred it again and got those moves, newly hatched Pokemon inherit moves from their father and thats how i got my Hydro-Electric-Dragon Flygon.

Hmm... that's weird. A baby pokemon can only learn his father's TM if the mother is able to learn that TM, and Flygon couldn't learn Hydro Pump or Thunder, but Fire Blast or Flamethrower does.
Well, for frontiers, I use my 3 Hoenn starters pokemon: Sceptile, Blaziken, Swampert. They all went well and have claimed all Silver Symbols. I wanna use Dugtrio soon, as well as Starmie.

Alright then, I'll go into detail, I bred a Gyrados with my Vibrava, then I got my hydro trapinch, then i bred the trapinch with a Manetric and got thunder, then the Baby Trapinch was a Hydro-Electric then I evolved it twice to get my Hydro-Electric-Dragon Flygon.

;130; + ;329; = ;328; + ;310; = ;328; then evolve twice and ;330; there you go.

It sounds rather complicated and takes alot of time but it works.

Yeah they can, for one a Dragon type can learn Hydro-Pump, and by the Tm Thunder, and if you breed those pokemon with those moves it is possible to have a pokemon with moves that it wouldent level up with.

That is correct, but Trapinch does not have Hydro Pump as an egg move, nor are there tutors for it, nor does it learn it by level up.

Bagon can learn Hydro Pump by egg move, if that's to which you are referring. It is also the only non-Water type that can learn it by breeding (not counting Masquerain - who's Bug/Flying - since its pre-evo is part Water).

Also, none of the Trapinch line can learn Thunder as a TM or by breeding, so you are saying that you've managed to teach a Pokemon moves it cannot physically learn. Seems a bit odd.

Then why dont you try it yourself and findout
Because I know it won't work?

It's not in the game's programming for Trapinch, Vibrava or Flygon to learn Hydro Pump or Thunder, so there's little point in attempting to breed such moves onto a Trapinch.

Also, your explanation said you did the following:

"Male Gyarados + Female Vibrava = Female Trapinch + Male Manectric = (gender) Trapinch"

You can only breed moves on from the male, so by that example, Trapinch would've lost Hydro Pump when breeding with Manectric anyway. So your example is flawed.

On my Emerald, it's been about 30 hours since I beat the Elite Four and I only have one fully-EV'd Pokemon, a Raichu which I'm probably not gonna use because of it's terrible moveset.

A good way to earn lots of money for vitamins and such is beat the Elite Four over and over holding the Amulet Coin and you'll get around 60,000 each time. Also beat the Gym Leaders holding the Amulet Coin and you'll get 20,000 each battle.

The only battle facility I've been to is the Battle Factory so my knowledge is limited but from my experience, neutral natures seem to work well in most cases along with a varied moveset.
