It was dreadfully obvious that Mime Jr. and Bonsly were brought in to advertise the DP games, and I think even if they weren't version exclusives they would still of been brought in to advertise the games.

the fact that may has munchlax, james has mime jr and brock has bonsley should be proof that they will be in the pearl/diamond saga of the anime. maybe max will go off to be a trainer on his own and leave the group, and replaced with hikari. or maybe the'll have a group of 5 heroes
