So I'm debating whether or not to get a 3DS, but haven't seen much in favor of it.
Essentially, the only reason I even own a DS is for Pokemon; I really don't enjoy playing any other games on a handheld. BW2 will not require a 3DS, but since I'm getting a new DS anyways, it makes the decision more difficult.
I'm also wary about a new Pokemon generation being released for the 3DS in the future, but then again, there are usually several years between generations.
It's possible that there won't be a new generation until the release of an undetermined system in the future, or even that there will not be a future Pokemon generation. This time, they might actually have to overhaul the entire code, regardless of whether or not Pokemon really should be overhauled to a 3D world.
I've also heard that the 3DS is not as durable as the older models and that the screens scratch easily. I've had my DS Lite for years now and I'm very satisfied with its durability and functionality. I don't want to sacrifice any of that durability for fragile/unreliable hardware.
So, with the absence of Pokemon, is there anything else the 3DS can do? I believe a DSi would be able to play my audio files and I don't really care about cameras, 3D or otherwise. Unless there's a strong hint that a future Pokemon generation is around the corner for the 3DS, I just can't convince myself to buy it over a DSi.
Any advice?
