- Preferrably, provide a link if you are recommending a fic, but do not link to forum threads at other forums containing it unless that is the only place where it can be found.
- No, your own fic does not count. Even if it really is the best thing since sliced bread, people aren't going to take it seriously if you're the person who claims so. - If you've just read something and been mesmerized by it, by all means post it here. Tangled Web by ChicRocketJames
I was just now discovering that apparently this has been discontinued, but what a horrible pity. This guy is amazingly talented. The style is just right, it has tasteful humour in the right places, some of the best Pokémon characters I've ever seen in a trainer fic, a very thick plot, and a brilliant in-depth view on the Pokémon world.

The Last of Its Kind by ChicRocketJames
This is a one-shot, but has the same brilliance that Tangled Web has. It's horror; very creepy and chilling. I really just recommend ChicRocketJames himself, if he ever publishes more.

Guilty by Design by Iveechan
Her portrayal of an abused Pokémon is amazing, the characters leave an impact, and the plot is very moving.

Me and My Flame by Wild Charizard
This is a completed, full-length novel primarily about Charizard, but other Pokémon species also come in. What I especially like about this one is how it portrays different Pokémon cultures, making the world seem to come alive. It's R-rated, though, so be warned.

This story's hilarious! Characters are written well, grammar looks good as well as the plot. Klaus does a good job with the basics and it'd be interesting to see what comes next. Great pokemon fic that doesn't follow the tried and true trainer fic.

Sure it's similar to the other four elements fic and one becoming an avatar of each. It's really good so far. Let's hope the author keeps it up. I personally think it's good so far. It's just a different way of telling the story. It's all in the execution. Everything looks good so far.

A completed one-shot, it's a haunting narrative of beauty in the eyes of a Gyarados. It was the one-shot of his that first hooked me into his captivating writing.

Chibi Pika: The Legendarian Chronicles
Where do I start? It's all so epic. But it involves a vast war, and the Legendary Pokemon, and a lot of destruction. I strongly urge you to read it.*hides sledgehammer behind back*

Burnt Flower: Two of a Kind
Insane, terrifying pyromaniac May, and a terrorized Misty, complete with maggon-ridden corpses in an old laboratory. Horror at its finest.

Sike Saner: Communication
The life and times of a Snorunt called Solonn, with an eerie power to imitate ANYONE's voice in ANY language, regardless of whether he knows how to speak that language or not. Beautiful descriptions and fascinating characters abound here.

-from the Pixar movie "Incredibles". Despite the fact that the main character is a blatant self-insert, the fic is extremely well-written and even... I daresay... believable. Plus I love the way Syndrome is portrayed, and even the self insert, "Vexxation" (or Sharon), is a very likeable character.

Requiem Of A Dream by Saffire Persian
This fic is simply awesome. SP really captures the audience's attention with stunning character development (Castor really does hold the true essence of Absol), excellent description and a rich, flowing narrative. A must read.

The Heart Of Desire by StrayedBullet
A fic that hasn't recieved as many reviews as it should have. It may seem like a trainer fic (girl gets Pokemon etc etc), but under all that lies a thickening plot to save the very world itself. Interesting use of nicknames and Pokemon communication, excellent description and hints of comedy veiled by the forbidding tone of the first four chapters. SB is making an epic of her own here...

Pokemon Impact 3 by Brian Powell
You all know THIS fic, right? Into a third season now, BP shows no signs of stopping in this fast-paced story about a reformed Team Rocket member. Comedy aplenty, with more and more cameos and new characters being introduced. Worth time reading back across the previous seasons also.

The story of a reclusive woman whose life is changed when she befriends a runaway Hoppip.

Our two days in “Tacky” Prickleback Town were rather uneventful. I continued to coach Zephyr in her Razor Leaf lessons, and Micto managed to get his Metapod to evolve. He named his new Butterfree “Jary” and started training his Kakuna as well.

We had tried—unsuccessfully—to teach one of the Magikarp one of my TM’s. Fortunately, I didn’t waste the TM—they were incompatible so it didn’t do anything. Micto was about to use his dwindling funds to buy a water TM from the local Mart when one of the Nurses confirmed that Magikarp can’t learn attacks by TM!

Micto’s mother was worried, but he managed to talk her into letting him at least get a license. She wanted to talk to Professor Oak herself before allowing her son to go on an actual journey!

I realized that I was getting used to Calda. The Vulpix had a sweet nature and didn’t seem inclined to singe me. I was still extremely cautious around her, but I think my unreasoning terror is going away.

Nectaar surprised us all by evolving into a Gloom the afternoon before we were to leave on the bus. From hearsay, and the encyclopedic memory of one of the Nurses, generally Oddish don’t evolve so quickly, and that by all rights, Zephyr should have evolved before Nectaar. She spouted some nonsense about levels and experience, which I promptly forgot, and finally gave up and attributed the unusual development as a “quirk.”

I made sure all of my clothes were clean, and took the opportunity to make sure all of my Pokémon were groomed. I would say “bathed,” but Flim-Flam dislikes being immersed in water—he just got a good rubdown with a damp cloth.

During our journey, the Wind had been nearly nonexistent. I figured that it was rather pleased with itself for getting me to finally leave my safe garden and had decided to bother someone else as long as I was doing what I was “supposed” to be doing. It picked up a bit during our “break,” but didn’t misbehave.

I learned in Prickleback why we hadn’t run into any Gyms yet. It seemed that this region didn’t have an official league, and people were reluctant to start one with the famous Gyms of the Kanto league a day’s ride to the south. The Johto League was nearly as close—an extra day’s walk from the official starting point of the Kanto league.

Like my little home near Virescent City, most of the Trainers in the entire area were passing through to more famous places.

Wings Of Hope: Seadra Reef

The story of a race of winged people who are being persecuted because of their ancestors' misdeeds.

Extract:

I sat down in the grass and admired the view. I figured we were going to be there all day, since getting there took atleast an hour and Mason had some sandwiches packed with him. I watched as he finally got out of the car and lean up against it and put on a pair of black sunglasses. He had his arms crossed, which seemed to flex his muscles.

"Come on, don’t waste any time." Andy said from behind. I spun around to find her kneeling down behind me, resting her arms on her knees. "If you’re gonna learn to fly, you can’t waste your time staring at Mason."

I blushed, it occurred to me that I was looking at Mason for more than a few moments—it was more like five minutes. "I wasn’t staring at him… Um… I was just admiring the trees behind him!" I forced each word out of my mouth with a struggle.

For the first time I had ever seen, Andy laughed and slapped my back. "Real funny there, Seadra." She smiled at me and got up. She closed her eyes tightly and seemed to be struggling when her wings erupted from her back and spread out. It didn’t seem to hurt her at all. "Come on, Seadra, get your wings out and let’s fly."

I gulped nervously and forced myself to get up. Once I did, I did what Victoria had told me to do the previous day in order to spread my wings. I pushed from my back and soon, I felt the same pain I felt before when I first spread my wings. Fortunately, this time the ripping and tearing feeling wasn’t as bad—which was a relief.

Andy smiled, "Okay, now you gotta learn how to control them properly. Try flapping them." It was odd, I thought she was going to be all rough with me, but she was actually being very gentle and kind. I guess she understood that this was my first try and there wasn’t much she could expect from me.

The previous day, I found moving my wings no different than moving your arms and legs around. I began to flap them, but not very fast or hard. I figured if I did, I could start flying and I was a bit nervous about it, since I didn’t know how to land and I didn’t feel much like having Andy yell at me.

"Okay, Seadra, that’s a good start. It seems you have good control over your wings, which is a good sign—not everyone can control them well. Carol found it very difficult at first." Andy smiled at me and spread her wings out as far as they could. "Now, to take wing, the best way to do it is with one strong flap with your wings. Make sure they push a lot of air down when you do it. Once you’re in the air, everything will come by naturally. If you’ve ever pretended to be a bird as a child, this will be easy."

I nodded. When I was very young, I always wished I could fly like a bird. I would jump off my parent’s bed, flapping my arms like nuts. I remembered the one time when I was convinced I flew for a split second. I took a deep breath and spread my wings out. I then angled them so when I flapped, the air would push me up. With one strong flap of my wings, I felt myself raising in the air. I knew if I stopped flapping, I would end up falling, so I flapped more and more. It didn’t take long before I was atleast 10 feet above the ground. Unfortunately, I think my wings were too weak, because they began to get sore and I was getting tired. The worst part was, I didn’t know how to land.

Andy noticed the problem as I struggled to stay in the air. I was scared of trying to land, so I did the only thing I could—stay there. With one strong flap of her wings, she was at my height and grabbed me by my waist. I held onto her arms as she slowly began to descend to the ground. I was relieved she helped me when she did, because I knew my wings were about to give.

Once on the ground, I fell to my knees and sighed. "I’m sorry, Andy. I got tired and my wings were hurting…" I hopped she wouldn’t get mad.

Andy kneeled down beside me and put one of her hands onto my shoulder, "Don’t worry about it. Your wings aren’t strong enough yet. You have to make them stronger by just flapping them, but not flying. Got it?" I nodded. "Okay then, when you get your strength back, just flap. We have all day and I’m sure you’ll be able to fly some and be able to land by then."

I looked up at her. It amazed me how she managed to get 10 feet above the ground with one flap of her wings, while it took me several flaps and by then, I was too tired to stay there. "Andy, when will my wings get strong enough like yours? You got so high with just one flap."

Andy sat down beside me, holding herself up with her hands on the grass. She looked up to the clouds in the sky and smiled. "It varies. Some people learn really fast, but some don’t. Carol still has difficulties sometimes. Victoria can fly without any problems though. She’s the best flyer of us all. Carol couldn’t even get into the air at her first try. You had a good start, so don’t worry about it so much." It was then Andy’s beautiful Ninetales ran over to us and nuzzled up to her side. Andy laughed, "Ninetales, go back and play with Seadra’s Raichu and Eevee, okay?"

The Beautifly Effect: Raichu

A story based on the "butterfly effect" theory.

Extract:

Richie took stock of the situation. In a very short time he had fallen head over heels for Misty. Misty gave every indication of sharing the same feelings. It was sudden, sure, but they had known each other for years. Evidently, Ash also had some feelings for her—by the look of it very strong feelings. Ash and Misty had had an argument of some sort. Over what? Maybe she told him she didn't like him? He couldn't say.

What were his options? He had arranged to meet Misty for lunch. He would have to be a few minutes late. He couldn't just ignore Ash, fighting his friend was out of the question, and Ash did not appear to be in a reasoning mood. Probably the best thing was to tell Ash that he'll talk it over the next day—might give Ash a chance to cool off.

Presumably Ash meant to meet in the secluded access lane behind the stadium. On the way, Richie released his Pikachu from its Poké ball.

"Sparky," he enjoined. "Listen, fella. Ash's mad with me about something. I need you to look out for me, just in case. But whatever happens, don't fight Ash's Pikachu."

"Pika..." Sparky replied solemnly, cocking its head in concerned perplexity.

Richie's mind was struggling to put together the facts into a meaningful whole. He had had no idea how strong the feelings could be that led to what happened last night. For goodness' sake, he didn't even believe in going that far before getting married. But it happened, and both of them would have to live with it. Richie could understand why Ash would be so angry. Trouble was, he also knew his friend was guaranteed to act rashly rather than reasonably.

Richie reached the lane. It was a concrete pathway, about four metres wide, running the length of the stadium between it and the edge of the Plateau. He stepped over a chain that barred access and looked down. About thirty metres away there was a dark figure with a small yellow thing next to him. In spite of the warm sunny day, the stadium cast a shadow over him. A current of wind blew unpleasantly along the path from behind, as if to drive him forward.

He didn't feel like going through with this, but he had to try. Misty had a right to choose who she liked, Ash had to grow up some time, and Richie wanted to salvage his friendship with Ash. Not an easy task to fit those three together.

Somberly, Richie walked up to Ash, Sparky at his heels. Sparky and Pikachu exchanged a worried look.

What's this? Only 13 chapters long? 13 massive chapters with oodles of detail and description. Set in a post apocalyptic future post Indigo League anime (practially absent of any GSC influence besides Misty's Togepi). Some shipping, but not so blanent it spoils the story. Dark, deadly, disturbing.

Hello fanfic readers and/or writers. I'd like to recomend a very interesting and promising fic. It is called Pokemon High school and it's that fic that many pokemon viewers have always dreamed of...What if Ash and Co were in high school and faced high school challenges except with a pokemon twist. So far the chapters I've read made me place a 5/5 star rating and I abolutly love it. I was amazed and just loved how the author took something that is looked on as forbidden (using Ash and Co.) and actually pulling it off. Here is the link, you'll really like it.

The basic plot is as follows: Earth is being torn apart by war so the authorities are sending people into space to colonise another planet. Sike Saner: Communication and The Origin of Storms

I'd highly recommend both stories by Sike Saner for anyone who's looking for an enthralling, and thoroughly entertaining read. Both of her stories are told from a Pokémon Perspective (Origin a Wobbuffet, Communication a Snorunt) which is a nice, refreshing change.

Scrap: Sin

Sadly discontinued, the story is still worth reading. With an awesome story-line, with both three-dimensional human and Pokémon characters alike. Once you begin to read, you'll never be able to get out. I'd also recommend any of Scrap's other one-shots, such as Fresh Fish (which has a surprising twist) and the unconventional Pearls Before Swine.

xXxSaberxXx: Pokémon Revelations: Cross of Fates

The story is based on Fire Red/Leaf Green, but don't let that stop you from reading this quirky tale of three trainers. Saber takes the typical and turns it to the atypical in the blink of an eye. Her characters are realistic, and her dialogue is pure gold - I've gotten so many laughs out of it, it's not even funny [/badpun]. But in any case, if you're looking for action/adventure and even a little romance, this is definitely for you. ^_^

Serpent Syra: Rhapsody

Syra is perhaps the resident 'purple prose' writer of the SPPF forums, and I mean that in a good way. His way with language will amaze you (It amazed me), and he never ceases to make the narrative the most colorful you've ever read. His current Fantasy novel, Rhapsody, is no exception. With the Slinx Insanity Virus running rampant, there's never a dull moment.

Mindripper: No Man is an Island

Even though Mindripper has vanished from the forums, his fiction is still around. Though only two chapters long, No Man is an Island is a perfect mix between heavy description, and extremely quotable dialogue.

Negrek: The Ninetales' Curse and Clouded Sky

Though only the former is on the forums, both stories are very enjoyable and fun to read. Negrek knows how to interweave interesting story and action together - not to mention she has a style which lets you see through both Human and Pokémon POVs - which is always a plus. Note that Clouded Sky is an Original Trainer piece that centers around a new region and new Pokémon.

blackemerald: Deceiver

One of the newer authors to the forums, blackemerald has a talent for description reminiscent of Serpent Syra's. Deceiver's plot is very intriguing, starting out in a way that no one expects. It's full of quirky dialogue and serious moments alike - definitely a read you don't want to pass up.

Act: Reflect

Reflect shows another awesome style of writing that is not often used. The narrator is not only vibrant, but he/she/it breaks down the 4th wall with amazing effectiveness, while at the same time, telling a compelling story that has an awesome amount of character development, and is rich in those tiny details.

Ash_Junior: Hell Hath No Fury: An Ice Queen's Legacy and Retribution

I'm tempted to recommend the old version of Retribution just because it rocks in all it's .. umm... oddness? Oh! And because of the sticks and stones, dangit! Nevertheless, the revision is definitely worth reading, if not to see the amazing improvement. I'd recommend Hell Hath no Fury because of the strong female leads, and the presentation of Animé characters that are often shafted (Bruno, Lorelei, Lance...)

Pinecone Tortoise: COUNT -- The Voyage and Soultaker and Mindbreaker

Voyage is the only 'fic on the forums at the moment, but I would recommend both. Count is yet another journey into the realm of the animé characters several years older in a way that you've never seen them portrayed, as well as new, entertaining characters. Soultaker and Mindbreaker has been discontinued, but this particular Horror story is what immersed me in her awesome writing. I hope maybe she'll continue it one day -- and even better, Repost it! ;_; I miss it.

Quackerdrill: Pressure

For Quackerdrill, his strength lies within his narration and the use of the First-Person POV. Awesome dialogue coupled with a mysterious storyline, it's definitely worth checking out.

Iceking: Whirl Island Quest and A Scarlet Christmas

Our resident humor author with a perchant for horror. Whirl Islands is purely humor-based and is a nice break from more serious fictions. XD As for Scarlet Christmas...lets just say you'll never see the North Pole the same way again.

Neo Pikachu : Author of The Trial of Juno Neo Pikachu is another person with a talent for the First Person POV.
cyndaquil_dratini: Author of Alexi. Relatively new to the forums, he shows an extreme talent in his first OT fiction.
Cheshire Cat With his professional narratives and stories, many of which have been sadly discontinued, his stories are something you shouldn't miss.
Silawen: Another new author with a great OT fic Caught in the Moment
Stellarwind: Another OT writer with her fic Resonance , who has been sadly overlooked by many.
