In lucid awakening
Ok, some of you have probably heard of the Red/Blue Orb inconsistency in the recent PokeSpecial volumes. As it would create tremendous confusion to readers who only read the summaries (actually to people who do read the comics also
), I've set up this poll to get everyone's choice on how the summaries on the site should handle these orbs.
Now, let's begin by the artwork of the two orbs. In the manga, the two orbs are depicted in two different ways:
1) one with electric-current/stormy like pattern
2) one with fragmented/earthcrust like pattern
What we are certain of is, the stormy one has powers to control Kyogre, while the earthcrust one has powers to control Groudon. There's no dispute about this. But here's the problem, the stormy one is sometimes referred to as the Red Orb, and sometimes as the Blue Orb. The same happens to the earthcrust one.
This means there are currently two colour schemes:
1) Stormy=Red, Earthcrust=Blue
2) Stormy=Blue, Earthcrust=Red
Evidence that supports the scheme 1:
1) Chapter 229: When the orbs are first showcased in the pillars at Mr. Pyre, the old couple are describing the orbs, and the word Red Orb is placed next to the stormy one while the word Blue Orb is placed next to the earthcrust one
2) at the special feature section of volume 20, where stones and orbs are discussed, the caption for the earthcrust one says Blue Orb, and the caption for the stormy one says Red Orb
3) Chapter 259: the stormy orb has entered the body of Sapphire while the earthcrust one has entered the body of Ruby. When Ruby tells Sapphire to expel the orb from her body, he says 'can you take the Red Orb out from your body for a moment?'
4) evidence from the GBA games: in the games, Maxie took the Blue Orb to control Groudon, while Archie took the Red Orb to control Kyogre
Evidence that supports the scheme 2:
1) Chapter 234: When Maxie is about to use the orbs at the Seafloor Cavern, the moment he mentioned the orbs, he says Red Orb and Blue Orb, and in the picture, the earthcrust one appears before the stormy one
2) Chapter 236: When the Mt. Pyre old couple explains the orbs to Winona and Sapphire, they say Blue and Red Orb, for controlling Kyogre and Groudon. Also, the placement of words and artworks also suggest that the stormy is Blue and the earthcrust is Red
3) Chapter 242: When Sean steals the stormy orb from Tabitha for Archie, more than once they remark that they are stealing the Blue Orb to control Kyogre
4) Chapter 248: When Rbby and Sapphire are about to retrieve the orbs from Maxie and Archie. The screen showing Maxie and the earthcrust orb reads 'the Red Orb that controls Groudon', and the screen showing Archie and the stormy orb reads 'the Blue Orb that controls Kyogre'
5) also, evidence from games: in a way, you can argue that Maxie took the wrong orb (Blue) so he couldn't control Groudon, and Archie also took the wrong one so he couldn't control Kyogre, coz in the manga, both men did manage to control both titans for a while
So, very long pararaphs. Just to gather your opnions. Of course, if the writers one day realize their mistake and either give an explanation to the inconsistency, or standardize it, we'll follow their way. But until then, I'll follow the majority's opinion.
