From what I interpretated from the rules, the maximun rating is actually 'R', but must not stray into the 'NC-17' category. I'm still a bit confused, so a bit more info about this would be much appreciated. ^^;

I really wish we didn't have to resort to using these heathen American ratings which no sensible person could hope to comprehend. Serebii being english, I'm surprised he didn't force you all to use sensible british ratings which actually make sense! In addition, I think all American posters should be forced to drink at LEAST two cups of tea a day, with two teaspoons full of saltwater in each, three if they live in Boston.

Seriously, I'm having trouble understanding half of this. I thought R WAS the max rating? And what does limey mean?

I might enter this, as in I'll try to, but I probably won't complete it or time, or I'll get weighed down by all the restrictions (like the whole no sex scenes thing, which totally ruins my best idea :OOO).

^ Limey means kind of smutty but not explicit. It's an offshoot of lemons, which are full-on NC-17 sex scenes.

Okie, dokie, in regards of the smut issue, here is the final verdict:

Maximum Rating: R. R is still allowed though. After all, the Horror Contest had some pretty nasty stuff kids shouldn't read as well.

Citrus Content: Like Jo-Jo said, you may go down the road of Lime but the following MUST be upheld.

1.) Not very explict (i.e. Don't you even DARE say the names of the gentalia which people use in bed. Use words like 'anatomy' instead.)

2.) Don't dwell on it, don't make your whole one-shot on it. There is more the Romance than JUST sex and lust ^^;;

3.) There is an intergral difference between Lime and Lemon. Lime is Rating R, Lemon is NC-17. Lime skips over most of the sex (i.e. Penetration and stuff happened OFF Scene), Lemon, well, likes to go on and on ^^;;, Lime isn't explict, Lemon is, Lime concentrates more on the FEELINGS of the characters, Lemon is basically porn. So now get it? So start off with steamy kissing, may be go into 'mutual agreement', molesting (characters don't even go down to the 'taking off clothes' stage), then scene change, and you could kind of tell what happened OFF scene. That, my friends is Lime.

4.) Remember, like Encyclopika said, in smutty scenes, we are judging you on more on the description of contact and the emotion felt by it. Romance isn't all porn. You may use Lime as a technique to help convey to emotion of the fic but we WILL be harsh on you if you use excess smut for no legitimate reason and the fic must only have a maximum of 65% of the actual fic are the smutty scenes. Go over and you WILL be disqualified. Sorry about the limit but I can't stress it enough, yes smut is a part of Romance but it isn't ALL about the genre. If you go over the 65%, it'll be more like a porn fic than a Romance fic and this is NOT a Lubricant and Condoms: A Porn One-Shot Contest >.<;; I'm adding this into the Rules/Guidelines.

So I hope now that you get it. Smut is allowed but ONLY Lime, not explict, skips over parts of it, and we will judge you in smut scenes how good of a ROMANCE fic it is, NOT a pornagraphy fic.

Yes... Smut CAN be good but I would get a seizure from reading for example Flannery x Typhlosion. And be put in a lunatic's assylum after reviewing a Gangbang fic between one young girl and MANY Jynx and Mr. Mime. Guys PLEASE realise we have to REVIEW these, thoroughly, hanging on every word, judging you on everything. We'll be most likely read over some fics more than TWICE. So when you write smut, please keep US in mind >.<;; . If you written it bad, be sure to know I would be gotten a cardiac arrest.

Oh and one more thing, If you do a Pokemon x Pokemon Lime AND it is badly written, I WILL jump off a cliff.

Of course romance isn't all about sex. There's probably not going to be that intense a love scene in my story. There'll be one. But, you can't really do the horizontal mamba with a pregnant woman now can ya? Still. It's gonna be romantic and there will be kissing involved. Their love scene was months ago. And look where it got 'em.

Oh come on. You can complain about the kids all day long, but the bottom line is, if they see a "Rated R" and continue, that's their fault. And what seven year old reads borderline-literature level fanfictions o.o? Why are we going to restrain ourselves for the sake of "little children" that make up such a small percentage of the forums and aren't even going to read the one-shots since the entries are private unless posted?

That's just my two cents

Of course IceKing, you're right. THAT'S why we're letting Rated R fics in. Just like the Trial of Terror and Laughingstock. No need for NC-17. We Judges aren't aiming for a bunch of NC-17 Lemons, we're looking for quality Romance material, NOT pornography. We could just buy Playboy/Playgirl for that or go onto that weird adultfanfiction site. Plus we might be severely traumatised after reading a NC-17 Jynx x Brock Lemon. I still value my sanity, you know. >.<;;

Anyway, that whole smut-Rating-issue has been dealt with now. I think a lot of Lime has MUCH better quality Romance material than Lemons in my oppinion. Like I said, we're still letting in smut, just not explict smut. After all, this is a Roses and Chocolates: A Romance One-Shot Contest, not a Lubricant and Condoms: A Porn One-Shot Contest! >.<;; Romance does not automatically equal to Lust (Sex). Similar, can be the same if written properly but different.

^^' Whoops... My mistake. I suppose we can have touching on some 'private parts', like a cheeky slap or a pinch on the buttocks... or something more than that, but like Masterwannabe said, no sex scenes. Kids are probably reading this by the way.

So like I said, SEX is allowed (Lime. Not explict) but SEX SCENES aren't (Lemons. Very Explict). There's a difference. I hope I don't have to post you some examples so you understand the difference between the two...

Definition of Lime:

A Lime is a fan fiction story that stops short of full, explicit descriptions of sexual activity. A common analogy is that it is Rating R action, as opposed the NC-17 kind of fanfiction or lemons, where limes are not quite as explicit as the lemon. Another definition is that it includes everything up to, but not including penetration, but that can be a subjective call.

Other forms of limes are those stories that approach an intimate scene, and then go "off-camera", with the intimacy left to the reader's imagination. As with the other terms of this type, the orientation of the characters involved (such as the slash yaoi and yuri pairings) are not as important as the kind of intimate activity engaged in.


Definition of Lemon:

Lemon is a term used in reference to anime and manga, especially fanfiction, to describe material with explicit sexual content, such as hentai, yaoi, and yuri.

Difference:

A main difference between a Lemon and a Lime is while a Lime may go over all parts of the sexual intercourse except the actual penetration and a few other denominations (i.e. Blow Job), making it happen off scene and leaving it to the readers' imagination, Lemons are well-known to go over ALL parts of the sexual intercourse, all the way from Foreplay to After Sex, including the penetration and its denominations (i.e. Blow Job). Lemons MUST have the penetration decribed. Also, Limes are not very explict, more known to be concentrating more on the FEELINGS and EMOTIONS of the characters during the activity while Lemons are VERY explict, concentrating more on the actual sexual activity, instead of the emotions and feelings. Limes are most commonly rated 'R' while Lemons are always rated 'NC-17'. )

So we'll allow SEX but NOT Sex SCENES. So penetration and such happens off-scene but you could tell they 'did it' in the next scene with hints and comments (i.e. In a Lime: Previous scene, all clothes off except the girl's underpants, Off-Scene Penetration, next scene, both panting, girl says 'You were fantastic, etc.' Not very explict. Two Scenes Words like 'anatomy' used)

(i.e. In a Lemon: The two scenes combined in one, goes over EVERYTHING, no Off-Scene, Penetration. VERY explict. One Scene. Words like 'pussy' used)

NOW DO YOU GET IT BY WHAT I MEAN BY 'SEX IS ALLOWED BUT NOT SEX SCENES'?!!!

I think little kids would be equally tramuatised by a Rated R fic as they would by a NC-17. On normal circumstances, I would say no even to Lime but after listening to Jo-Jo, I think she's right. Since the Trial of Terror was DOMINATED by Rated R fics that would traumatise children, why shouldn't we allow a bit of smut? OF COURSE NOT TOO MUCH, THAT'S WHY THERE'S NO NC-17; there's more to Romance than just smut. Anyway, the first place Horror Fic in the Trial of Terror (Pyrite) described a guy IMPALING himself onto a stature. And may I note, with much detail. I think that would equally traumatise a kid as a Rated R Lime would. So I'm letting Limes in.

BUT NO LEMONS!!!! (i.e. Don't you even DARE concentrate a sizable portion of the fic on the actual penetration. Then you're submitting in a Lemon!)

I mean, Pyrite by Negrek (First Prize in Trial of Terror) had girls burning themselves to death, guys tearing their necks out, men impaling themseles to death on statures, women driving stakes into themselves. That would equally tramuatise a kid. Limes cause a bit less tramua. BUT LEMONS DEFINATELY WILL CAUSE MORE!!! I mean, us Judges would be tramuatised for life after reading an explict Jessie x Seviper Lemon. (Seviper's penetration to Jessie WILL cause the most tramua. That is another good reason why we'll let in Limes but NOT Lemons; no explict penetration, most likely to happen off-scene)


So if the Horror One-Shot has the right to tramuatise kids with broken necks, impaled hearts and ripped out brains, why can't the Romance One-Shot have a bit of smut? (OF COURSE NOT OVER RATING R!!!!!!). Why would little kids be reading fanfics anyway, most are more interested in the PASBL, Face-Offs and the Games Subforums.

Well I say no to Lemons as there is more the Romance than just sex but say yes to Limes as sex is still a sizable part of Romance.

says, we need SOME smut but Romance isn't all about it. Little Kids don't even POST in this part of the Forums, they don't even ENTER this part of the Forums. The youngest here at the Fanfiction Section are probably Eleven and they know what sex is.
