Well, I don't read either Lemons or Limes, but I'm not reall against either one, so I vote "MWB". (And just so you know, my story will have a G rating, so it's suitable for kids. Just saying this in case anyone cares.)

But eleven/twelve year olds seem to be the youngest around here and obviously eleven year olds know what sex is. So Limes are okay with them as the Limes skip over the explict parts.

Well, my vote is this:

It doesn't really make a difference to me. I don't think lemons'd be a good idea. But, some writers can do it tastefully. So, my vote is if yu're gonna do it, do it tastefully. But, you don't have to do it at all. In the end, it's up to the writer.

Do love scenes if you want but you don't ned to describe every detail. I don't describe every detail like the female form for example.

Of course it can. Like I said before, the entry can also have other genres in it buy Romance has to be pretty promient. So yes to the Angst/Romance; those two go really well together too.

I'm going to stay out of the voting as well. I don't want my personal preferences to clench down upon the creative liscense of my competitors. Besides, my story falls under the "Little Kids" category.

All that this post was was a way to get my personal stance out into the public.

Granted, to go all out pornographic on this contest is wrong and takes away from the whole idea of romance (we aren't writing to get each other horny), but we should be able to post things along the lines of Limes without having to worry about it. I'd like to remind you all that nobody is forcing anybody to read anything here (unless you are obligated to, like the Judges). If a young reader is sensative to these topics and knows that he/she does not like reading such a thing, they have the ability to simply not read a story.


My vote: Limes, but no Lemons. This contest is about Romance, and it is very possible to make a story more romantic through events like this. Again, sex should only be there for reasons like character development or plot reasons, not for the sole sake of it being there.


Funny how we had a whole thread about this before, and now this thread is practically being taken over by the topic. (The Dreaded 'R'- there were some very good points in this topic...)

I mean, Pyrite by Negrek (First Prize in Trial of Terror) had girls burning themselves to death, guys tearing their necks out, men impaling themseles to death on statures, women driving stakes into themselves. That would equally tramuatise a kid.

Yes, and her fic was obviously Rated R in the first place! I'm gonna reemphasize the point both Psychic and I made: If a little kid come to this site and reads a Rated-R label fic and gets tramautized, that's his parent's fault. With all due respect, no one here should have to dumb themselves down for children that make up a very small percentage of the audience. And there is more to Negrek's winning fic than just a bunch of gore; it won because of the sheer brilliance of her writing. I pity anyone who reads stories with violence or sex going "Oh won't somebody PLEEEASE think about the children!". And the fact remains, kids most likely won't read this stuff.


My vote is gonna go for lemons, but not hardcore pornography. Sex scenes can be done beautifully, such as in the end of The God of Small Things, but commonly it can be an immature pile of crap. However, I don't want to restrict those good authors that can and want to use lemons properly.

No, you write as you please. It's a known policy in the shipping section, after my own troubles with this debate, that you may write anything you please (of the romance genre) as long as you do it tastefully and give a warning. I don't think limiting your ability in a contest when a younger viewer could easily turn the other cheek is a good idea as a judge. So I say, do whatever you want, but remember: if you're not good on the subject, don't risk your chances for a higher grade. Sex is an EXTREMELY difficult thing to write tastefully, along with rape. You're better off not including anything of sort because you don't know what the judges (except me for obvious reasons) think a sex scene should be handled. It's very precise.
So my vote goes on half-half. I don't really care what you throw at me. =P Of course, as the youngest judge and the one who started this contest, masterwannabe should have the heaviest vote here.

You don't offend me. I stand by my verdict; Limes should be allowed as smut, if used properly can be a great character tool, but no Lemons as we are concentrating more on the Romance side of things, not writing smut for the sake of it. Besides, the youngest readers/reviewers/authors I know who write fanfics are Timid Kyogre, Shadowcat and myself, all twelve. And in Year/Grade Six, most people know what sex is and some countries even do that 'sexual education teaching program'. So all of guys are thinking about seven year olds; I have NEVER heard of seven year old reviewers/readers.

Remember, smut can be a great literary tool but Romance isn't all smut. I'm just doing this voting thing so we can actually get over this issue and go on with life. You don't have to vote but I suggest you do if you want your oppinion about the issue known. Geez, why didn't this Rating R issue come up at the other Contests; this is making my job harder.

Personally, I don't believe you need to even hint at sex or anything like it to have a wonderful romance one-shot. In my personal opinion, every story/one-shot that I've read that had romance in would be just as good whether or not they had lime/lemon romance scenes. >.>

Good heck, you can communicate it just as well by a kiss, or not even that. There are many ways to show that people love one another, and not all those scenes start with 's'. *sighs*

Some people use Limes and Lemons as a literary technique. Personally I dislike using them as I reckon there are much better ways for character development without the use of smut but some people use them to their advantadge. Everyone's oppinion's counts. To see which is the majority, a poll like this is needed.
