God of Monsters
There is a dark storm overhead. There is rain. Thick, heavy drops fall over you. You're soaked to the skin. It seems too cold to be just rain. And yet, it is. The wind whips through you, sending a chill down your spine. It's cold. And something seems...off. The clouds billow together, circling overhead, almost exactly overhead.

"CAW!"

There's a screech above you, and a flutter of wings flashes overhead. A jet black bird swoops down and lands on the low-hanging branches of a nearby tree. In its beak is a plain black envelope. The thought of questioning how it managed to caw with something in its mouth doesn't occur to you.

"CAW!"

There's suddenly another huge gust of wind, and you shut your eyes against it. Something smacks you in the face and drops into your hands. When you open your eyes, you see that it's the black envelope the bird was carrying. You look around, but the bird is gone.

Stuffing the envelope into your pocket, you hurry home and shut the door behind you. Once inside you inspect it; printed in slim, silver letters is a name...not your actual name, but the User name you have at a popular online forum. You take the envelope and sit at a table. Gently prying it open, you take out a folded piece of paper and a shiny black card. As would anyone in these circumstances, you look at the card first.

It makes no sense, not really, since you're no expert in what appears to be ancient Nordic runes, so you instead turn to the written letter that accompanied it.

Dear member,

We are proud to bring you the RPG Forum Winter Ball 2012.

This year, the ball is open to anyone and everything from the RPG Forums. You may attend it as yourself, or you may choose to attend as one of your own characters, from any RPG you have participated in, from any time period. We hold no rules over the size, shape or species of those who attend, so be you human or pokemon, machine or beast, you are all welcome.

As the Ball takes place in the last quarter of the year, we begin the celebration during the Halloween Season. Fancy Dress is more than welcome, so be as wild as you like in your costumes, and we as hosts will ensure that everything is equally as costumed at our end. When Halloween is over, we will move closer to Christmas, where you will have a chance to change your fancy dress into something a little more festive, and enjoy the delights that Christmas has to hold.

Attendance is simple. You will find printed in this thread, your ticket. Your user name is imprinted on the reverse, so it cannot be used by anyone else to gain access to the grounds at which the ball takes place. In order for us to properly prepare for your arrival, please fill out the attached RSVP, and post it in the RPG Forums Sign Up Thread that has been started specifically for this event.

We look forward to seeing you,

Monster Guy

Fairy type Trainer
Name: Leonardo "Leo" Silverstone
Age: 18
Gender: Male

Appearance: Leo stands at exactly six feet tall, and while he does not have bodybuilder proportions, he is physically fit, and he has a toned athletic build due to working out regularly. He spends a good amount of time outdoors, and he lives somewhere tropical, so his skin is lightly tanned. Not bronze, but not pale white either. He has short, close cropped black hair, with messy bangs that go to his eyebrows. One strand of hair on top of his head always stands up, no matter how much he tries to comb it down. His face is round, and rather boyish. Marked by large expressive, electric blue eyes. These features give him a youthful appearance. Except for the top of his head and eyebrows, the rest of his upper body is void of any hair. (As in, no chest hair, no armpit hair, and he can't grow any facial hair.)

For clothing, Leo's outfits tend to vary, and he usually just wears whatever he feels comfortable in, or pulls out of his closet first. It usually includes a pair of jeans or cargo shorts, and sneakers or sandals. He can often be found without a shirt. He was rather scrawny when he was younger, so now that he's put on some muscle, he's quite proud of himself, and he likes to show off the results. When he must wear a shirt, it will usually be a skintight tank top, or something low cut/not buttoned/zipped up all the way without a shirt underneath, that shows off his chest. He's not comfortable wearing cloaks or any type of heavy clothing that cover him up too much. He doesn't mind dressing up for formal occasions, but usually takes the outfit right off as soon as he's able.

Personality: Leo is a bright cheerful person, with an optimistic view of life. He can often be seen with a smile on his face, even when things look bleak. He believes there's is some good in everyone, and for that, he is very trusting of others. A genuine nice guy, he is always willing to help someone in need, often putting the needs of others before his own. Sometimes though, he can be too nice, to the point of gullibility, and he is often easily taken advantage of because of it. Leo is outgoing and social. He likes meeting new people, and making new friends. He is not afraid to strike up a conversation with a random stranger. He is loyal, empathetic, and protective of those he cares about, making him a good friend to have.

Leo is very energetic. So much so, that it is very difficult for him to sit still and focus on one thing at a time for long periods of time. Although he is able to think quick on his feet during intense situations, he acts impulsively, and has a habit of jumping to conclusions without thinking. Due to his cheerful nature, it is very difficult to anger him. However, when pushed too far, then he can be quite dangerous. That said, Leo isn't one to hold grudges, and is usually very quick to forgive those who have wronged him. Leo has an affinity for things he considers "cute", and he is not ashamed about it at all.

History: Leo is a world hopper. he has traveled to many different worlds, has accomplished many things, and made a few friends and enemies along the way. While visiting a world, some things in his life change, but there are certain details that remain consistent. Leo is the oldest of three siblings, and the only male among the three. His parents' relationship became strained after his father, Lorenzo, lost his job shortly after the youngest daughter was born, and the family started experiencing financial troubles. It was not helped by Lorenzo turning to Wine to drown his sorrows, which worried the rest of the family. Lorenzo and his wife, Layla, often argued loudly during the night. While things never escalated to physical violence, but the yelling still made the three kids uncomfortable. Despite the drama, Leo tried to put on a brave face, and hoped things would work out in the end. They almost did too... Eventually, Layla got a promotion at her job that made up for the loss of income, but by then, the damage was done, and Lorenzo filed for divorce.

Leo currently lives with his mom, and his younger sisters Lilly and Lucy. He is much closer to his mother than with his father. They were not wealthy, but they weren't poor either. Being a single parent, Layla often had to work long hours, leaving Leo responsible for looking after his sisters, and taking care of household things while she worked. Unlike a lot of other boys though, Leo didn't really mind this, and actually enjoyed doing it. As a result of this, he became accustomed to taking care of people. He also learned a lot of domestic skills, and became very good at cooking.

He was a rather scrawny child, and he was often picked on by bullies who thought he was weaker than them. It did not help that he was a sensitive kid, and he had a taste for things that are usually considered girly by others. He would come home with bruises on a regular basis. His father did not help matters by suggesting that living in a house full of girls was turning him into one. While all the bullying upset him, he kept up a cheerful demeanor in front of others, not wanting to burden others with his problems, and if he thinks positively, things will get better.

Around the time Leo entered puberty, things started to change. Deciding that he no longer wanted to be a wimp, and a constant bullying victim, he started working out and getting into Sports, which resulted in him putting on a little muscle, and making new friends. Due to his social personality, he quickly became quite popular on campus, particularly with other girls. He also maintained good grades. Things were actually starting to look up. Despite how well things were going, he didn't let it get to his head. He still remained the same sensitive kid he always was on the inside.

There are usually variations to this story, depending on the setting. When visiting a world, he has no memory of any other worlds he's been in prior. This ball is the rare exception to the rule.

Costume: Leo will be dressed as a wizard. He will wear a red mage robe, the hem of which reaches to his knees, and the sleeves have clearly been cut off. There are golden sun symbols sewn on the left and right breast area, as well as on the back. He also leaves the robe open, so his bare chest is visible. He wears a pair of baggy, ankle length, red silk pants, with a gold sash tied around the waist to keep them up. On his feet, he wears a pair of flip flop sandals. On top of his head, he wears a red wizards cap that has the tip wilting a bit. He also carries a red metal rod, with a golden translucent glass orb in the shape of the sun, to complete the wizardy look.

Pokemon

As Leo has been a Pokemon trainer in some worlds, he will be accompanied by two of his Pokemon.

Name: Shawn
Species: Musharna
Gender: Male
Personality: Shawn's been Leo's friend and partner since the beginning. He's a lot like his trainer in a lot of ways. They both have the same cheerful nature, both can be rash and impulsive, and they're both a bit hyperactive. Leo views Shawn like the brother he never had. Shawn is very affectionte towards his trainer, and other humans. He has an appetite for sweet dreams, and he has a habit of munching on the dreams of those sleeping nearby.

Name: Lucky
Species: Togekiss
Gender: Male
Personality: Lucky lives up to being Togekiss species as the Jubilee Pokemon. He is a friendly caring Pokemon, if a little hyperactive. He loves large gatherings of people and Pokemon, and enjoys having fun. he often tries to make himself the center of attention whenever possible. He generally tends to avoid aconflicts, however he can be a very powerful fighter when he needs to be. He was named Lucky, becuase he tends to win most of battles through good luck on his part. (Usually involving the secondary effect of an attack working because of Serene Grace.)

Solar Panels
Name: Jonathan 'Jon' Smith

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Description: Having reached his full height, Jon stands at about 1.85 metres, slightly taller than the average teen his age. He is of a medium build, neither really bulky or thin. His hair is incredibly messy, having never seen a comb in it's entire lifetime, and hangs down, covering his forehead. It is a rather light shade of brown, which is sometimes mistaken to be a blond colour. He has amber coloured eyes, which come from his father's side of the family.

He usually wears a black suit with a notched collar over a white shirt with a black tie and dark brown trousers. This consists as his formal wear, but because of the 'comfortableness', Jon wears it basically all the time. When he does wear more informal clothing, he merely removes the tie and suit, replacing them with a grey wind-breaker. Strangely, when wearing both his informal and formal clothing, he wears white runners.

Personality: Jon is incredibly passionate about his ideals, a trait which most people use to describe his personality. He believes in standing up for oneself and attempting to go beyond the impossible no matter what anybody says, which is the source of his incredible determination and stubbornness, which is why nobody managed to stop him from wearing his suit. However, despite this, he has more common sense than most people, and due to more control over his emotions is less likely to make reckless and impulsive decisions. He is also a kind and understanding character, but can be quick to anger if one pushes the wrong buttons.

Costume: Having lost a bet to a friend recently, Jon has been forced into what could be described as a terrible and cheap looking costume that appears to be a strange and ridiculous hybrid between Zekrom and Zapdos, a rather fitting combination for him, seeing that his other incarnations were rather attuned to said Legendaries. The costume seems to possess the torso, arms and legs of Zekrom, but its head is definitely Zapdos', as well as the wings. There is no tail for the costume, and it is coloured a garish grey. There is a hole in the upper torso of the costume, where Jon's face can be seen.

Power(s): Due to some of his incarnations having powers, Jon has the ability of being a furnace of energy, his body serving as a near limitless generator of electricity, turning him into a human power plant. He is also capable of powering electrical devices, and is somewhat capable of manipulating electricity to a degree, however, this takes concentration and effort, which tires him out rather easily.

Other: Tagging along with Jon is his Rotom, Bob, who travels around in his cellphone.

God of Monsters
Name: Lance Donovan, Lance of Goldnight, Herald of War, Fist of Avacyn, Stranger
Gender: Male
Age: Between 29 and 100, depending on who's asking.

Description: As a quantum anomaly, Lance exists in several states at several different times. He inhabits several different multiverses simultaneously, most notably those in which he is a pilot of the advanced Armored Core war machine known as the White Glint and the one in which he is an extremely powerful being known as a planeswalker. The Winter Ball, taking place in the Omniversal Nexas (belonging to no single Multiverse and yet encompassing all of them), allows his several iterations to inhabit the same existence simultaneously and as such, his appearance and history merges the two accordingly.

Lance is rather tall, standing over six and-a-half feet. He's well built, with broad shoulders and well-defined muscles. Like most angels of Innistrad, his body is powerful but lean, emphasizing muscle tone over muscle size, with his superhuman strength negating the need for huge muscles. Indeed, Lance's body looks and feels almost like it was chiseled out of stone or forged from steel. His combined angelic/vampiric nature means that his body is more resilient, and more resistant to injury and fatigue than a human of similar size and build. Lance also has a great pair of angelic wings that he's learned to withdraw into his body and make less conspicuous. His wings, once pure, glowing, ethereal white, have been diminished by his hybrid nature, and a tinge of blood-red highlights color the edges of his wings.

Lance's facial features are strong and defined; he owes his good looks to both his vampire-angel hybrid nature, both of which are renowned for their aesthetic appeal. Since becoming a vampire, however, his features have sharpened and taken on a more predatory glean. He has dark brown hair that reaches just past his shoulders, and dark brown eyes that have been described as "soul melting" (oh, if they only knew!) His long vampiric canine teeth are usually easy to hide and conceal, and appear normal unless Lance loses control.

He's well built, from years of demanding physical labor and a disciplined training regimen, but carries many various-sized scars from combat and training injuries. The smaller and older scars, however, are barely visible--due it part to size and fading over time--but also because of Lance's well-tanned skin.

When Lance loses control or allows himself to change, his vampiric nature manifests different physical characteristics. First and foremost, his hair changes color, turning a blinding platinum, white-gold color. His eyes turn entirely black, while his irises glow a hellish fiery orange-red. His canine teeth on his upper and lower jaw elongate into fangs, and he is able to elongate his fingernails into razor-sharp claws. Most stunningly, however, is the change to his wings. While they might otherwise be white, his transformed nature turns his feathers black (though they still keep the blood-red highlights).

During his off-duty time, Lance's wardrobe is rather relaxed; he takes to wearing simple, tight-fitting t-shirts or plain-colored long-sleeved shirts that hint at his impressive physique. His usual attire also consists of a pair of black pants or faded, torn, blue-jeans and a pair of black or brown combat boots. He also has a well-worn brown leather jacket. He does, however, also own a rather well-stocked supply of fancier clothes for gala events he's required to attend.

When piloting his Armored Core, Lance wears a standard Irregular's form-fitting flight-suit. Like all Irregular suits, there are specially designed exo-neurotransmitters placed throughout it, which then connect to the AC's Allegorical Manipulation System. Lance's suit is mostly white with some yellow-gold trim. The sleeves and most of the torso are black, while its shoulders and protruding collar are white. He also wears a pair of white gloves. Like all suits, it also contains padded sections to protect his shoulders, arms, chest, and legs from getting battered during high-speed combat.

As a Planeswalker, Lance abandoned the garments he wore during his service the typical white-and-black-robes-and-leather under armor look that all angels of the Church of Avacyn wear. He has kept the basic black leather, with its high gold-trimmed collared shirt, and the flexible armor chest-plate, but his abandoned the white robes for a black, armor-reinforced, leather trench-coat, with metal plating on the shoulders and forearms. Slits in the lower half of the coat are there to not hinder his flexibility, while two slits in the back are placed specifically for his wings to emerge from. He wears a pair of leather sword-belts on his waist and always carries a Mask of Avacyn with him, though he rarely (if ever) wears it.

Personality: Lance is cunning, calculating, and deadly. His devotion to an ideal has become devotion to himself, and he often exemplifies the self-indulgent nature of vampirism. He's self-serving and selfish. He has dedicated his existence to following his whims, and this easy life of pleasure has brought him detachment and easy confidence. He has become a sort of bon vivant, seeking novelty and new diversions. But despite his fundamentally hedonistic nature, Lance does feel the pull of more lasting concerns, and over his long life this tendency has resulted in an arcane schedule of engagements and forays to far-flung planes. As a result Lance is a busy man, planeswalking frequently to pursue concerns known only to him. Lance always seems to have business elsewhere.

He's become a charmer and a smooth-talker in this time, he has a vicious way with words and a critical eye that combine to make him extremely competent at picking someone apart and deducing what makes them tick. His ability to analyze and dissect people and situations mentally, combined with his physical nature and sangromancy has made him an incredibly deadly individual.

Lance relates to others as his playthings, as he's found few beings capable or worthy of gaining his respect. He's found immense pleasure in traveling the multiverse. Essentially, he's a narcissist, with an "I come first" sort of attitude. This is most apparent in his pursuit of women. He's the ultimate lady-killer and seducer, using his good looks, charisma, and powers to charm and steal (and subsequently break) the hearts of women everywhere. He's a connoisseur of the one-night-stand and is prone to seducing women of nobility, "just for the challenge." But Lance's eye isn't for power; he appreciates beauty no matter what social class it's found in. Unfortunately for those women, he often leaves them in rather deplorable states...if they're lucky.

Upon going into battle, however, Lance changes completely. He becomes like a machine, unceasing, unflinching, and his unrelenting drive to kill. He is no longer either stoic or laid-back, but determined and focused. He becomes something else entirely, and it is in this "dark other" that his separation from humanity becomes most evident. In the blink of an eye Lance can turn from womanizer to a serious, hyper-lethal warrior. Lance becomes vicious, ferociously efficient and brutal. He shows no remorse or hesitation and has no pity for weakness and stupidity. In this mindset, it's clear that he's no longer an angel, that he is indeed something terrifying, and it takes him some time to pull himself back from this state of hyper-awareness and hyper-lethality once his hunger is sated.

"Hyper-lethal" is the most appropriate way of describing Lance. His true nature is that of a killer: he combines the worst and most deadly aspects of an angel's unflinching determination with a vampire's sadism and hedonism. Within him lurks his "Dark Passenger," a pseudo-aware aspect of his personality that resulted from the mix of powers, energies, and magic that came with his fall and the subsequent ignition of his Planeswalkers spark. The Passenger drives him to fulfill the Hunger and the Need, the primal urges of his hybrid nature.

His narcissistic attitude and playboy lifestyle seem rather contrary to the attitude needed to be a warrior and pilot of supreme ability and quality, until one realizes that it's just a cover and a way for Lance to distract and distance himself from his killer nature. In the blink of an eye Lance can turn from womanizer to a serious, hyper-lethal warrior. In battle he's absolutely ruthless and unforgiving, dispatching enemies with a quick stroke of his weapons. He isn't cruel or sadistic, but he shows no remorse or hesitation and has no pity for weakness and stupidity. Lance refers to this side of his personality as his "dark passenger."

It's likely that Lance developed his public playboy persona as a way to mask his "dark passenger" from both the world and himself. He fears his darkness and worries that it will overtake him and turn him into a monster. So he carries himself with a sort of cool, laid-back, nonchalant attitude and engages in and meaningless romantic trysts, hoping that it will stave off his dark passenger and ignite a better part of him. He's had little luck, however, and his continued use of his "mask" has only served to make him more aware of how deep his darkness goes. He's perfectly willing to follow the rhetoric of fighting for "love and glory" but inside he feels nothing. Many of his relationships remain superficial because he finds it hard to connect with other people beyond that superficial level. Even so, Lance has a deeply-rooted sense of loyalty to those he's come to trust and care for, though they're few and far between. In fact, he feels closer to his Armored Core than he does with most people, and claims that it actually understands him. Lance's operator is one of the few who he has a genuine connection with.

Costume: Lance will attend the ball in a combination of his Armored Core pilot suit and his choice armor and cloak from Innistrad. The first layer is his standard Irregular's form-fitting flight-suit. On top of that he wears a flexible armor chest-plate, and a black, armor-reinforced, leather trench-coat, with metal plating on the shoulders and forearms. Slits in the lower half of the coat are there to not hinder his flexibility, while two slits in the back are placed specifically for his wings to emerge from. He wears a pair of leather sword-belts on his waist and always carries a Mask of Avacyn with him, though he rarely (if ever) wears it.

Abilities: Like all angels, Lance is adept in white magic, especially with regards to battling evil. Spells of banishing, cleansing light, and devastating waves of purifying energy. Upon receiving the vampiric curse, however, Lance was able to harness red and black magic as well, the colors of Innistrad's elder vampires. Aside from access to the standard spells of fire and lightning typical of a red mage, he also manifested a rare and powerful type of black magic. Sangromancy, the magic of blood, a dark corner of black mana specialization. With this blood magic he can drain the lifeforce of other beings, place curses on enemies, and even possess the minds and bodies of others. One of his favorite methods of attack, however, is to create a "blood shadow", a deep-red shadow that forms around him, and with it, tear his enemies to pieces.

Psychic Power
: the edges and specifications of Lance's psychic power are poorly defined. It's difficult to define as it's a rather low-grade ability, possibly an effect or extension of his Dark Passenger's existence within him. It can best be described as "Alpha-Presence" or "Dominance", where he can disrupt or withstand the abilities of other Irregulars when they are directed at him, and dominate the wills of other people. Lance can control the level of his "presence", either heightening it or making it appear demure. This way he can draw attention to himself or divert attention from himself in a crowd of people, using it to charm, disarm, or intimidate. Because this "ability" is so closely related to the work he did as a covert operative, it is difficult to determine whether or not it is a true ability, an adaptation of his ability, an effect of the Passenger, or just his skill as a spy. Regardless, to those (Irregulars) more insightful into the minds and intents of people, Lance must work much harder to deceive and charm them. Conversely, however, those with a greater insight can be suddenly overwhelmed if they peer too deeply or if Lance subjects them to the full force of the Passenger's presence.

Equipment: The Black Blade - A greatsword that once belonged to the ancient Planeswalker Dakkon. After each heating of the weapon during its creation, Dakkon plunged it into a powerful slave to steal his or her life-force. The sword was a soul-drinker, a blade capable of stealing the energy of those it killed. The long-since deceased Planeswalker had abandoned his fabled weapons in the wastes of Dominaria, and Lance found himself drawn to the blade from across the multiverse. The blade called out to him and his Passenger, and he claimed it as his own.
Elbrus, the Binding Blade - The dagger used to slay and bind the demon Withengar. It still carries the demon's spirit and essence, which was one of the contributing forces that combined and resulted in the ignition of Lance's Planeswalker spark.
Mask of Avacyn & Silver-Inlaid Dagger - Two pieces of equipment given to all angels and soldiers of the Avacynian Church, though Lance rarely (if ever) uses them anymore. The mask is a tool of defense, protecting its bearer against dark forces. The dagger is a weapon especially effective against werewolves, vampires, and other monsters.

Other: Lance is a superb fighter and warrior, possessing a rating with every weapon that fires a bullet or holds an edge. He is also one of the very few individuals documented as "hyper-lethal," a designation given to those with the skills and mental fortitude to overcome massive enemy numbers and impossible situations. His "Dark Passenger" is a contributing factor though, as his emotional detachment allows him to act on pure logic and instinct, drawing out the limits of his mental and physical ability, which is considerable.

Xander Kaiser

Any cookies up here?
Name: Xander, Servant of the Manuscript

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Description: Xander, taking apart in his first Serebii Winter Ball, decided to see what all the excitement was for himself, rather than sending off one of his OCs. He is an African American, standing at 6'. A bit on the lanky side, with the faintest of muscles. He has straightened his normally black curly hair, which no droops to his shoulders. Perfect for head banging. His eyes are hazel, covered behind thin square glasses, exposed as he bears no bangs.

Personality: Xander views himself as a creative person, often deep in thought scheming up stories, characters, strategies, theories, the works. As long as it’s not academic. But this tends to lead into overthinking plans, becoming paranoid that his ideas are not truly original. Nonetheless, he strives to become the best, be it whatever it is. He occasional acts “like a sir,” when the mood strikes. He likes to hear drama, as pointless as it is, and may even step in to put in his two cents, whether wanted or not. He's a bit of a pervert, never denying it, but has limits, and common sense. He’s not of restrictions, unless it gives him a challenge. In the times he runs out of ideas, unfortunately, this happens more then he'd like, he acts on impulse and random, spouting gibberish and the nonsensical. He isn't above resorting to tricks, but knows when the time for honor is at hand.

Costume: For the ball, Xander has gone for the Red Mage look, with a few personal touches. Donning a green and black leather warlock tabard, he wears it under an extravagant cape, complete with white trim. The bottom half includes gray trousers with many pockets, and dark brown belt buckle boots. Instead of a traditional musketeer hat Red Mages wear, Xander bears a fancy black top hat with an emerald green feather. He also trades in his glasses for a fake monocle over the right eye and contacts.

Abilities: Keeping in the style of the Red Mage, Xander has limited his magic abilities up level four black and white magic similar to Final Fantasy III. This includes mild expertise in fire, ice, lightening, and a few healing spells.
