They’ve had prior regions with a single type specialist missing, no? No reason it couldn’t happen again.

It’s certainly interesting to see how the prevalence of different types has changed over time. Ghost in particular has gone from obnoxiously rare (to the point of the one Kanto Ghost-type expert really being more of a Poison-type expert) to very common, which I’m pretty happy about since I’m realizing it’s probably my favorite type.

I also think the lack of a notable type specialist in a region can make it interesting and fun to do a monotype challenge run with that type - you as the player get to fill that gap! That’s my favorite way to replay Kalos, a Ghost-type team since that’s one of the missing types.
I love that ghosts and every type basically has become less rare. They basically went from ghosts are super rare phenomenon to eeeh well we all have our ghosts

Generation 4 was how I got into Pokémon
I mean really Team Star? Is that the best they can do? Come on Team Skull from Sun/Moon was better.

interesting that the E4 repeats all the titan pokemons types except for rock. Now I want Geeta to be a rock specialist (unless we know for sure what she is already)
Her type specialty (if she has one) is unknown, but it is confirmed that she is the Champion of these games.

They said she is the strongest among the champions
They didn’t say she is the sole champion of the region, like the perfect Diantha for example..
Strongest among region champions != region champion

Are there any story spoilers in here beside the typings of major battles? I don't mind seeing those, avoiding most of this stuff just curious since we basically have every type covered except Rock. Oh maybe the Team Star boss has Rock type specialty? I don't think Penny is the boss I think she is more akin to what Gladion was an important character, but not necessarily high ranking in the group.

Being referred to as the strongest champion makes it relatively clear that she’ll fill the traditional “regional champion” slot of having the climactic final trainer battle before the credits roll, IMO. She’d be similar to Kukui in that regard; there may not be a single, central Champion in this region based on what we currently know, but there’s definitely a trainer battle that feels exactly the same as the Champion battle.

Now I just hope that she’s harder to beat than Leon, Hau, and Diantha and that she has better characterization than Leon. The last challenging Champion battles were Kukui and Cynthia.

Found Leon to be quite challenging during the first play through to be honest. Aegislash and Haxorus weren’t Pokémon that I expected, and G-Max Charizard having so many coverage moves got me the first time, as this wasn’t something that I’d expect from the main story boss.

Do we know what the full typing for the boss crane Pokemon is yet?

Given the low amount of new ground types this gen I wonder if it could be a Flying/Ground type?

I think it comes down to team balance. I can respect your experience with finding him tougher; in mine, unfortunately, I’d picked up a Dragapult just a bit before the battle as it’s my favorite from the generation, and it just ended up sweeping his entire team with the help of a Water-type move for Charizard. I remember preparing for the battle because I’d heard it was hard, being surprised that I was underleveled for it… then just burning right through his team anyway. I’m hopeful that Geeta’s team, should she fill that final battle role, is highly type-diversified with lots of coverage, so that virtually any player who isn’t specifically prepared for her might find her to be a worthy challenge. One of Leon’s failings, actually, is that he isn’t particularly high on the list of tough trainers when it comes to the number of types he uses on his teams. In terms of base stats I think he’s actually third only to Iris’s rematches in B2W2 and Lance (due to the whole “three Dragonites!” thing), but his type counts range from 7 to 8, which is just okay. I’ve been working on gathering data on all the tough trainers in the games to quantify their relative challenge level (using analysis and formulas that are probably less than perfectly objective), and the I can give Leon some praise in that he’s much closer to trainers like Cynthia and Red than I expected.

That’s fair enough. I really want more diverse teams from NPC’s too, similar to how Raihan, Volkner or Flint’s teams were. The new mechanic is definitely a good first step into this direction.

I’m trying not to get too excited over it, just to save myself from possible disappointment, but I think that Terastal has the potential to radically change the calculus for high-end in-game battles with surprise type fakeouts and twists. We didn’t get any real, 6v6 Champion rematch in Galar like we do in BDSP, but I really hope we get it now. Seeing the trainer with a Sudowoodo in the Grass gym already says a lot about where it could go as a mechanic.

Well I guess there are a few options for a Rock type specialist. It could be:

Arven
One of the champion rank trainers
Geeta
Team Star Boss

Geeta has a few gold on her design and gold elements to link to rocks for example, nuggets and deposits

You know, with Klawf revealed I realized something.

Khu entire thing for Klawf is that it looked like a gen 1 water type Pokemon, which must be Krabby.

Well, the two are still quite different.

I believe this is further proof that regional fakes will differ just as much from their supposed gen 1 counterparts.

Regional fakes aren't a thing. I recall Khu mentioning Krabby, but this is just further more evidence that regional fakes are not a thing. Klawf is its own Pokemon with no relation to Krabby.

I believe it's true for the diglett eel, since the pokedex entry states that it ressembles a digglet

The jellyfish one I'm sure will not look so much like tentacruel

I bet the term rfake was never supposed to be taken like it was, it got out of control at some point
