I personally like the way they rendered the likeness of the human 2D designs in the overworld models better in SWSH.

Your profile picture made me start pondering on the idea that Toxtricity (particularly its amped form) might be related to Miraidon.
I mean, Diancie is a mutated Carbink

Absolutely Absol

It's just Absol...
Huh, I don't see character models as realistic. It's more like Studio Ghibli style whose eye design is smaller and round even in child characters. Compared to original Pokémon human designs, their eye designs are more like oval and narrow iris/pupil. Also, large in younger characters.

To me they look like clay dolls more than anything. And the vibe they give me is more European animation as opposed to the classic anime style of Pokemon or even the more American cartoon style of Galar.

Yeah that's exactly what they reminded me of as well since they were revealed; a studio Ghibli style.

It's definitely more subdued than the style of the human characters in the older games, especially SwSh, but that's nirlt necessarily a bad thing (especially considering some of the...stranger...designs we had in SwSh, like Milo, the police man trainer class and Swordward/Shielbert)
At first I was worried the characters might end up looking too similar, but the last Trailer really showed off the wide, distinctive range they have.

Yeah the Sword and Shield Police officer was a bit weird. Seems like they will be a bit more toned down.

He sort of looked like a bizarre clown. Almost like a Mr Mime but less clown like but more cartoony somehow? I mean how is that face supposed to make people comfortable asking him for help?

Yeah exactly. Though as a deterrent to crime it might be very effective. Imagine seeing that chasing after you.

My best guess is that they wanted to make the police officer look as non-threatening as possible, and accidentality ended up making him looking creepy as all hell.

Yeah. You're probably right. Mistakes were clearly made.

Or not make him smile that way. That’s what disturbed me the most.

The big, extremely wide open, staring eyes didn't help.

Particularly since there was something about, I think the colour or stylization that made them look like blank doll eyes, especially since he didn't have any pupils, just empty irises. (his eyes look like the ones on the mask of that Pokeball guy!).

In general the whole cop looks like a puppet rather than a person, which wasn't the case with the rest of the trainer classes in SwSh, making him even weirder.
